I know its impossible to show in pics how truely amazing the dress really is. Its stunning Jodie, and Jemma looks great! Congratulations on the big project reveal! xx
It is absolutey incredible. I never imagined the big project was something to wear. I was thinking of a slip cover or something. Ok, that's a lie. I only just thought of the slip cover idea but still i didn't expect a dress.
Jods this is AMAZING. Even though you had said a dress, I never imagined one so incredible as this. That skirt! Is it heavy? Jemma looks wonderful - you must feel so elated to have this finished and photographed! You rock Jods - really!
i am lost for words............. OMG...thats all that comes out... take a breath... WOW... that is the most amazing dress i have ever seen...so beautiful, so creative, simple DIVINE...
When I saw it in person a few weeks ago it took me ages to pick my jaw back up from the floor!!! It is a real stunner Jodie and Jemma has done well showing it off so beautifully! It's amazing! The black trim looks great too.
Holy Shit Jodie, that is amazing!! I never imagined the 'big project' to be a dress. Incredible! You must never want to see another strip of selvedge again, and yet you tell me there's more projects planned. Crazy Lady.
I love the dress. I love the photos showing off the magnificence of it all and your daughter is a stunner! That is truly a work of art-whatever will you come up with next?
Absolutely a work of art and amazing and stunning and so retro and fits so well and...... Such fabulous photos too! Now tell me it is actually going to be worn, not just hang around!
OH MY! Gasp! Sudden intake of breath! Jodie that is absolutely INCREDIBLE and I would never have imagined that the project would be a dress! Jemma looks fantastic and I am out of words to describe how truly wonderful this is. Congratulations!
It is stunning in real life but I think the photos ALMOST do it justice! Gemma looks amazing, the photography is wonderful and Jodie you are truly inspiring. Fabulous!!!! Bxx PS I thought the accessories were red?
OMG it is wonderful.........you have done an amazing job with this one Jodie and should be very proud of yourself harassing/stalking all those people for selvedge......now I want to see it for real........ oh and great pics.....looks like a fun time.........
I really didn't imagine it would be a dress. It looks brilliant!
By the way, is the dress made with a commercial sewing pattern, and if so, which is it? Because I love the dress, even if it wasn't made of such amazing fabric!
I did not guess wearable project at all... that is amazing, have you contacted the guiness book of records yet??? That is absolutley retro selvedge wear... Love it!! the buckle and black trim look great too!. Your model looks as excited as I was when I saw it.. So very cool and original.. You are amazing!
I can't believe the dress - it is AMAZING. I explained what selvedge was to my hubbie and he too was amazed. FANTASTIC. You must have the patience of a saint and the dress pattern is beautiful.
If I don't eat btn now and Christmas I should just about be able to fit into that wedding dress;-) Thank you for taking all that time to make it. It truly is beautiful and I have tears ;-);-)
It's amazing Jodie. You sure are one crazy lady!!I had heard whispers that it was a dress. But I wasn't expecting the tailoring and the detail you've put into making it. Well done, I can't wait to read all about it on LC.
Oh my goodness Jodie - it is truly amazing!!!!! How clever are you? Jemma looks gorgeous modelling it for you too - I am totally blown away by that dress! I am no longer worthy to call myself your friend - my sewing is appalling in comparison!!!!
That is museum quality! I can only echo everyone else - such an amazingly gorgeous work of art. Did you, by chance, keep track of how many hours it took? You are absolutely incredible - your creative abilities leave me in awe every time.
Oh Jodie, your selvedge dress is beautiful beyond words!!! You are so clever and soooo patient to sew all those selvedges together. I agree with LadyDi - the dress should be on display somewhere for all to see! Maybe the dress should do a world tour?!!
Your daughter models it beautifully - loving the final picture :)
OMG!!!!! you must be so incredibly happy with that, just amazing. You are such a fabulous talent can't wait to see what you create next. Simply Stunning!!!
Wow, sometimes there are not even words. I am collecting more as we speak, how can you top this one??!! Thanks too for the lovely gift, Caleb thinks it is the best mouse house ever!
92 comments before mine, and many more to come I'm sure.
This is jaw droppingly, tummy turning, drooling on keyboard, absolutely bloomin' fabulous. Jodie you truly are a genius and I bow down to your skill and talent.
How long before we see this in fashion magazines and exhibitions/galleries? Not long, I can guarantee it.
Jodie, That dress is totally, totally AWESOME. Man, you must be the most patient woman in the world - either that or completely insane! :oD I LOVE IT!!!!!!! Can't wait to see what you come up with next - a matching Tux maybe?!
Oh my gosh Jodie! That is so incredibly amazing. I've never seen anything like it in my life. You are so so sooo incredible. I can't even imagine what it would take to make this.
Holy COW!!! That dress is unbelievably gorgeous!! Take about recycle and reuse. Definitely should be in the Guinness Book for most salvage used for clothing :O)
All I can say is...thank you Whipup for the link to this amazing blog!!!
I don't know which I love more - the dress itself, the awesome girl in the pictures, or the way it all works together in that last smashing shot. What an awesome project!
I know your eyes must hurt from reading all those comments! this is one of the coolest things I have ever seen... just one question: If this is what you are making with selvedges then shouldn't I send you my little stash? Do you still want to see selvedge or will you suddenly vomit ? ;)
Hi Jodie, There is the Ballarat Trash and Trivia market at the showgrounds every sunday then there ia a farmers market at Lake Wendouree I think one sat a month and one at Pleasant St School which I havent been too yet! The Trash and Trivia had lots of great collectables and vintage and retro stuff this week.
Well Jodie, all these wonderful comments for such a fantastic job done by a wonderful lady! When will you find the time to read all these comments? Your dress is truly inspirational and needs to be on display in the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery so all these bloggers can come and see it in real life. Hip Hip Hooray to you!!
Just popped over from DaD, love the selvage fabric! I see in the tutorial for the bag you say you aren't sure what about the selvedge appeals to you. I can relate. I was obsessed with the registration marks on packaging as a kid and would always open packages to look at the print registrations. Is it any coincidence I married a screen printer / designer? I think not. You have inspired me to begin saving my fabric selvages to try one of your projects, they really are fabulous!
Hi Jodie. Another visitor from A Dress A Day. Delurking to say WOW. There really aren't enough superlatives, I think we have to invent some new ones. When I saw some of your other selvedge projects (and the measuring tape purse, very nice), I though, cute idea, I could do that. And then promptly forgot about it. If I'd known there was a selvedge dress in the making I'd have thought - great idea.
But the execution, it's SO gorgeous. It's a real, very pretty, perfectly fitted dress, not just a gimmick. You surely deserves some kind of award!!
Thanks for the whole thing. And the photos are fab too!
Love your obsession with selvedges! I recently started a collection of vintage clothing tags and I want to make a purse from them. You've really inspired me! I'm totally digging your blog! suzy
I got pointed here by somebody on my LiveJournal friends list. This is amazing! Is there a post where you talk about how you do what you do? (And what pattern did you use for the dress [if I may ask] I love it!
I'm speechless. And it takes a lot to shut me up. Good grief Jodie, this has to be one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my entire life! And the cheeky brat looks gorgeous in it. You've outdone yourself this time, way too incredible for words... xo
Your dress is absolutely beautiful. I cannot imagine how many hours this took, and how many yards of selvage it took to make. I am speechless with admiration.
Hi, I am Jodie. I craft almost everyday . I am more than a little obsessed with selvedges- you know those little maker marks on the very edge of fabric.
I collect Buttons, tape measures, shopping jeeps, sewing mannequins and old aprons. I work in a Primary school library and read lots of books about bottoms and farts and underpants as a result.
Feel free to email if you have any questions about something you see here.

Holy smokes! Thats a lot of selvege...no wonder you needed more. That dress is fabulous! It's gorgeous!
Wow, this is simply amazing!
You are officially the Queen of the Selvedges!
this project is perfect in every way & is intimidatingly inspiring :)
Cheers,
AJ
Wow, I love that dress! Incredible, beautiful, I want one!!
You are so talented.
Love your obsession with selvedges! I recently started a collection of vintage clothing tags and I want to make a purse from them. You've really inspired me! I'm totally digging your blog! suzy
Oh my! That is one crazy amazing dress!
A beautiful style and being made from selvages just sends it over the top to beyond gorgeous!
I'm in awe.
Kimberly :)
So very beautiful. Love the lines of the silhouette echoed by the actual lines of selvage. Brilliant work!
I got pointed here by somebody on my LiveJournal friends list. This is amazing! Is there a post where you talk about how you do what you do? (And what pattern did you use for the dress [if I may ask] I love it!
Thanks!
My, oh my, oh my....selvedge heaven!!! Amazing work xx
I'm in awe.
Freakin! Fantastic!
I am speechless!
That is insane! (in an awesome way) Really amazing, I would have never guessed you were creating a dress!

Dianah

Oh Jodie - that is just amazing - you have done a fab job with it well done.
Your dress is absolutely beautiful. I cannot imagine how many hours this took, and how many yards of selvage it took to make. I am speechless with admiration.
