I trawled my blog this morning, positive that I had done a post about sperm…apparently not, it must just be one of those posts I wrote in my head.
Last year (?) a friend went off for a vasectomy so I decided to make him a little specimen jar of happy spermies. I recall asking on twitter whether sperm were known for their happiness or whether they were snarly competitive types.
I made a little label with his name and a ward number etc. on it for him (no photo for some reason) and thought it a rather grand and thoughtful gift.
As is my wont I then couldn’t stop thinking of sperm and whales and sperm whales. I Bookfaced this guy asking people whether I should scrap it or keep working on that damned tail.
and I did (insert at least six more weird sperm /whale creations here) and I made a little whale pincushion
and then I made another and so on and so on and so on. I so want to add a little joke here about all of this coming from one little sperm, but I'm guessing you guys are way ahead of me.
Those whales are so cute!
ReplyDeleteThe tails are perfect. I hope your friend appreciated his gift - love that it comes in a jar. *oh dear*
ReplyDeleteYou're a hoot Jodie. Now I want a sperm whale pincushion. lol
ReplyDeleteP.S. I just wanted to point out something. As is my wont... ;)
oops, I'll give myself a stern telling off.
DeleteBlue sperm whale tale is perfect - love that the pins are his spout!!
ReplyDeleteAnd a happy vasectomy present - how very thoughtful!
This is so cute. I never use pincushions, like ever. I keep all my pins in a teacup next to my sewing machine, which I am sure one day to knock off onto the floor and then proceed to step on pins for the following 13 weeks. But, this little guy is so cute. With blue pins in his blowhole! Awesome (I also don't stock blue pins at my house. If they aren't pink they are dismissed. ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOL! Thanks so funny and yet cute and almost ewww, but not quite!
ReplyDeletevery cute!
ReplyDeleteI just keep hearing "Every sperm is sacred" from Month Python's "The Meaning of Life". I think we have the same sort of sense of humour, because that is something I would seriously consider doing! I'll have to get the pattern off you Jodie. We know someone who is going in for the op at some time in the not-to-distant future. It's very hard to come up with a gift for a bloke who is suffering.
ReplyDeleteLove the whales that were born from the idea. Sperm do really cause generation! Amazing! Who'd of thunk it!
Love your work. XX
Yours is the coolest craft blog in the world.
ReplyDeleteI just keep on hearing from "Finding Nemo" just keep swimming....
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh
Too funny Jodie and Oh so very very cute!

ReplyDeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeleteOnly you could give a jar of sperm to someone who has had a vasectomy. Could be why I get such a giggle out of you and your blog ..lol. Love the whale too. Super cute although I have to admit I am admiring that sperm too - in a completely not weird way.

ReplyDeleteIts very Nice..I am very much impressed with this
There should be a jar like that in every Urologists waiting room. I am sure it would put a smile on a lot of nervous men's faces.
ReplyDeleteLove this cute sperm whale - I will be making one.
ReplyDeleteAny chance you could put out a pattern for the 'sperm'? I love them. I would give a jar full to my hubby with a note saying "Look what I found; I thought you told me you had gotten rid of these little buggars!"
Thanks for the laugh.
