Once again I seem to have lost a week. This most recent week has been lost in a flurry of costume sewing and long long looooong days at work.
Last weekend Annie (assistant extraordinaire) and I drove flew, trained and bussed to the Stitches and Craft show in Sydney.
Yes I know that's a long way to go for a craft show but it was definitely worth it.

You have probably read heaps of accounts of all the fun and craziness of the show by now, so I am just going to add a few things.
The talent in the incubator was mind-blowing, I caught up with old friends that I already knew, met people who feel like old friends already, and met some brand spanking freshly minted friends as well.

and I have no idea why I am poking my bum out in this photo,)(me, knitting sprouts, Anita, Jo Jo, Chookyblue, Flowergarden, Daisychain
I gave two little studio talks about blogging and believe I left a certain impression on people in attendance (especially the first talk where I may or may not have pulled my clothes out of the suitcase along with some toys for the display, knocked the whiteboard to the ground and cut my finger so badly that an audience member had to give me a band-aid).
(and yes that is a real live man in the audience there and me explaining that the bleeding just won't stop)
Lets just say that "professional" would not be a word used on the feedback forms. But you know what , and I am surprised I am saying this, I LOVED it.
I mean I really loved it - so I rambled in places and went of on tangents and even managed to get a bit of whinge in there about Mr Ric-Rac and the teenagers but I got to talk about something I really love (blogging) to a group of people who all seemed to be that same kind of wonderful crazy that you find in crafters.
Pencil skirts and pointers it certainly wasn't, but it was heaps of fun and I wish I had more time to meet everyone and have a cuppa with them and find out what they wanted to know and what excited them about craft and blogging.......
So ummmm, Living Creatively - next time I might need an hour !

awwwwww sounds like you had a ball! I went on thursday and would have loved to sit in on your talks!!!I loved the show and as soon as I got out of the lift it was like a blogger who's who!!!!!
ReplyDeleteglad you had fun and I have to laugh about the bleeding! I briefly did tupperware when keira was a baby and at the end of a demo dropped a huge pair of bbq tongs onto my toe and there was blood everywhere! and it wouldn't stop bleeding! so embarrassing but the show must go on!!!!!
Corrie:)
so glad it went well Jodie it sounds like you had a ball, i knew your talks would be great
ReplyDeleteIt surely wouldn't be you if you didn't leave an impression, though, would it? I can bet money that it would have been a great talk, and if there was added blood and gore for free thrown in, well, some people were VERY lucky!
ReplyDeleteps. What is that man doing? Did he get lost on the way to the motorsports monthly meet?
Aw, come on - you could so do a pencil skirt (in selvedges, naturally).
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough I'm not surprised about any of that studio talk debrief. Not even the non-stop bleeding bit. It's not like you don't pour all of yourself into everything you do anyhoo. Right?
PS. Hope the finger has fully recovered and up and about...
So does that mean there's hope for meeting a man in the crafting community yet??? Okay maybe not.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun despite the odds and good on you. Talking in front of groups of people is one of my absolute greatest fears. I envy you.
what a hoot.....what fun.......there sure was some laughing going on........
ReplyDeletedo you think 1 hours would even be enough..........
oh and you don't look too bad in that pic..........lol.......
Thanks for the wonderful time and the sleepover.......
ahhh I see a familiar face...Anita out tarting around again...LOL...hugs Khris
ReplyDeleteYou may need more than an hour... and possibly a trained nurse standing by just in case!
ReplyDeleteAre there blogging nurses who like crafting?!
You look a giggle in that photo along with the rest of them...! Maybe you were sticking your bum out to show how nicely your trousers fitted?!
I'm so sorry I couldn't get there on Saturday, I would have loved to hear your talk. But it was great to see your selvage works in person!
ReplyDeleteHey! I met you too - and the lovely Annie - you two are a hoot! Come back to Sydney anytime!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could have been there and see it - the show, the talk, etc. (the bleeding, not so much). I'm sure it was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have survived Sydney and the S&C show! Glad to have you back down south!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you had fun! And I'm sure your "ramblings" would be incredibly entertaining as you always are!
ReplyDeleteit was such a hoot and half an hour was way way too short. god I even look tall in that photo with other shorties! glad to see you have survived. And make a skirt, they are fun and so so easy for someone with your mountains for talent
ReplyDeleteI wish I was there, sounds like an enourmous time was had by all, if this is the fun you had when you were "working" OMG cant imagine what you got up to after hours!!
ReplyDeleteJust wish I could have been there!
ReplyDeleteAnd you met one of my favourite people ever, Knitting Sprouts! What a bonus to your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your talk was fun and entertaining, even if there was a lot of blood ;-)
P.S Your bum was probably sticking out because you were trying not to ROFLPMP.
Jodie - you were a gem! I went to your Sunday session - poor old Mr Banchee (although he held his own)!! Thanks for your words of wisdom and a great laugh. How was the form of the next presenter standing up the front with you? - it still makes me laugh now!! See you at the next one. Nicole
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as though the Sydney show was a great girls weekend for you. I knew you would do well with your talk session. How could you not when you write so well in your blog posts. I am sure noone minded a little blood and gore, it would have just added an extra dimension to it all.
ReplyDeleteHi Jodie,
ReplyDeleteI went to your studio talk on the Saturday. Thought you were HILARIOUS! Such a nutter! So great to see someone so passionate about something.
Good on you for taking on a challenge.
You should definitely do your next one in a pencil skirt, that'd be great. Nice to hug you!
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd knock them out (just wasn't planning on the whiteboard, huh?). Hope your wound has healed and well done (and heck, well done on getting a dude into the room - that's ace!). x
ReplyDeleteAn hour I think at least an hour and a half would be better. I was lovely to finally meet you.
ReplyDeleteSee! I knew you would be fab and that it would all go well! Just wish I'd been there too!!! Locket xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a blast! You really know how to make an impression, don't you? Really wishing I could have spent more time chatting and laughing, and I REALLY wish I'd been able to go to your studio talk!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! It sounds wonderful! (except for the bleeding part)
ReplyDeleteThanks for being such a highlight of a fantastic week. You really are an inspiration and just such bloody good fun! Saturday night was a blast - even if we had to play the serious 'mum' role to those who were very naughty and played up!!
ReplyDeleteJodie it wouldn't be 'you' if the talk didn't have an element of drama! Sounds like so much fun - wish I could have been there!
ReplyDelete*sigh* Next time you will be given an R rating you know. You charged extra for the blood and guts, right?
ReplyDeleteGood to see a fun time was had by all.. I see my friend Anita in there too.. oh I am with you... I could just stand up in front of any crowd and just talk and talk and talk... love it all.. that is why blogging is so appealing...

ReplyDeleteSounds like you all had a fab time!
ReplyDeleteMicki
It sounds like it was fantastic! And I can commiserate about the costuming- I did that for many shows when my kids were little- I still have nightmares!
ReplyDeleteHi Jodie - I am so glad it went well, and that you loved doing those group presentations! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteRita

ReplyDeleteit was great to meet you and I loved the talk - just wish it'd gone on a little longer :-)
ReplyDeleteOh Jodie-you were a natural-so entertaining and such a laugh-glad I had the opportunity to be there!Nice photo-aren't we sweet!!!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it was such a full on few days but well worth it, I mean you even gave blood so that has to count in keeping the craft gods happy
ReplyDeleteWas great to meet you at the show and to be introduced to your blog (love it!). Lara (the It's all apples card seller!).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they will invite you back next year they may even give you more time and provide you with a first aid kit.
ReplyDeleteWish I could have seen you strut your stuff, especially if you slipped in whinges about the husband and kids, what a classic.
ReplyDeleteI'm defintely coming to your talk in Melbourne. I'll even bring a first aid kit.
ReplyDeleteI so wish I could have been there. I'm sure you did great!
