Keeping up with the Jones' (or Annie)

Every school term without fail, Annie makes a new handbag. Her bags get more and more complicated as she works through almost all of Nikki's patterns. This term, it could not be avoided, my bag with a great big split in the front PVC had to go...it was getting embarrassing.

So at the last minute I made a new bag - same as every other bag I have made for about four years, but this time with thicker PVC. Kind of dull and boring and practical - but saved by the awesomeness that is my favourite Ink and Spindle fabric ever, long discontinued and hoarded until now.

Ahead of me on this three day weekend, is some papercraft........yep never thought I'd be putting that word on my blog. A bit of Red riding hood tweaking, a bit of rag rugging, all the general domestic godessing and (fingers crossed) the final final finishing of these as yet unnamed fellows below.

ooh , and the first postcard arrived at school yesterday, (Thanks Catherine) correctly addressed to the awesome Library chick......accompanied by the statement from the office ladies - "Jodie's been writing letters to herself again"

My postcard should be arriving very soon too Jodie, I hope you get hundreds! Love your new bag, and your cat and dog are TO DIE FOR! I am so looking forward to the cat and dog being finished, Are they going to be patterns? They look finished to me! I bet the kids are happy to see you.

Those cats are fine fellows. The one in the centre looks very self-confident without being smug.

Yep, it's that time of year...I too have bought not one but two of Nikki's patterns. I am looking to take this to a whole new level. Your new one is lovely - I didn't even know PVC came in more than one thickness!

How about Wynken, Blynken and Nod for the animals. Or Tom, Dick and Harriet.
Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, although then you might need to add a mouse called d'Artangnan (Musketeers.
Larry, Moe and Curly
Groucho, Chico, Harpo
Ok - enough, back to sewing.
Love the bag by the way that material is fabulous!!!!!!!

Your new bag looks great. I am glad you wrote about the fabric being discontinued, other wise I would be trying to locate some. I am also making a new bag, as my current PVC bag has fabric exposed at the bottom corners and cracks around the top edge. It has done well though as I made it in May 2009 and have used it for at least 9 months of each year since. The pattern I used at the time was by the very talented Emma at Ballarat Patchwork and was called 'Emma's PVC Bag'. I am using this pattern again.
** Also, look out for my postcard from the exotic and far away land of ....(drum roll please)....Ararat!!

Hoarded fabrics must be used for worthy projects, and yours is worthy indeed. Great bag, kinda small for me, my school bag is huge!@!! But not as pretty! How long does it take you to make that? You are one talented book lady! You don't want post cards from US right? not yet?

Those keys look so similar to the keys in Sandi Henderson's secret garden line. Only hers aren't as black. Anyway, love the little kitty stuffies, can't wait for Little Red, and love the note from the office ladies.

Hey Jodi, I love the bag and softies. The cat looks rather familiar but not familiar. I feel like I know him but I know I have never seen him before. I can't wait to get a pattern for him!!

I agree, pretty awesome fabric--I've never sewn with PVC before. Seems there are few things you haven't sewn with in your crafting!

Love the kitties, can't wait to hear their names.

I just found your blog and really like your bag. Do you have a tutorial for it?

It never fails! It always seems I chuckle out loud when I read your blog! (I've learned not to drink milk when reading...)
Luv the bag, and the softies.

Jodie that is gorgeous!!!!

And I love your little friends, too. (If you ever need international post cards, I'd love to send you one from Canada.)

Frank the feline and Callum the canine are looking good (the only canine name that came to me was Kent but I felt that with some clumsy typing it could be just a little bit wrong so I let it go).

Keep a tight grip on that fabulous bag - it could walk as a result of it's extreme awesomeness...

Love the bag and I'm glad the postcards made it ok.
