Medical intervention

This is Edna,

Don't let her powder blue good-looks and quaint (click release) wicker basket charm fool you,
she is a member of the front line.
Edna is at the forefront of the battle against one of today's worst disease...yes folks she is a warrior against arsicus-grows-ever-fatticus.

(Side effects may include helmet hair, cuts and abrasions, and the closely related disease
arsicus-muchos-painus, which may in turn develop into arsicus-muchos- calloused. If pain persists suck it up princess !)

I'll keep you posted.

  2. So, how much for the bike in 6 weeks when experimentus de-arses fails?
I'll start the bidding at $50 inc the basket

  3. The labels on this post are possibly funnier than the post itself.
Personally, I can't actually ride a bike due to the debilitating disease never-learned-to-ride-a-bike-as-a-kid-coz-I-kept-falling-off-icus!
I have an adult sized tricycle. I get lots of funny looks when I ride that around town ... not that that has happened in the last 5 years!
    Bumicus-enormicus!!

  4. I have a cure - you need the arsicus-paddicus-lycracis-shorticus.

  5. that looks just like the wizard of oz bike. so,,are you a good witch, or a bad witch?

  7. It sounds fabulous in theory but that basket is begging for some paté and yummy breads! Good for you though...watching Tour de France highlights at the moment (my hubby's idea, not mine) and those cyclists are like whippets. Take care and use both breaks not just the front one...you'll only do it once! Hope all is well :)

  8. Soooo....you need Edna coz.... you ate too many cup cakes at the tea party ??????

Ohhhh...and I've just got a mental pic of you on Edna in Curly Pop's fashion suggestion riding along with Andi on her tricycle.....that would be great!!!!

  9. I have that disease too, I'm liking your prescription, I need an industrial strength Edna to accommodate my derrière! ;-)

  10. I tried bike riding in adult life when I was in Greece...ahh was seriously PETRIFIED.

Loved bike riding as a kid but as an adult I suck. My husband said I was riding so slow that gravity could take over.

  11. This has got to be one of the funniest posts you've ever written, the labels cracked me up and so did some of the comments. All I can say is check your seat position, it can make the world of difference to a comfortable ride and reducing arsicus-muchos-painus!

  12. Edna is beautiful. I'm sure she will be a great ally in your fight.

  13. Jodie, I love love love the basket. Must have one, is it a Ballarat purchase?
I love riding my bike to school with the kids, it is such a great chance to chat to them!!- although it does always result in one of them bawling for some reason or another??? I think arsicus grows ever fatticus is spreading!

  14. She's beautiful!

My new bike arrives on Friday so I'm very much into looking at pics of pretty bikes right now for basket/bag ideas.

I want to adorn my carrier with this beauty:

    Happy riding!!

  15. Love the bike and hoping it inspires you! I need a bit of that inspiration too... Watch out for those tram tracks (do they still exist in Ballarat? It's been ages - years in fact - since I was there!)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think the dollies would like a ride in that basket!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Perhaps if doctors used terms like arsicus fatticus people would be more likely to exercise. :o) Edna is a beauty. Good luck.

  18. she's a beauty!
Once I fell off my bike in the middle of a busy main road (I was 8) and instead of picking me up and cuddling my poorly knees better my mum almost wet herself laughing. I've been afraid of bikes ever since.

  19. You have brighten up my night. I have visions of a you peddling to work and then the walk from the bike to your office. lol lol Hope no one is watching you. lol

  20. Have fun - hope the results are as beautiful as the medicine.

  21. OH yes, love my bike complete with Wizard of Oz style basket on the front. Um, German Shepherd does not fit in there as well as Toto.
Edna, awesome name, thus my wholesale label Edna&AliceMay - my gorgeous grandmothers who were seamstresses of course!! Love Posie

  24. Can Edna come over for a play?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Are you picking me up on that tomorrow night? I don't think I will fit into that basket ..

    ReplyDelete
  26. She is beautiful - I'll be tuned for the results - surely it is easy to be gorgeous when you have such a beatiful accessory. Enjoy

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't know if I laughed more at your post or the reappearance of Mr Burley .

    ReplyDelete
  28. Edna is gorgeous! And I can hear her screaming that she wants an ADORABLE robot party in her basket!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh my gosh - the labels had me laughing out loud for real!!!!!

My warrior in the arsicus-grows-ever-fatticus battles is called Marilyn.

    Ready? Set... GO!!!

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. heheheheehehehe have you got a pet or small child you could take along for company? you know, in the basket :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love the whole thing. I too suffer from this disease and have a vintage cruiser ( no gears) and an uphill route towing my children in a bike trailer! ARGH! the side effects are very painful indeed!

I think your labels are hilarious!

Way to go... I hope you resolve your medical condition at a quick pace!

    ReplyDelete
  32. She's beautiful. I hope she and your arsicus get along famously :p x

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm sure Edna and your arse will get on fine! Just ride on through the pain!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I laughed so hard my animals looked at me like I was crazy! Love your articus faticus machine - the basket could hold a whole bunch of eatable flowers ... no, yes?

I'm sure I could ride again, but I have dirt roads with rocks and hills so I don't think I'm going to try it. Besides the dog would have to run beside it with a leash and I'm sure my articul faticus would really be sore!!!

  35. so nice!! it's just like a bike i was eyeing recently. the basket is great too.
i suggested my hubby and i get bikes for mothers day and fathers day. still working out where the 3 and 1 year olds would go. wonder if they sell baskets that big . . .

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love the bike, she's very chic. The only thing that would make her chic-er would be an Ernst in her basket. :)

I wish it was safe to ride a bike around here but our roads are very narrow and hilly and have quite a bit of traffic. I refuse to load a bike into the car to go for a ride. That just seems wrong somehow. I used to ride a lot when I lived in flat Florida. Loved it, made me feel so free! Have fun with Edna, Jodie!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wasn't Arsicus Fatticus the head of the Infamous Cyclicus Roman Legion?

You need to stand and pedal so that your Gluteus Troppo Maximus (Arsicus Fatticus for Doctors) won't be Mucho Ouchus! Either that or walk, you get the exercise and yer bum hurts less! You could put Jude in the basket... then you'd have a ready made siren!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jodie, you are so funny and fabulous! Only you can take a bicycle photo and be funny about it. My favorite funny bit I think (not only of this post but of your posts in general) has to be the labels. My Bum Hurts! Oh my side hurts from laughing. Bless you, funny, self-deprecating gift to the blogging world, you!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Heehee! You could buy Edna a sheep-skin saddle-cover...works wonders for that nasty ouchus arsus syndromme!!! Ask me how I know?!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yep, suck it up Princess!! hehe!

I do think we need to see photographic evidence of this side effect you call "helmet hair", you know just purely in the interest of science and all.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Bugger!!!! You mean riding a bike is the only cure for that disease???? Think I'll live with it for a bit longer....sigh. Do we get before and after photos of the offending part of your posterior......roflmol.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh dear. Oh dear. I'm sure mine wouldn't fit on a bike seat. So it'd probably destined to stay as is for a while longer! ;) Good luck with your "suck it up princess" challenge!! I fell off my bike (with child in a baby seat on the back!) last year. Not keen to repeat the experience. Especially as my lovely father captured the whole event on video camera.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just keep peddling away Jodie! You go girl!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh Jodie, you have such a way with words. I just love her and the basket just tops it off. Look forward to more stories.

  45. No pain no gain chicky babe.... :D

  46. Well, now you need a bell!
My husband runs marathons( doesn't it make you want to vomit at the thought?) so while he is training I ride his mountain bike along side him and keep him company and tote his water. By the end of his marathon training I thought I had broken my tailbone. 20 miles all at once even at a really slow pace is AWFUL! So just remember, you will get used to it and it could be SO MUCH worse. :) Good job! Keep it up!

  47. Just love the basket...I am jealous..will just have to get one...will have to dust the cobwebs off my bike as I have that disease as well...so you do not get so much arsicus-muchos-painus try a gel seat covered with a lambs wool cover...muchos-more-comfortius...keep pedalling..thanks for the best LOL of the day...LindaB

  48. Thanks for my belly laugh for the day Jodie. I'm not laughing of course at the thought of you riding high on Miss Edna, althouth that mental image did amuse me... your post and the comments were hilarious!!

  49. Edna is a deadset spunk! New bikes are so nice now, specially compared to the crappy one I've got from the 90s. I jealous. Hope your arse recovers soonicus.

    ReplyDelete
  50. And if you do get the calloused arsicus, get thee to Team Estrogen and buy some padded undershorts. They're not lycra. You wear them under your normal pants. They are soooo good.

Love Edna. My sky blue bicycle waves hi!

    ReplyDelete
  51. just one tip from a bike rider....invest in a small rear view mirror( for traffic..NOT YOURS! ) that goes on your handle bars. That way you won't be surprised by the big trucks and buses zooming past you. Saved my bacon many a time. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Edna is devine.
I hope her basket is big enough to carry a bottle of grape juice with bubbles, dip and crackers. That would make the riding worth while and help with myarsehurtius.

  56. Hiya Jode - one thing I am always guaranteed when I read your blog...A massive grin. Whilst I fully empathise with the predicament you and your arse find yourselves in (I used to ride to work too)...I wanna hear a post from your bike, what does Miss Edna have to say about all of this exercise guff!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Geez! You wouldn't want to mess with her! She looks fiercely determined:)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wish I'd bought an "Edna" instead of my "manbike"...which has me bent over so much that I get a back ache...Edna looks so much easier and heaps more fun to ride....

  59. I have that disease in one of its forms. Mine is stomachus-grows-ever-fatticus.

  60. Ride like the wind Jodie. She's a beauty.

  64. Gorgous bike and post Jodie!
Last year a passer by complimented my "great bike, it's so retro!" No - it's not RETRO it's my sister's old bike - actually about 25 years OLD!!! So old it's back in style again!
    Have fun! And good luck!

    Dianne.

  66. Hurrah! Bike riding is so fun and can def. help with the arse. I do want to say if the saddle is continually uncomfortable or your knees or shoulders hurt after a few weeks of riding, please visit the bike shop and ask for help adjusting it. You might have to buy different bits, but it will be worth it. Once it's set up perfectly, it will last a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  67. You need padded cycling pants you do. Apparently they work.

I say apparently, as my off-roady version of Edna has barely had contact with my arsicus meganormousica since Mr Moog bought her for me four years ago.

According to the expert Mr Moog, just owning a bike is not as good for decreasing the size of one's arse as actually riding it is. If I could find a way to cycle and knit I'm sure I'd be as thin as a rake.

Maybe the pain decreases as the arsicus diminishes in size?

You almost lost me at the quick release basket business - that seriously impressed me and I had a moment of reverie at the thought of what I could do with a quick release basket.....

Looking forward to hearing more of your travels with Edna :)

    Moogs xxx
