a small ruckus...

As a co-worker pointed out, today was the second time I have worn a skirt to work in about 5 years.
But what a skirt it was ! On Saturday Annie and I went to Daylesford to visit The Makers Market. Of course we popped in and visited Lark and I also popped into ThreadNeedle craft and Purls Palace to show off my first completed project for the retreat.
At Purls Palace I was looking at this fabric when Annie suggested it would be a good school skirt. I agreed and then she kind of dared me to not only make a skirt by Monday but to actually wear it !
Hows that !
So off I trotted this morning, in my skirt - it cause a small ruckus in the staffroom I have to say..and even though I felt a bit nekid and breezy I have decided that I can do skirts, and quite obviously I can make them ...(No-one pointed and giggled and said how home made it looked)
So now maybe I am a wearer of skirts.
The skirt is an adaptation of Amy Butler's A line skirt from the Barcelona skirts pattern.
Voila!
(and because I believe in truth in blogging- you have to know there's a good six or eight inches of fatty boombalatta coverage pinned in the back to hold the skirt on the mannequin)

  14. The REAL truth in your blogging is that behind the skirt is a REAL workroom (like mine!), not an immaculate showpiece! What kind of craftsperson wastes time on frivoulous tidying, anyway?

  27. I love skirts. I own none. Part of looking good in a skirt is finding a flattering style/fit. I usually end up with my back side looking like a Buick! (big american car) Plus I dislike sewing clothes or I'd have more skirts than my closet could hold...but only if I found the right pattern. LOVE the fabric.

  28. Oh my - and what a skirt it is! I never wear trousers and very rarely wear jeans so I am always in skirts and dresses :)

  29. I would totally wear that skirt. In fact I think I would wear it out by overuse. It's great!

  30. Oh I love it, I would so wear it too! Are you going to show us a pic of it on you?!?

  31. A new technical term - fatty boombalatta - you amaze me with what you can teach... I love it.

When I had "sewing" in school (early 60's) I made one with a border print too; I upset the teacher because she wanted plain fabric. I've been a rebel in sewing ever since!

I haven't worn a skirt in ages and ages, and no matter how cute yours is, nope won't wear them. Dirt roads and camping just don't do skirts any good... LOL

    see you

  49. Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh. This fabric is so super cute. I can totally see you wearing this. If you're going to wear a skirt only twice in 5 years, then it should be
    a) handmade
    b) amazing, fun, quirky, cute fabric.
Can't wait to see you in some more skirts soon - just make sure you've got on some of your good undies!

  60. You two are on a roll with this skirt making, Annis, however, earns extra points for modelling herself!! Gorgeous fabric! I love the selvedge quilt, the thought was there for me, but it was around my big day as well and I think I was lying comatose soemwhere for a month or two there, getting over the trauma! Trcaey

  61. Oh! That skirt is adorable! I'm going to have to get my little paws on some of that fabric!

  62. Lovely! Now that you are a wearer of skirts I feel you need to be indoctrinated into a little secret us skirt-wearers only share with the most awesome of our kind. Bloomers. You need bloomers. They are easy to make, and can be as ruffly and lacy or as utilitarian and plain as you like. They keep the "what if the wind blows and you can see my underwear" from being an issue, and they keep legs warm (and thighs from sticking together if it is warm outside). I personally love my bloomers because they are so dang cute peeking out from under a skirt. My favorite pair came from urbanprairiegirl on Etsy.

  63. Oh very very nice Jodie! Watch out because you may be converted to the dark side and start making all your clothes soon. A line skirts are the BEST - so easy to sew and a great way to show off groovy fabric - and comfy!

    ReplyDelete
  64. wow it's fantastic! love love love it. Cant wait to see what skirt you make next... perhaps something with a texty/fonty fabric? :o) .. I still need to send you that parcel *is utterly useless*

  65. Ooooh Jodie - GORGEOUS skirtage!!! Not surprised you caused some staffroom ruckus with that fab creation. Have to say though, I'm just giggling at the thought of the bustle going on on your mannequin - just the same as mine would...if I had a mannequin.....I certainly have the bustle bit sorted ;)
