The post where I am revealed as a great big sook.

Remember my sore foot? Well, four days of as little walking as possible and it seemed to be on the mend. Three hours at work today and .................... a trip to emergency for an X-Ray.

I am now the proud user of these.............................

and by golly , they make having a sore foot feel like a picnic.

My under-arms are rubbed raw and I think my bra under wires will have to be surgically removed from my sides at the end of the day. I am so very very bad at ambulating on these things , that old people , like seriously old people were overtaking me on the footpath and asking me if I was OK. I fell up the gutter twice and dropped one crutch down some stairs. It was kinda like my legs went out drinking and forgot to tell the rest of me..

I am on them for a week to start with - and no, nobody has any idea what is wrong my foot. We know it is not broken so that's good I guess.
I am not a good patient , I am whingey and whiney and generally grumpy. I am cross because I am in pain , and because my foot is stupid and because my crutches are obviously faulty and I am supposed to be moving the bloody library into the new building next week - Ha !!!

I am cross because I cannot just whip anywhere, like the post office or the patchwork shop or even the bloody letterbox at this rate, without having to organise half the family to get my bag, carry my stuff, just pick up that thing off the floor, pass me the other crutch, move things, open doors and generally join the passing parade that is Jodie-hauling-her-behind-from-one spot-to-another parade.

You know what? It is lucky I put in all that time over the weekend learning to accelerate the sewing machine with my right foot.

  3. Oh Jodie, poor thing!!! We were excited to bump into you and Connor at Lincraft after school (again - it seems we always meet you there) - and my kids are now talking about going over to Vanawatoo to get thier licence at 10yrs!!! Love those little stitched shoes. MAGNIFICENT

  4. Ouch! I hope your foot gets better very soon so you don't have to deal with the crutches for long. I chose to go without crutches when I had a broken pelvis because I didn't want to deal with the crutches.

  5. Oh no! Hope it gets better soon. Crutches are a real pain in the...well, not arse...more like underarms.

  6. You just go on and whine Jodie - sore armpits and ingrowing bra components are worthy of plenty of whingeing!!
Crutches are one of those annoying things that look easy until you actually try them!

I hope it gets better very very soon!

  7. Oh poor Jodie.
I guess that at least you can still sew.
Hope you can soon chuck those crutches far, far... away.

  8. Oh, I hope you get done with those soon... what a pain... no pun intended.

  9. Oh you poor girl!!! I had to have a bit of a laugh when you said the old people were overtaking you. LOL.
I was thinking you will probably have to make up something to add some cushioning to those dreaded crutches.
Hope your not on them for long.
    Hugs Fiona
ps. You make have to turf those bras for a while???

  10. Hey, I'd be a big sooky la-la too. What's the point of keeping your suffering to yourself? hope your foot gets better soon though.

  11. I've never had crutches, but I know I'd be a big baby too! It's just OK to whine sometimes!

loved the last sentence of your post though :)

  12. Oh, it's horrible when your bra wires start growing into your body. You poor thing :-( I hope you get much better soon, and that the sewing manages to cheer you up a little. x

  13. oh you poor thing! hopefully they can figure out the problem and bring you back to normal! thank goodness you have your other foot to help with the sewing! Fell better foot!!!

  15. well poop... you did have a pity party Jodie! ((HUGGERS)) I only sew with my right foot???
I broke my toes, then fractured my foot only months later I didn't use crutches.. I felt like I was a propped up whale, so I just whinged and whinged and hobbled around! LOL I mean, if you are sick, you gotta make sure everyone knows it, specially the bloke in your life.. they get a cold they are dying.. I break my toes and the world didn't end! LOL

Lucky you have excuse now to put your feet up and take it easy!

the shoes are gorgeous, but I have to think, its kinda ironic you stitching feet and your hurt yours???

take care and quilty huggers to ya!

  16. How awful ! I hate it when something hurts real bad, but there is no answer as to why. I hope you find the answer real soon, or your foot stops hurting. Crutches are a great way to get around. Hope its better asap.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jodie that is just awful - I hope it gets better soon. And with the crutches you are meant to put the weight on your hands not under your arms, otherwise you will be in so much pain by the end of the week - and you don't want more pain.

  18. wishing you a super speedy recovery - how selfish of your legs to go out drinking without you!

  19. Oh you poor thing - sucks sucks sucks!!! And just a thought - could you swap the crutches for the ones that only go up to your elbow? I'm dodgy hip girl, so have had a few stints on crutches (and many more to come most likely) and find the half-crutches are way better than the ones that go under your arms. I don't know what they're called, but they kinda have a round bit that supports your elbow, and a handle that you hang onto - sorry, not doing a very good job of describing them. And I just got them from the hospital. Anyway, good luck, I'm sure a week will pass nice and quickly for you and then you can hopefully chuck them alltogether (maybe have a ceremonial 'burning of the crutches'...hehehe).

  20. Let me know if you need craft supplies, I can drop by after work!

  21. My deepest sympathy on having to deal with the crutches! Our household is managing with them at the moment as well - my son! - don't know who is most sick of them, him or the rest of us waiting on him hand and foot!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. you feel free to whinge as much as you want to - i'm sure it's good for the soul. much better than bottling it all up inside.
i feel for you - there is nothing worse than being immobile - especially when you have children. i'm so glad you can sew with your other foot - as otherwise you may have to add insanity to your list of woes - lol
    may your recovery be quick.

  24. Yikes! I hope you're on the mend soon!

  25. Poor foot and poor Jodie! And poor underarms! I hope that you recover soon.
BTW, I always use my right foot to accelerate the machine!

  26. Whine away. I was once given some of those pesky faulty crutches after my foot was run over. I tell you they really need to start testing these dodgy walking devices before they send poor hapless injured people out in public with them.

I hope you feel better soon.

  27. Oh you poor thing!! I love the stitched feet!!!

  28. Maybe you could get one of those scooters...not like a wheelchair, but like a skateboard but with a knee pad, like this http://dhmedical.com/attulegcaknw.html Maybe you could rent one. Sending hugs and speedy recovery wishes your way.

  29. Ouch! Well....I'm thinking, maybe it was better if something was broken?! Then you would know why you are in pain, and the doctors would know how to fix it! This must be really frustrating! And....yes, hate crutches, hate them hate them hate them!!
I broke my foot once, and I ended up thinking that the crutches are a strange (and evil) diversion-tactic. You don't think about the foot hurting all the time, because your entire body aches!!! It is so awful! You have all my wishes for a speedy recovery!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sad that you are injured! Love the blog. Keep sewing with the wrong foot... maybe magic will happen.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hope it gets better really quickly - but doesn't it spark ideas of naughty boy dolls who might have fallen off the gutter - when they were getting the ball even though Jodie told them not to go up there and waved her arms around and got cross - and would now need naughty boy doll sized crutches and a bandaged head maybe?

    Just thinking!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thank goodness (as I now say, since having a child - WT??) it was your foot and not your sewing hand! (Not the hands - anything but the hands!)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Word of warning about feet and accelerators; I crashed my car because I thought it would be a good idea to use my 'other' foot to press the pedal; don't crash your machine! It is too valuable! (BTW I love a post with 'bloody' in it!) You probably have had your quota of 'get better soon's so I won't say it!

    ReplyDelete
  34. (I forgot to write): Of course, I will be thinking it!

    ReplyDelete
  35. What a bummer! Hope your foot gets better really quickly:)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh poor you! I hate those crutches too, stupid things. Love the embroidered shoes - fab!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think its a great excuse to get waited on by all others and sneak off to sew when theyre not looking..I have never honestly tried using my other foot for the pedal? touch wood .Get better soon. Perhaps a dolly on crutches???Could be interesting..

  38. What you need is a life sized throne to rest your foot upon! Hope it feels better soon!x

    ReplyDelete
  39. Maybe a zimmer frame would be easier to walk with. Crutches are the pits. With crutches you are meant to put your weight on your hands, not your pits. You can cause nerve damage to your pits.

Hope the foot feels better soon

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh Ba Humbug!! Bet it feels better with that off your chest!! Poor thing! BUT you've got it all wrong! Sit down, get out your sewing and milk it for all its worth!!! Cathyxx

    ReplyDelete
  41. although... if you hadn't figured out how to sew with your other foot you could have had a slavey child down there in the floor pressing the pedal on demand!

Not that I believe in child slave labour or anything .. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Stine beat me to it .... I was going to suggest a zimmer frame too .... then you could really show those oldies out on the streets!

Hope your foot will be better soon, and your family won't have all moved out before it gets better!

    ;)

  43. I have a right sewing foot, Lord let nothing happen it to! Hope it gets better soon. xx

  44. Oh my, I feel your pain, with my wrist hurt, it was just awful.
Are you left-handed? I heard that your supposed to use whichever foot is the opposite of your dominate hand... don't know if its true, but I'm right-handed and I use my left foot. Plus I can use my right knee for the lever thingy that I so love and couldn't do without now that I have one!

  45. I'm sorry about your foot/feet and feeling grumpy, but I just gotta tell ya, I'm feeling FABULOUS!!!! :-P

I just found your blog. Technically I've stumbled across it several times in the past few months following various links from many sources, but was always crushed for time and never explored it before. To be frank I never realized before tonight I was coming back to the same blog either. (yeah I'm kinda slow like that) Anyway what I really want to say is thank you for all the smiles, giggles, and inspiration, and I also need to berate you just a little for being the evil temptress that you are.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I hope you are feeling better! Crutches are very crappy! I love your blog and have peeped from time to time in my pre-blog life and I am pleased you stumbled upon mine. Now I will make sure I return with a voice (well words at least!) how could I miss all of your beautifully cute things!

  47. I hope that foot is improving.

I love the stitched feet (including the bandaged one).

I can feel the need for a companion for Alice and Iris coming on.

    Am I obsessed?

  48. Hi Jodie,Please check this site http://www.walkingequipment.com/crutches to find out about the damage you can do to yourself by resting your weight on the crutches using the underarm section. It can be long term and irreversable. I know because no one told me and now I often have to massage my armpits to get rid of lack of feeling in my arms. Otherwise let the help roll in and don't feel guilty! Regards Cherrie

  51. Poor, Jodie, you make me laugh even when you are grumpy and whiney. Sometimes a stress fracture doesn't show up on the xrays so be cautious. I do hope it heals up very very soon. Yikes, moving the library sounds like a monumental task to me, they better give you an army of helpers.
Cheers! Maybe a good cordial would help too! Patty

  52. Ouch! DEFINITELY good you can still sew!!

I never managed to get the hang of those dang crutches, either.

    ReplyDelete
  53. poor thing, not sure if anyone has said but you have to take the weight (or lack thereof gym girl!!) on your hands, not under your arms or you will wreck your shoulders. Grip and support with HANDS-consider the arm pit things as ornamental! Tracey
