Watch me pull a rabbit out of a hat

or try and fit all this (plus the stuff hidden in the cupboards)
into here.

This has to be my biggest avoiding pattern writing procrastination project ever.

In breaking news, I have been thinking of making a rag rug. Yes, it was a surprise to me as well, perhaps I need to back away from my inner Nanna a little ?

but this one from Moda Bakeshop really makes me want to give it a shot.

back away or jump right in ?

  1. Oh, go on Jodie, you know you want to do it.
You do realise don't you that offspring have a habit of returning home and want their room back??

  3. Jump! Jump! Jump! That way you can show us all how you did it :) I'm sure you'll figure out a way to make all that stuff fit.

  4. Of course you can do it besides great minds and all that crap I have been cutting stuff for my rag rug .We can be raggy nanas together, the mind boggles at that ! Can't wait to see your finished room .

  5. Oh! I get it! Raging red carpet needs a nanna rag rug. Yes, it does :) xox

  7. With all this time up your sleeve you know you have to - procrastinate while making rag rugs because you know the patterns will happen at the last minute regardless...did I just say that out loud.

  8. I reckon it looks like a great way to avid moving rooms.

  9. I understand you on SO MANY LEVELS.
My sewing space looks like yours.
The idea of moving it anywhere...shit. That would be enough to have me catatonic, at minimum.
Also just love that rag rug. Was given discarded fabric on the weekend that tonight will be cut into 1.5' pieces to become just this. Brilliant.

  10. This is not an avoidance technique but rather a "use up ALL those scraps and pieces of material that are sitting on the floor so I don't have to store them" project, that will allow you to have a nice rug on the floor and less fabric to put away thereby allowing you to get to the pattern writing quicker. HMMMMMM! wonder if this would work for me.

  11. Jump right in. And you know, the more stuff you have on the floor, the less red carpet you can see.

  12. Why can't you use both rooms? My mum is using all her (4!) spare rooms for her stuff.

I think the rug would help with the red carpet. Especially if you do it like the bake-shop one with bits of red in it. I wonder if you could make a rug using selvedges?

So you're procrastinating by writing a blog post about procrastinating by thinking about making a rug so you can procrastinate about moving the room that your moving so that you can procrastinate about pattern writing? Is that right? Wouldn't it be far less effort to just write the pattern?

By the way, I really, really like the tree and the quote. Did your daughter do that, or did you?

  13. I say "jump Right In" but my husband HATES my rag rug and on its completion said something along the lines of "that is going in our house over my dead body!" I do believe there were also words about not living through the Great Depression, and about not being a Nanna ;) That craft room is looking good - I LOVE the wall with the tree!

  14. The nana rug sounds like a great idea so I say jump right in. Good luck with sorting out your craft room too, you will love it when you finish!

a couple of years ago i swapped my bedroom and my sewing room over - it was a BIG job but i am still very happy i did it

  16. Do it! Why not?
    (don't answer that...)

    ReplyDelete
  17. don't even stop to put on the floaties!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jump right in. And great minds think alike as I am thinking of making a rag rug too :) It *may* use up a little bit of my fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Good luck with that!!! Are you sure pattern writing wouldn't be easier????? Jump right in with the rag rug, so not nannaish these days!!

  22. Go for it .... do it. Everything is worth giving it a go. If you feel like it's something you want to do ... why not.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jump right in and then you don't have to tidy up and put all that stuff away.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah go for it!!

  25. displacement activity

you are moving rooms to avoid pattern writing

so you are making a rag rug to avoid moving rooms

what will you do to avoid finishing the rag rug?

  26. I made a rather largrge rag rug and in all honesty, it was one of the most time consuming things i ever made. All that cutting out strips, all that sewing together the strips (i was really using rags....well old cushion covers and curtains etc), sll the ironing the edges over (like adouble fold bias tape), all tthe rolling into balls, all that plaiting, all the bloody untangling and then finally the back breaking sewing all the plaited strip together while flat on the floor. And while I love my rag rug, I also want a brownie badge for it or something!!!!

  27. So am I going to be the only person that says

    BACK AWAY !!! lol

    PS: love the tree ..

  28. Go on its a whole new crochet experience! I love making them :-)

  29. Your procrastination project at least has awesome potential to some great pattern writing!! I am excited to see the end result. As for rag rugs...awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jump right in. That rag rug would take a blooming procrastinatory eternity. I reckon I have one in me one day - like when I have to avoid stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Gee willickers! (no idea how to really spell that) Hope Jemma's room is BIGGER than the study. Gulp.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jump!I wanna make one too!
And good luck with the fitting in of things. I love the organizing bit of it. It's my go-to procrastinatory device.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Please make the rag rug, because I have one, nope opps TWO (one hooked and one plaited) as UFO's and I need the motivation...I dont have to write a pattern you see!

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOVE that tree. Pattern writing is over rated.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I say jump in. I would love to make one ut it looks a bit daunting.

Looking at all that fabric makes my heart stop.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love seeing the progress of the craft room. Makes me want to tackle my own sewing jungle!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I saw that rag rug too and sooooo want to do it!

Good luck with the room move and makeover. We expect updates.... like next week?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do the jump! Nana's are good.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "Oh Bullwinkle, that trick never works!"

Go the rag rug! They never go out of style.... nanna's or not.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've been thinking about the rag rug idea too, so perhaps there is a Nanna virus going around. Love to know how you get on.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have not done one but I recon jump it - your new room will need it - maybe use all your selvage?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Rag Rug, rag rug, rag rug, yeah! I have had one on the go for quite a while, I love it...might be good to get some instructions!

    ReplyDelete
  43. If the Precious one is leaving, I suggest colonising both rooms. In which case you may first want to make a flag of the Empress Jodie for both rooms. In which case you have half the stuff to move!

As for the rag rug...jump in with caution. Your inner Nanna might grab you and pull you under if you're not careful. Or make a rude rag rug. That'll teach 'er!

    ReplyDelete
  44. The very first comment echoed my thoughts. They come back and want their rooms back.

Query: if pattern writing has become a hateful chore, why do it? This was supposed to be your "fun" job.

Hmmm, a rag rug out of selvedges would be a nice addition.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Of course, jump right in! You know we're all enablers, don't you?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jump right in obviously! You know you want to, just listen to your inner Nanna! And good luck with the room reorganisation - you're a brave woman. Locket xxx

P.S. Happy New Year and a very belated Happy Christmas!!!

  47. By all means, jump in. I've been thinking about it too - I want to try the recycled tee shirt kind.
