It's sort of fun to have a blue hand for a week or so, no?
When I used to henna my hair, I once forgot to wear gloves and ended up with red hands for about a week! Good fun (being a teenager, and having other stupid teenagers making comments).

I have many pairs of gloves, even some with pretty ruffles, but do I put them on when it's time to dye? Of course not! The clerk at the bank freaked over my green fingers. Comet and a scrub brush work well, or go for pure bleach.
I never follow the instructions that have to do with protecting yourself. I usually have painted clothes and stained hands. It looks like you follow the same method.
Perhaps you could use a cotton bud and dip it in bleach and do a reverse tattoo thingy...Too funny..As long as the fabric worked out, thats all that really matters...
Sudden thought! *** Was it intentional so that you really 'Cannot' cook on mothers day?? ( I mean I wouldnt want dyed hands preparing my lunch)..Great plan..

Hah! NOt only do you want to wear gloves to protect your hands, you want to protect the lighter colors from the darker colors you touched before you touched them, gloves being so much easier to rinse!
Of course, then there's the funny look of a hand with just one finger dyed because of a glove blowout!
shampoo gets it off....well, it works better than most other things...ask me how I know. hahahaha

It could be worse.. not sure how but it could be... like rubbing your face with a handful of dye so you wander around looking like an extra from Star trek...for days... thats normally what I do with paint anyway..

Ah, yet another bit of evidence to suggest the responsible, reading-the-instructions method is a better (and boring) way to go than the flying by the seat of your pants approach. Bummer you're not American and it isn't Halloween with those lovely cadaver hands!

I choose to dye without gloves a lot. The colour will fade from your skin pretty quickly (a few days). I find that I have these purplish-black stains on my nails for weeks though. That's what you get when you dye rainbows. LOL
thats hilarous Jodie..... I do the same thing.... or I put a glove on one hand and then use a couple of fingers on the ungloved hand to push the fabric into the dye...makes sense right....lol.

Oh, jeepers! If I lived nearby, I'd bring you a whole box of gloves. I'll tell you that the reduran paste from Dharma trading works wonders when I spatter my legs/arms/face (THAT is a look that is good on noone!). Also, making up a paste of baking soda and water works for minor incidents, if you scrub alot.
You'll be able to scare the shit out of the kids on Monday.

Oh dear!!! So you'll be wearing rubber gloves next time? My DH cleaned out our oven (I chose not to do it cause I was pregnant at the time!) and I got the cleaner and gloves... he said... nah, I'll be right... I don't need gloves... well.... that stuff is potent!! His hands peeled and fingernails started to flake and go weird as well!! I bet next time you'll all remember to wear gloves!!!! Anyone given you weird looks?

I do like blue, I must admit. It's one of my very favourite colours. But not on hands. It makes you look slightly dead. Or as though you've had an elastic band round your wrist and it's cut off the blood supply to your hand. :-D
I hope whatever you were dying is worth it?! Perhaps lots of lemon juice, mixed together with some sugar or salt to exfoliate?

Wow, this is giving me a flashback to a piece I wrote for my student union magazine way back when, about how dyeing jeans in your washing machines could lead to giving your boyfriend blue balls... I don't remember exactly what the logic was!
I had another huge coincidence the other week - I had my first market stall at Made 'N Thornbury and was next to Pepperberry & Co, and realised I'd shown her how to use the auto needle threader in your PVC wallet workshop at the fair! I was the one who brought little baby Jack along.

Coincidence! I've just had a bizarre experience with blue dye myself.
I was wearing new pants and the dye leaked onto my legs. My Mum freaked out because she thought I'd cut off the circulation or something! ^_^
The blueish hands may fade quickly but I think the knuckles and around your nails may be that way for quite a while..... on the brighter side it is winter and you can wear gloves.

Hi, just surfing some blogs and came upon yours. there was an old Dick Van Dyke episode about he and Laura accidently dying there hands black or brown. Right before they went to an awards ceremony for some (colored) black folks. It was a funny show. I was just reminded of it. Habe a good one!
