I am in a bad way at the moment - I am totally focused yet all over the place, driving people mad and obsessing.
I check the letterbox ten times a day.
People, even crafty people's eyes are starting to glaze over when I talk to them. I can't stick to anything, I am totally sleeping, eating and dreaming
THE BIG SELVEDGE PROJECT.
I am 24 inches and one days sewing away from finishing the big selvedge project.
Even typing that makes my heart race.
24 inches
so close........
24 inches represents approximately 66 pieces of selvedge.
25 of those pieces need to be 1.5 metres long
the rest need to be a metre long.
That's a whopping 78.5 metres of fabric.
(and yes I may have actually calculated the cost of buying that much fabric but I came to my senses quick smart)
and yet so far......
I probably have some selvedges floating around, but only 1m long ones. I am happy to doante them if you would like? They look so amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love what you are working on, it looks really interesting. I can't wait to see what it all becomes.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could help you out. Sadly Opped fabrics rarely yield selvedge.
ReplyDeleteHang in there I'm sure your valued blogging friends will come to the rescue ... now if it had been before I shifted I 'know' I would have been able to help out ...
ReplyDeleteNow don't despair you'll get there ... OOroo ... Bethel
I have selvedge! I've been saving it for you. It's not much, but I can pop it in the post today if you send me your snail mail addy.
ReplyDeletequiltingmick@gmail.com
You'd have to buy only half that much, surely... selvedges both sides, yes? (Because 39.25m is *so* much more affordable!)
ReplyDeletei can send you selvedge if you want it and think it will get from the US to you in Australia before you already have what you need. just drop me a line and let me know! i'd love to contribute to the BSP
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing Jodie!! I have sent all I have but SO tempted to buy fabric just to send you the selvedge!!!!! You are nearly there! ;-0
ReplyDeleteJodie your project looks amazing! Cannot wait to see it when you are finished! Sewing on adrenalin?
ReplyDeleteIt looks so interesting - can't wait to see what it becomes!
ReplyDeletemy heart is skipping a beat! cant wait to see what you have done:)
ReplyDeleteIt's a dress, isn't it. Oh my, picture that. A selvedge dress.
ReplyDeleteI'll drop you some in your letterbox tomorrow am when I drop Maya off at creche. I don't think there are any really long bits but I'll see what extra's I have. If you need them today let me know and I'll see what I can manage. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have mine all packaged up to post today... do you need it still? I have at least one piece that is 1m long...
ReplyDeleteI'm scouring the photos to see if I can see any of my selvedges there!
I better be seeing my selvedge in there somewhere!!
ReplyDeleteit looks amazing so far :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the big unveil. Since I started regularly dropping in on your blog I have been saving selvages. But unfortunately do not have any that long. :( Not the world's straightest cutter either but scrounging for you. Besides, you have started something with that teapot tutorial. 3 teapots started but need their bits put together. You have started an obession here....
ReplyDeleteLove your selvedge blocks. looking forward to see it finished. I have starte to make some too and it is soooooo addictive to save all the selvedges now. And cry thinking of all the ones I have thrown away before. I even have ordered the selvedge book now.
ReplyDeleteOoooh Miss Jodie, so close but so far! I am unlucky with selvedges (whenever I buy fabric it always gets cut off JUST before the cool dot part of the selvedge begins). Besides that, I usually only get 20cm of fabric anyway but I'll have a look around, I might yet have some for you! This is donating for a cause!

NO you can't buy that much fabric........is poor Annie sick of your craftyness.......your sounding pretty desprate now..........lol.........
ReplyDeleteHey Chook, Annie LOVES it. All that craft talk at school is just so NOT "Boreing!" Holidays will be better though. I will look too Jodie in my cupboard for some long ones - the project is looking GREAT!
ReplyDelete...getting just as excited to see the finished product.
ReplyDeletesorry only buy 1/4 of a metre at a time that way i can get 4 of different fabrics for the same cost as a metre.
It's ok, just stay calm and it will all come together! Just keep stroking the selvedges! Lucy x
ReplyDeleteOh and I had more selvedges to send you. Do you still want more or are you sick of them now
ReplyDeleteBugger, I told you I was bad at getting to the post office. I promise, cross my heart and hope to die that I will put the selvedges in the mail tomorrow! I think a few are actually a couple of metres long too. By the way I'm driving through Ballarat on Sun 28th on my way to Halls Gap!!
ReplyDeleteHow weird! I labeled up your envelope last night. I will cut more selvedges tonight. I am sure I could get yuou some long ones BUT it would'nt get to you in a day... will you still need it if the post takes a week or so?
ReplyDeleteI might be able to help - I have just stocked up on fabric to make clothes etc forth kids, so have several min 2 metre cuts here, all with selvedges intact. You are welcome to them if you want. Am happy to send you pictures if you want to check them out.
ReplyDeleteMichelle

ReplyDeleteYou can do it Jod!
I CANNOT WAIT to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteI'll see what I can dig up in my fabric collection and I'll try and send you some!

ReplyDeleteMmm..you really should get out more!!! Or have you contemplated therapy??? Take Care! Cathyx
ReplyDeleteI'd love to send you some Jodie. I have some small ones. Would you be interested in 'vintage' selvedges. I can see what I can dig up. Email me if interested lindip at bigpond dot net dot au

Hi Jodi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Annie was a lot of fun to make things for and I just couldn't help myself when it came to Nellie! The cat bag is a simply sandwich of fabric-batting-cellophane-fabric I got my clear cellophane in the gift wrap section and that's what gives it that nice crinkly-crunch. I saw a pic of your cat a few posts down and she just melted my heart - what a FACE!
ReplyDeleteAbby
I save selvedges for you, but most of them are rather boring, not as beautiful as the ones you have been using.
ReplyDeleteDo you prefer them preshrunk? Now I just need your address.
Wow, these are looking amazing. It's funny, for quite a while now, whenever I see a fabulous selvedge, I think of you :)
ReplyDeleteDear Jodie
ReplyDeleteSorry that this posts as anonymous. I am not very good at the blogging game. I do however, read your blog religiously and many others but I'm not brave enough to start one myself. Anywhooooo I have some selvedges I have been saving for you and if you send me your address on my email which is eric.gayfer@optusnet.com.au. I would love to post them to you. Regards Judi X (I am a friend of Miss Marzie's).
I'm making 3 skirts today - so I have three pieces of 2m long selvedge if you would like them. Send me an email if you do.
ReplyDeletedo you still need more selvage
ReplyDeletei just picked up 3 huge bolts of fabric today :D
good selvage on all of them
I'll have to have a rummage to see if I've got any. Are you feeling quite sick with anticipation of the finished thing?
ReplyDeletexxx
How adorable...I have also always loved those little dots (anything with dots!), but had never thought of doing anything with them. Very creative!
ReplyDeleteI have just made a few more squares for my quilt, and I have cut off the selvedge to send to you!! (a pic here)
ReplyDeletehttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3018/2896885714_d435b2f570.jpg?v=0
Where can I send it to?
hi- new here and just loving your site.. FYI - you can go to local fabric shops and ask them to save for you.. there are a lot of quilt shops here that do save for a few women that make purses and pin cushions with them. I will have to come back and see the finished product!
