and the things you learn

This is the last photo in my camera. Not surprisingly, these two guys are still standing in exactly the same position almost a week later.bigbrother

You know when the doctor first said Simon (Mr Ric rac ) would need four weeks off work and I would need those weeks to care for him, a little sneaky thought popped into my brain and I know that you all know what it was. Yep, more crafting time! Well the craft gods are mocking me now.

Apparently when someone can’t use their arms, you have to do a few things for them, and then you have to do them again , and then again and again…The next day you get another shot at it ! You can’t just wrap them plastic and pop them in the shower and tell them to rotate. Nor can you expect them to eat from a bowl like the pets do. Who knew ?

So I am here intermittently but not really crafting. I might rehash some old posts. I might not. I might talk about patterns and stockists for a bit or I might disappear for a week. Thanks for all your well-wishes and emails and poop jokes.

You guys are a crack up.

  1. I wish I had some way to help... or at least a poop joke you haven't heard yet...

  2. Why can't he eat out of a bowl like the dog???

I went to the AQC yesterday and visited the Ballarat Patchwork stand, and all your chubby bird creative cards were SOLD OUT!

  3. I did the same thing. Saw the Ballarat Patchwork stand, stood looking and had to ask and yes the chubby birds were all gone :(

  4. Dear Jodie
I hope this makes you smile:
What's grey, wrinkly and hangs out Grandpas pyjamas?
    Grandma on washing day.
Hope your husband recovers quickly, it must be very frustrating for both of you. I love the knights, can't wait for that one to be publish - if you need a pattern tester.......

  7. Keep hanging in there....or would that be out there?
Sorry, that's not funny at all!

  8. Yep, no chubby birds for me at AQC yesterday either; they'd all flown away. That should gladden your heart somewhat. I can't think of anything funny to say but that's just as well cos Mr Ric Rac doesn't need any more cracking up...

  9. I would have had the same sneaky thoughts!

And now that I've just spent the last five minutes imagining all the tasks you need at least one hand to do, I'm wishing you boatloads of patience and an extra speedy recovery for Mr Ric Rac.

  10. Wishing you and Simon well Jod and a full recovery very soon xx
Is this making you wonder about being 'old peoples'?? :p

  11. Hopefully there will be some crafting time in four weeks. My daughter broke her elbow and after a period of inactivity they encouraged her to use it. Elbows quickly freeze without use and they don't want that to happen! After six weeks she then had 12 weeks of physio to ensure ful movement. Lots of fun ahead!

  13. I was furious when Mr Fixit sprained his ankle during my first pregnancy, having to drive him everywhere and do all the stuff! But then I am not cut out for a nursing career. I think you are very good, and I'm sure when his arm is better, he'll make it up to you!

  14. Why cannot he just live on milkshakes? Well lucky its footy season, but I guess that doesn't fill enough hours in the day - bored husbands are worse then sick ones!

  15. Masking tape a spoon to his foot and encourage him to practice his flexibility. Surely he'll get the hang of it soon enough.
Otherwise I think you should have dumplings for dinner - it might be like the clowns at the show ... fun for the whole family!
    Goodluck!!!

  16. I have lots of horror scenes running thru my head of how it would be here if that ever happened, my hubby can't sit still for 2 seconds. I'm sure he will make it up to you when he is better...send you off on a craft cruise maybe? See now you are laughing ;-)

  17. These could be very important life lessons - if this situation ever crops up again. Best wishes to both of you. Cherrie

  18. I'm sorry, but I can't be Florence Nightingale about this. Please ensure that every credit you earn is recorded in writing and duplicate and initialled by the (poor) patient, to be used against him at a later date. And p'raps go easy on the fibrous dietary content.

  19. Hope he gets better soon - poor chap! Can't be much fun for either of you :(

  21. Hi Jodie,
Thanks for the craft day in Ballan - Evie had a fantastic time.
I'm sure Mr Ric Rac is appreciative of everything you are doing even though at times the situation may both do your heads in.
I had 2 lots of back surgery a couple of years ago - my hubby definitely chalked up stacks of brownie points just like you are doing right now!

  22. Poor armless Mr Ric-Rac! I really hope he'll make a super quick recovery, and that you'll have your own arms all to yourself soon.

  23. I feel for you..you both need lots of patience and seriously, you have to find humor wherever you can or you'll both go nuts. ;p

don't give up and get the boys to help!

  24. Don't they make all sorts of nifty gadgets for people who can't use their arms? Joni Eareckson comes to mind; she draws with a pencil in her mouth and drives God only knows how. Good luck to both of you in this adventure neither of you ever wanted. Your sense of humor will get you through, and thank God it's temporary.

  25. Hey Jodie I've been out of the loop for a bit but needed a pick me up so naturally made a bee-line directly to you. I've caught up on lots of your posts and you crack me up big time. I can't believe I stayed away for so long. I'm happy now.....

  26. After having surgery on both my wrists (carpal tunnel) & my husband had to wash my hair, he sent me to the hair dresser. All the children breathed a sigh of relief i could wipe my own bottom!! Geesh, 3 days later i had to drive 300km to prove i could indeed, drive a car (changing gears, not so good) but i'm a woman, after all. I had dreams of being pampered, a weekend away, calm & no housework, hmmm. Love Posie

  27. Wishing you both all the best - I think you'll both need a lovely long holiday when it's all over!

  28. Hee hee - I went through something similar with Mr Moog both after his m/c accident and then after his wrist surgery a year later. Crafting? You'll be lucky!

We got yet another solicitor's letter last week asking for clarification on how long Mr Moog had required help with 'normal household duties such as shopping, cleaning and ironing' after his accident.

Mr Moog wasn't amused when I said 'three years, four weeks and two days!!'.

    xxx
