Resin casting

Yesterday I attended the first part of a resin jewellery workshop at Threadneedle Craft in Daylesford.

Our teacher Sylvia Nevistic was great, sharing heaps of info and generally letting people just give anything a shot. Sylvia has a great website showcasing her work and also a blog !

We'll be heading back next week to decant our pieces from the moulds and do lots of sanding.

This is not mine but I just love those little paper-clips ! its good that the work is in Daylesford, if it was here I'd be unable to resist poking at it all the time to see if it was ready yet.

and a small dot point summary

  • the five-million dollar dog is feeling much better thank you
  • he is extremely unimpressed with the ear drops though, and frankly finds the associated muzzle quite humiliating. ( He doesn't mean to snap but it really really hurts)
  • After getting my stitches out on Tuesday (small nothing-to-worry-about-blob-removed-from arm-) I rolled over in bed this morning and hey presto ! busted wide open ! If only I could figure out the 1/4 seam allowance, I reckon a nice tight ladder stitch would have been the way to go.
  • Friends for dinner last night with the unexpected bonus of two very crafty women - SCORE !! No idea what the blokes talked about.
  • mini shop update later today
  • Executive decision that dressing gown is de-rigueur for Sunday crafting.

(ha , just check out the date on that last link- it is still un-hemmed)

  1. Yes, Sunday crafting in a hoodie, dressing gown too warm, no bra though, so it counts as uber comfortable & dressed down for the studio!!
Get well soon - you & puppy!! Love Posie

  2. I can't wait to see what you do with resin. Sorry to hear about your seam ripping open. Maybe you should get someone else to stitch you up this time - not a good track record. I hope the dog recovers soon. I am also in a dressing gown and probably the only reason it's hemmed is because someone else made it.

  3. You may wish to inform 5 million dollar dog that experience here shows that cheap shop-bought cake is most beneficial in staying calm during the administering of ear drops.

  4. I'm so glad to hear your dogger is better. Did your stitches come out AGAIN??? You need to give the good doctor stitching lessons. Do they use steri-strips in your part of the world to hold the stitches in place? Our family has gone through a lot of steri-strips this year! (They hold VERY well.) Can't wait to see your jewelry!

  7. After my last baby my mid-wife mentioned she was using a stitch she learned in her quilting circle as she was stitching me up.

  8. Oooh, playing with resin has been on my "To do 2010" list...I appear to be running out of time...looks like so much fun. BUgger about the stitches though.

  11. Hi Jodie,

I love that you were more concerned about the seam allowance than the pain or pus LOL
Hope your doggie is feeling happier and well soon

  14. Mmmmmmmmmmmm resin. I fondled a kit at craft expo then kept on walking. Perhaps I should have thought twice? Perhaps craft camp???

  15. Ooh, I love learning new things. I find that resin stuff fascinating. The possiblilities seem endless for what you can put inside and wear round your neck as a pendant!

  16. Ouchie - for your doggie and you.

They use a fancy glue here for some things that used to get stitched... don't think pva would cut it though.

Hope you didn't bleed all over anything irreplaceable!

    Sounds like a lovely dinner.

    Cheers,
    AJ

  18. Love resin, and agree that one cannot craft on Sundays in street clothes. Period.

  21. Oh you lucky buggar! I've always wanted to have a go at resin -ing stuff. Can't wait to see the results. And as for those stitches things- they ALWAYS burst open. I've never known anyone to have one of those where they don't. It just leaves a nastier scar (and is a pain if it happens the day before you have to fly half way around the world by. your. self. with 4 kids under the age of 6)

  22. The resin workshop looks like fun. I work for a gynae and she does some rather nifty needlework but can not sew on a button. Mmmmm Sunday sewing in dressing gown with no bra is heaven.

Love that dressing gown and yes I would still be waiting to hem it as well....hand sewing is not my forte....maybe you could crochet it up with a nice trim??? :-)
