Doll week !

So I stuck pretty much to the plan of doll making this week.

You need to know that these girls were already sewn and stuffed - I had a huge bag of limbs and heads and bodies before the week started. I just had to hand sew all their limbs and give them faces. I can usually manage the hand sewing part of one doll a night - hand sewing is not my forte!!!

Hazel and another were already finished and the little sweetie with glasses already had a face so I guess I put together 6 dolls this week.
I have become obsessed with dolly freckles and a few of these girls got freckles after the photo. I had to stop myself giving them all freckles.

There are two more on the go but I had to wait for some felt for their hair so I hope to get those finished this week.

That will bring me to a total of 10 dollies ....OMG that means 10 cardigans, 10 scarves, 4 hats (it depends on the hairstyle) 10 coats or capes, 20 reversible dresses, 10 handbags, 10 little friends and some felted shoes for the girly with no shoes....need to be made, as well as 10 carry bags for them to travel in. Yikes - I might need to work on The Year of doll clothes !

'cause they can't get around in paper bags forever !

  2. At first glance I thought you'd made them all girl guide uniforms and were going to sell them as an adorable pack with badges and a campfire.

  3. Oh and I have real life freckles and I think they're over-rated.

  4. Oh my goodness, they are all so adorable. Are these for the shop Jodie? And... and... is it possible to reserve one? I'm sure the answer is probably not, so I guess I'm just going to keep my finger on the clicky button at the ready to get the girl I've fallen for :)

  10. Oh Jodie, and you say I have good pattern skills? Your dolls never cease to amaze me, even in the nuddy!

To tell you the truth I didn't realise they were wearing paper bags in the last photo - they look kind of like scout uniforms! Or army uniforms. My favourite is the girl with the bun, or the pigtails! Or the glasses. Oh or the flippy hair! Or... Well, I love them all!

  14. hehehe, I was singing the Annie song in my head too! They look like poor little orphans in their paper sacks. I am sure they will all be decked out like proper little ladies by the time you are finished with them, and have manners to match of course!

  19. They are so gorgeous! I totally love Hazel with her freckles!!! And you should definitely include their paper bag dresses when you pack their bags! I once went to a "Sing-along-a-Sound-of-Music" as a brown paper package tied up with string, having run up a tunic dress in brown paper on the sewing machine - I was pregnant with Daisy at the time so the package had rather a lot in it!!!

  41. Ha! Those paper dresses: so cute!
I love all your dollies, but especially that freckled one with the flip hairdo.

My boys can't wait for you to write more stories about the dollies. I've read them all the stories on your blog (they especially like the one where the boys' basketball goes on the roof) and they keep asking me if there are new ones every time I visit you!

  42. De-lurking to say that I love these dolls! I thought they were dressed too! It's amazing what you can do with a paper bag!!! Lovely, lovely work.

  43. I could be like everyone else and tell you how adorable I think your dollies are (and they are!!) but I am going to be a pain and inquire after Granny's quilt. You put the top together in record time, but we want to see the quilting, back, and binding, too. :>}

  44. Well I for one really like the paper bag dresses!

I must thank you for posting once about making patterns for your dolls' clothes, from kitchen roll. I now make all my monkey clothes using a pattern made from kitchen roll - it works brilliantly! Thank you.

Those are fabulous dolls - even without the fabric clothes. x

  45. Oh my gosh they are lovely. Simply amazing. I am ok at hand sewing but terrible at stuffing. When I think of making a softie I cringe because I know I have to stuff! I can't imagine doing all this work for the dolls. But they really are darling.

  46. I thought they were girl scouts too! So cute :-)

  52. Oh so cute!

They reminded me of a Girl Scout troop but on closer inspection I, too, was reminded oftrhe P{aper Bag Princess [a character I assumed one year for book parade!]
