Daylesford

Once again I seemed to have failed in the photography department on the weekend. As you can imagine it was a dignified affair, lots of quiet sewing and sharing of ideas. Rumours of people line-dancing and swimming laps in their spa are grossly exaggerated.
Tales of busted zips, failed french knots and people finishing their swap projects at the breakfast buffet are also to be taken with a grain of salt.
I met some great people on the weekend, learnt heaps from stitchers far more experienced than I, ate quite a lot and drank some as well. and I laughed, and laughed. I snickered, chortled giggled and guffawed for the best part of three days. I laughed loud and long, I clenched the lady muscles at times and I snorted more than once. If the level of exhaustion I feel now directly correlates to the amount of laughing I did on the weekend , then I am happy to feel so tired. In boring health news, the toothache that doesn't exist is not a sinus problem , the scan showed no problems at all. So we are back at the start, and looking at another visit to the dentist. At my chirpiest I am fine - a few painkillers a day and its all manageable , but at 2am when it wakes me up and I either get up for painkillers or try to go back to sleep I am ready to remove all my teeth with the first kitchen implement that comes to hand.

Glad you had heaps of fun. Everyone I spoke to on the day enjoyed themselves immensely and I for one will be back again for another year. Starting to become on of the highlights of my crafty calendar. Still giggling at some of the parenting tips. Got to love the mums of teenagers :)

  3. Oh poor you :-( I suggest whisky..but then I often do..and if I continue to do so people will talk, but a good stiff whisky calms the nerves and helps with the pain.
Glad to know the lady muscles were clenched this weekend, I too had a similar weekend of hilarity involving French mountain goatcows and late night kiltwatching...isn't itgreat to have friends :-)

  4. Oh no.. a friend of mine had what she thought was a painful tooth and it turned out to be an infected lump on her jawbone... her diagnosis took forever...

  5. or you could just fall down two stairs and land on the sore spot rather than the dog - that might fix things.

  6. Sounds like a fab weekend, jealous.
My toothache turned out to be sinus. Which is great except whiel I was there he decided I need two old fillings replaced, so still an expensive exercise making a visit.

  7. I know that extraction feeling myself. I often get really bad headaches and whilst in the grip of the pain I have an epiphany which involves my shaving my head and removing every tooth in my mouth. Haven't done it yet, but there' always a first time for everything!

  8. I'm glad you had a (sedate, quiet) oops, great time!

I published a short post about your blog and Nikki's book today. Thanks once again.

  9. Oh dear Jodie - at least te scan showed you are 'normal' (phew)... this is weird...

BUT you have had LOTS of therapy with all that laughing!

Things always seem SO HARD at 2 am... I remember waking at that hour when I was so pregnant and the things my brain would think!!! AND I was not in pain like you!

  10. Any hints on where to get my hands on that turtle pin cushion? Even better, a pattern to make one?

  11. Been there - sat on a toilet seat at 2am, chiselling away at a newly filled cavity with a pin - it did take ages but it was all I could find that would fit in my mouth.

Tooth ache is worse than child birth (drug-free) - the pain is too close to your brain and no amount of screaming & pushing is going to bring that light closer down the tunnel.

Good luck finding the root cause of your pain - keep asking questions!

  12. If you fall down the stairs you'll lose your memory and then your evil twin will appear and then a voice will say "the part of Jodie is now played by Hildegarde Jones" and we won't get to see anymore fab embroidery.

Seriously though - please go to see a chiropractor or an osteopath and get your neck looked at. Crafters don't have good posture (how do I know this!?) and you could have referred pain into your teeth from elsewhere.

Oh and make sure you get a really good personal recommend of who to go to. All Chiropractors are not created equal. And you don't need to pay for more x-rays to go to one either!

I'm glad you had a lovely time at your elegant soirée.

    Cheers,
    AJ

  13. Every weekend including snorting while laughing and clenching the lady muscles is a great weekend!

Poor you for the toothache ... I feel with you! I once had what I thought was a really bad toothache - turned out to be a trigeminal neuralgia, definitely NOT fun! But with the right painkillers it was bearable and I haven't had problems in years.

Might be worth considering in your case, too? I should mention, though, that I never had a real toothache, so I don`t really know if the pain is similar. But it took the doctors quite a while to figure it out since the pain I described sounded like a problem with my teeth to them, so I thought I`d just share it with you.

Hope it is something different and easily fixable, though!

    Fine

  14. The laughing therapy must have done you good for the weekend (o:
Hope they will soon find where that pain comes from.

  20. Ahhhh... you make me laugh Jodie. Of course I'm not laughing at your toothache, that would be cruel, but laughing at the thought of you laughing, snorting and clenching. Hope the weekend took your mind off the ailment.

  21. Your toothache might be Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome... ask your dentist? And, try massaging your jaw hinge joint, right behind your ears?

    ReplyDelete
  22. OH Jodie there is NOTHING worse than tooth pain.
I wish I could give you a big hug and make it all go away. i know that feeling of thinking of all the impliments around the house to relieve it.
but I'm so happy you had a great time.
and I'm completely smitten with mr turtle here. or mrs.
    he is the BOMB! XO

  23. I had tremendous pain & felt like my teeth were too tight. It turned out to be osteo-necrosis of the jaw caused by the bone builder my oncologist was giving me. It is a rare side effect & can be from any one of the types also taken for osteoporosis. A lot of Dr.s & Dentists don't know to look for it. Hope you are better soon! & At least you had a great time inspite of it.

  24. You can't have had any time for all that frivolity, what with all the stitching you accomplished.

Hey great to see you and I didn't even realise you hadn't solved the tooth problem yet - I'm all for removing them, how can something that is not actually 'living' cause so much pain. Hope it gets solved soon one way or the other.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful projects, I really will swap the hook for a needle again one day, though I don't think it will be anytime soon.

  26. My mom had some tooth/head pain and it turned out her teeth were knocked out of alignment by a bang to the head (she fell). It can apparently be caused by a hard knock to the head, or even a relatively light one. Just something else to get checked out if you can't solve your problem. Good luck!

  27. Hi Jodie..I must endorse snorting too..it's really the most fun..I sometimes snort in my sleep just for the heck of it! In fact snorting is far better than toothache in your sleep.

  28. Laughter is the best medicine, so get thee back to Daylesford immediately!

  29. Just so long as you don't wet yourself too much, you can laugh all you like! And if it takes your mind off that blasted tooth then good!

Here's hoping they work it out soon. ♥

  30. My husband had an unexplained tooth ache that went on for days, but still insisted we go away to a very small country town miles from proper civiilisation!!! Turned out to be shingles. Have the doctors considered that for you? He was in a lot of pain, more than having a baby (not that he would even what that felt like). Hope you feel better soon.

  31. Oh no, your tooth problems sound horribly familiar. Several years ago I suffered with intense toothache/headache/shooting pains down the side of my face - I also had scans for sinus probs but nothing showed up. Eventually I was diagnosed with neuralgia and put on medication which stopped the headaches but I still firmly believe that the intense pain was due to a nerve dying off in the tooth (which of course doesn't show up on any scan or x-ray!) The good news is that it does stop eventually, but at it's worst I used to keep wet flannels in the fridge and then use them as a cold compress against my face as that was the only thing that gave any relief. I hope you feel better soon and get it sorted.

  33. I agree with rachel, this could be neuralgia, I work in a neurology clinic and this sounds very much kike the history our patients describe, get the doctor to refer you to a neurologist, they can give you the correct pain relief medication for this, good luck and hope you get some relief soon. x

  34. That turtle pin cushion is to die for. Is there a pattern for it somewhere? Hope toothache/some kind of ache disappears soon. Best of luck with it.

  35. I had something similar with no sensitivity when I touched or tapped my tooth, it would only hurt periodically but I couldn't pinpoint the tooth causing the pain. So my intelligent dentist took an xray of the jaw bone, turns out I had an infection at the base of my tooth, near the jawbone (no explanation how it got there. I now sleep with a mouth guard that my doctor made from an impression, I sleep like a baby, apparently I grind/grate my teeth when I sleep.

  36. ..ahh but alas, I do seem to have an entire 7 seconds of video footage of the alleged 'line dancing'. If I was better at this I would probably have a list of demands...but just want to say had a ball and hope you feel better.

  37. I agree - Daylesford was super good! I had a great time and laughed lots too. Hope your aches going away soon!

  38. A visit to the dentist maybe? My mum had hideous earaches, even requiring morphine injections. We lived in small town NT. Nothing was wrong with her ears, apparently. On a holiday to Sydney to visit her sister mum went to the dentist (us kids went to, because there was no dental clinic in town). Turns out big problems with mum's molars. Some fillings and a root canal, and...no more earaches. Ever. Apparently tooth/jaw pain is often referred to the ears. Who would've known?

  39. Two o'clock in the morning is the dark night of the soul... nobody mentioned teeth tho'. I've had two teeth out this week and it was horrendous. So I suggest mentioning that Mike Tyson is a wimp... then when he comes over point to offending spot where tooth is and say, "Go on then, right there!"

That should do it. Of course you may be unconscious for a few days, but you could do with the rest, no?!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ah Jod, it's mixed blessings when you can't find out what's wrong... hope you can get to the root of it soon! x

I am LOVING the tortoise! AND that stitchery - the colours... absolutely divine! Plus you've managed to make me "clench my lady muscles" (awesome expression!) on more than one occasion while catching up with your blog posts!!!

Love ya honey (not in a weird way!)
