Lower the expectations

For those of you expecting 2 glorious weeks of creative genius, I say lower those expectations........and then maybe lower them again.

The mojo / muse whatever has definitely left the building.
In the past these creative down times used to stress me out unbearably, now, while I still rant and rave against them I am beginning to understand that it just happens and maybe I just need to shift focus for a bit
So yesterday while I tried not to stress about the softie that is just not working
I made some potholders ! The blue and orange ones are for use (made with the tinnie fabric) and the kitcheny ones will go in the "gift box'.

I made five little coin purses from the best coin purse pattern in the world These little guys just need to have their frames added today. I love this pattern of Nikki's and have made heaps of these purses. They are one of my go-to patterns for a quick little gift. These will go into the gift-box as well.

I chilled - totally. Even though I have already read issue 9, yesterday I read it again at the computer and followed all the links and checked out all the blogs. I added more blogs to my reader and popped a few more into the blog roll over on the side. It is a crazy kind of cool to read a magazine that feels like it has been written just for you, with stories that really interest you and articles about people you know, or blog-know. (and yes I am in there as well)

I fiddled a bit on the softie front -

I have no idea who this guy is or where he came from......

I think he needs antlers

  3. I think he is so cute but I think he looks more like Roo from Winnie the Pooh!

  4. My 3.5yr old says it looks like a kangaroo.... no a rabbit. Couple of options there. I can see the antlers working too.
T'will be interesting to see this one develop. I can see how he has developed on from the mice...

  7. I'm with you Jodie, taking time out is so important and having to high of an expectation can be terrible for a person. You can't be perfect all of the time!! You can always be wonderful but noone is perfect.

  8. Sorry to her the mojo is also holidaying! As for the softie - I think he needs to bounce around with a pouch! I think I'd like to see the contents of your gifting box if these offerings are a glimpse. Enjoy your holidays!

  9. Oh, looking at your softie out of the corner of my eye makes me think of meerkats propped up and looking around!

  13. you look like you still have your mo jo. If you really can't find it, it might be with all the stuff on my computer that has crashed and burned!!

  14. I think I should follow your lead and start up a gift box so I have things pre-made and ready to go for gift emergencies!
    Have fun chillin'

  16. My real job is feeling a bit like that at the moment ... lots of goodness there though Jodie!

My word verification it tricrac - how freaky!

  17. Mojo, earthmother, housewiff, career...all of it AWOL-ed this building. Just assembled the tribe and tendered my resignation...But the currently antler-less softie on a stick has lifted the spirits.

  18. well it could turn into a kangaroo or maybe it could get a snout and turn into a pig.........

  19. I think everything needs antlers.
Or maybe I should just go back to bed and stop hallucinating. ^_^

  20. Love the pot holders. I think it needs antlers too.

  21. Looks like Kanga, Roo's mum to me. But antlers could be interesting... in selvedge of course... with a lion's body and a fish-tail?! Then it could be the famous and mysterious Ric-rac beastie.

  22. Sometimes our brains just need a little rest , mine seems to think it's January most of the time .

  23. Oh honestly Jodie! You are a silly-billy sometimes! Kangaroos don't have antlers! Duh!

Looks like you have been incredibly busy in your non-crafty mojo mode!

  24. I've been doing some pot holders myself... they are too much fun and no pressure.
She does need antlers, and eyelashes!
I recently saw three of her distant cousins in the woods around here...

  25. IT'S A NUMBAT!!!!!

Oops...sorry to shout but I just checked Minx's 'The Fabulous Memory Game for Aussie Kids' that Auntie Sharon sent from Melbourne and it's most definately a numbat!

See what you mean about the lack of mojo...cos, like those gorgeous potholders and purses are soooooo unmojo-ey ;)

    Norman.

    Norman the numbat.

    Going now....

  26. oh I seriously can relate to your missing muse, and I agree that the best way to handle it is to shift focus for a while!!!

  27. I thought you were making a kangaroo...hmmm, will have to wait and see how he turns out!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Now he is cute - I am thinking red nose - but then I do have christmas on my mind today. Think that I am going to take a leaf out of your book and sit back and relax a bit and not to stress.

  29. Mojo is overrated.

I'm just cross because with all of this beautifully rainy quilting weather, I have to take my machine to be fixed. What a waste of perfectly good holidays!
    (I'll have to knit instead...)

  30. He looks like a kangaroo to me.

I love that your day off with no mojo still results in four potholders, five coin purses and some fiddling with a softie. Your baseline mojo is higher than most people's max. :)

  31. Mojo is seriously over rated. Who needs it when chilling out is soooo much more fun. Especially when you have a great mag to read. Enjoy the holidays and relax.

  32. I think antlers are positively what he needs. Look at the look on his face. It is totally a "where are my antlers" look!

    :)

PS. I love my mixtape zines too and do the same thing!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Love the potholders. They look gorgeous.

You know it would probably take me 3 years to sew all those items!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's left the building here too Jodie!

    ReplyDelete
  35. when i first saw him i thought of a "different" but good pig like in the Olivia books...
we have 2 of these books and they are just wonderful...
but i do like the other comments to...maybe the kangaroo...or bilby

  36. You're not doing too badly for a mojo-less crafty chick! I'd be proud of that output (I've done NOTHING!!).

I thought the softie might have been heading towards meerkat....? Or is that just wishful thinking?

Love the purses in WOOL.... why have I never tried that?

Gosh... lots of questions today. Ignore them - I'm just talking to myself.

  37. Your lowered expectations are some people's HIGH expectations. YOu do good work Jodie. No matter what it is.

  38. I love the look on its face.. it cracks me up!

He looks surprised at something that's for sure..
