Thanks for asking

Hi My name is Jodie and I am a novelty sewer .

I am unwilling to commit to projects that take longer than two days to at least "look finished"

I do not understand projects that involve more ironing than sewing

I do not like projects that require special equipment

I do not like having to remove special equipment (see above) from sewing machine every time I give up on the "big" project to tackle something do-able.

I do get bored with the same fabric after about 3 hrs.

I do not understand chopping up about 300 m of fabric to sew it back together into something only 2m in size.

I hate basting

I hate pinning

I hate exactness

I embrace the wonky

I hate enormous things that require rearranging my house just so I can lay them out to look at them.

I hate that no-one told me that just winging it is not actually a bona-fide quilting term....because it is a totally STUPID thing to do.

Yeh, so the quilt is coming along nicely, thanks for asking. No it doesn't take much time. Just a few minutes here and there. Yes I have only done one third, yes I haven't even laid out the other two. Yes I am sure I know what I am doing, so what if I have never done the quilt- as-you-go thingo before. Oh no, it's no problem to just make up a pattern, I really enjoy a challenge, Oh yes that's right, I will get so much enjoyment and self fulfillment when this is finished...........I mean ...I will....won't I? You know just like childbirth.....you never remember the pain afterwards.

  1. Hee hee - Jodie this is such funny post! Your quilt looks gorgeous and I love the colours you've used.
I'm a quick project girl too. I like to have something finished to show for my time! That may be why that little cabled cardigan is still in my knitting bag and Minx will have outgrown it by the time it's done!!

  2. I especially like the part where you said people cut up a big bit of fabric only to sew it back together again. Very funny post and concretes my decision to refrain from ever quilting!

  3. Well hang on there one moment missus! If THAT is your first ever attempt at quilting then I am mighty impressed - it is GORGEOUS!!!! So what if it isn't finished? Can't you just pretend that it is????

  4. That quilt looks pretty impressive to me.

I know all about attention-deficit crafting projects too. The smaller the better.

  6. hehehe, you *will* remember the pain and that will make you cherish the finished product even more.

And after reading that I think I must fall into the novelty sewer category too. Goodness knows why I am about to tackle my first large quilt. I can only hope it turns out half as well as yours is going too.

  8. the pain of childbirth? I remember that, my 13 year old PAIN is a constant reminder.. why o why didn't people tell me cute babies turn into hairy horrible hormonal teenagers??
Jodie, the quilt is fabbo, you probably could of started on a smaller project, but hey, if its the ONLY one you'll ever make (ROFLMAO you'll become addicted I am sure of it) its perfect! I love the colours.. well done!

  12. I'm with you. Great job on the quilt. Gonna do that one day, too.

  13. It's a fantastic quilt - lovely, vibrant and fresh colours. I don't get how you have only done a third without laying out the other two thirds but I'm sure it will all come together beautifully! My Mum's 70h birthday quilt is all sandwiched together awaiting hand quilting. - so she'll probably get it for her 80th!

  14. It is going to be worth the blood sweat and swearing I promise. It is looking so good already. I know what you mean about the lengthy projects. Sometimes I ask myself what I was thinking!

  15. well I seriously hope you are not going to challenge my award (from myself but I'm sure is internationally respected) for longest time ever taken to complete a quilt project - I started my daughter's quilt way back in , oooh, 1984 (when she wasn't even a twinkle) and finished it when she was 2 in 2005. 21 years I make that. And now I look at it on her bed every day and think sweet thoughts and no I don't mind one bit that she has got felt tipped pen all over it...not one little bit...

  19. LOL !!! I'm with you with all those terms. I'd prefer to just wing it too.
It looks great. Love your colours and design.

  21. No, I promise you will forget the pain AND unike the product of childbirth when your quilt is grotty and horrible you can throw it in the washing machine and peg it on the line to dry!

  22. That post just made me laugh...I love "I embrace the wonky" - you sound like me. :)

  23. Wonky is my middle name!
I keep saying I'll start a quilt but I'm with you on the cutting up of 300m of fabric...I just can't get my head round it, it seems so brutal!
It's looking pretty damn fine though, so you must be doing something right!

  24. So it sounds as if youve been bitten by the quilt bug. They certainly are symptoms I have had. Like the green, looks very fresh

  25. I'm new to your blog but have loved your ideas--and great pictures too.

  26. Jodie, you're funny! You are doing a brilliant job with the green quilt for not having a pattern!!! You are a clever puss and it looks great - keep going!!!

  27. Hang in there Jodie - it is looking great - and what does it matter if it takes a year - although I must admit that I fall into the novelty sewist category as well! Maybe that is why I have a half pieced quilt for my Mum here for her 50th (she might actually get it by the time she retires - LOL - she only turned 50 in October so plenty of time - LOL)

  28. Well, just the fact that you quilt at all, puts you ahead of me.
I'm convinced I have crafting ADD. Pretty much any project that takes longer than 3 days ends up in the "unfinished and never will be" pile.

    BTW, I love the quilt!

  30. Thanks for the laugh, Jodie. Do what you do: embrace wonky, wing it, or whatever cause from what I can see that quilt is looking gorgeous.

  31. I agree completely! Can I sew without measuring, pinning or ironing?

Quilt is great and all these white background quilts are very inspiring.
