Well there is no such thing as invisible zips!
Seriously ...if we had the power to make things truly ruly invisible, we would hardly be using it on zips would we ?

Now Jodie, it's a bit hard to tell with grey on grey what zipper foot did you use? That doesn't look like the work of an invisible zipper foot to me.
(Although it is hard to tell from this distance.)
Tut-tut!! Still don't see what all the woohaa about invisible zips or any zips is. Just get an old packet and follow the directions adding an extra 1/2cm to your seam and hey presto! lovely neat zips. And they all become invisible if you put a jacket on anyway. Cherrie

I just got an invisible zipper foot this weekend, and now I don't know why I waited so long, its amazing! I think everyone should have one...

Invisible zippers. Nope. You mean Concealed zippers. Semantics, I know, but lowers expectations slightly.
Success versus failure depends on 2 things, thickness of fabric and how close you stitch to the teeth. You can only change the latter! If you stitch too close to the teeth, the zip won't work. So sometimes a lapped zipper is in fact a neater option.
Yes a concealed zipper foot for your machine can improve results - but the generic plastic ones break, easily.

I just bought an invisible zipper foot, haven't used it yet - I was hoping it worked miracles.
Jodie don't give up. Invisible zips are way EASIER than normal zips.
you are right invisible zips are a challenge but they do look better than your normal run of the mill zips........in skirts anyway.....

Not quite with the idea why, of ALL the things in the world, zips need be invisible. Ok, on a wedding dress, you don't want a whopping big arse zipper showing like you're part punk, but do we really have guess how/ where/ what makes the dress able to open & close, no. Oh honey, don't give up read the directions and try it on your next project. Once you GET it you'll never go back to crappy old zips.
And what about invisible hem stitch?
Sometimes I use a very obvious zip colour and make it a feature of the skirt. {And now I know why one of my favourite designers - Veronika Maine - uses a lot of exposed zippers. She doesn't have an invisible zipper foot, hey!}.
I do think with practice the magic does start to work better and better. Why is sewing zips so stupidly hard, I mean really... it's just a zip.
LOL. Do you know what my pet peeve is- "invisible" bra straps! Those clear plastic ones- they're hideous! I'd much rather see a plain fabric bra strap than one of those. No offense to anyone who has them. LOL. xo m.

hahaha I gave up on invisible zips years ago... and if we had the power to make things invisible you'd think we would have the power just to magically put the zip in anyway.... or invent clothing that doesn't need fastenings!

I hate zips, both visible and invisible, they never look good when I try to sew them!
Thats why I was jumping up and down and trying to get Lara and Nikki to show me how to do it!! .. but I bought the plastic foot and Lara told me it was wrong :( off to spend more money soon

I'm not too keen on invisible zippers either, they're a pain to sew (I don't have an invisible zipper foot, so I sew them by hand) and they don't really stay invisible like they should.
Why are Zippers one of those things we HATE to tackle. I didn't have any trouble in my sewing class 8+ years ago but now because of all the talk about zippers I don't want to do anything with a zipper lol
And I totally agree I wouldn't be using "invisible" for my stupid zipper :)

That's much less visible than any zip I've ever sewn...
The invisible zip fairy never ever visits my household....I'm glad I now have permission to stop believing. I thought she just had a grudge against me.

i get quite a goo invisible zipp, by tacking my seam together first just using the longest stitch on my machine. then i iron the seam flat open (so left sean ironed to the left and right to the right).
Pin my zip in - you should not be able to see the zip as the closed seam will cover the teeth. Then sew zip your standard zipper foot. I find that it is only necessary to sew the top stitch using this method.
then use your picket and just unpick your tacking stitch and your sip should then be invisible!!

Then I pin my zip in, with the teeth in the middle of the open seam - you should not be able to see the zip as the closed seam will cover the teeth. Then sew zip (right side up) your standard zipper foot. I find that it is only necessary to sew the top stitch when using this method.
Then use your 'unpicker'and just unpick your tacking stitch and your zip should now be invisible!!
