press for help

That would be me, actually, pressing you guys for a bit of help.

At school this term I am hoping to have a bit of a look at places in Australia. I have made a big map of Australia for the pin board and am going to ask the kids to get their friends and relatives to send us a postcard from wherever they live in Australia.

Of course then I figured I'd up the ante a bit and ask blogland (well from Australia at least) if they would like to help us.

So as of tomorrow when I am "officially" back at the day job - if you would like to drop us a postcard from your town / city / territory...please address it to:

The AWESOME Library Chick (it pays to advertise, you know...the principal might collect the mail)

Black Hill Primary School

601 Chisholm street, Ballarat. Vic. 3350

Please don't write a personal message to me on it, you could just tell us what it is your town is famous for- or just leave it blank and we will do the investigating. At the end of term I will try and remember to take a photo of the pin board. At the moment we are only concentrating on Australia so please don't send any from O/S. It doesn't matter if your town is big or small, near or far...and if your town is too small to have its own postcard, why not just send us a photo.

Five hundred and twenty three children and one library chick thank you in advance.

  10. Great idea, a postcard is on its way from Albany WA. My sons' class did some thing like this with flat Stanley, they sent him to family and friends around the world and asked people to take a photo of Flat Stanley at their home. It was amazing where Flat Stanley was taken.
I look forward to seeing the results and may even put it on my to do list for our school library

  20. I just had to pop in and say hello because I had myself a little laugh. My name is also Jodi and I crochet rag rugs! Additionally, I'm presently crocheting rolls of ... ric rac! :D You're like my Australian doppelganger. :)

Now, I'm off to find that crochet-a-long. How cool!

  26. What a wonderful idea ... your school kids are going to love that. Expect to get a postcard from me in Adelaide .... I just live in a suburb ... no where really interesting .... but nevertheless, a place in Australia. What a fun idea. Will be interested to see what comes of this. Do you only want people from your blog to send them or can I get some other people to send some too. My sister lives in Tassie and I can get her to send you a postcard too.

  29. Ok - I LOVE this idea. I'll get the tackiest (school appropriate - there are some bad ones from my town, as from all Aussie towns, I would guess) postcard. Perhaps I might even get the nicest postcard to send you. I think I'll get my kids to write it.

I might talk the school teacher into doing this - what an excellent idea!

Yah to the Awesome Library Chick. xxx

  30. So sad you didn't start this up last year.
Something tells me a post card from up the road would not be as fun. x

  31. I'm with Kate and I, like Lotti will be putting out a message on facebook and see if we can't up the ante on the idea.
I think it is a fantastic concept!
Go the Awesome Library Chick! :)

  32. Way cool, Jodie. Something from Launceston heading your way! I graduated as a teacher in Ballarat many years ago and spent some time at Black Hill. Launceston is very much like Ballarat , especially architecturally - one reason I like it so much.

  33. Hi Jodie!
    Great idea :)
Is it OK if I'll send you a couple of postcard from the places I visited last year (but I don't live there)? ;)

    Hugs,
    Tatyana

  35. Love it. Some people do think NZ is part of Australia - but not yet. Love the self promotion too.

  36. What a fun idea! Though I have to gently remind Lyndy that Australia is generally regarded as NZ's West Island ;)
