I can't begin to talk about the horrific fires of the weekend. The news just became worse and worse as time wore on. So many lives lost and so many homes and memories gone.
You can make monetary donations at the Commonwealth Bank or at Bunnings or here with the
If you'd like to put your craft skills to good use, The Toy Society will be collecting handmade toys over the next couple of weeks to be donated to children impacted by the fires.
Lets give what we can.
Dear Jodie
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this post. I had been hoping that a blog with such a high profile as yours would begin to gather the crafting community together to make a contribution.
Readers should also note that monetary donations can be made online to the Red Cross (the coordinating agency) - www.redcross.org.au/vic/services_emergencyservices_victorian-bushfires-appeal-2009.htm , or via ph 1800 811 700 (links are also provided through the Toy Society website).
I don't have a whole lot of toy making experience under my belt, but will definitely be participating in this.
Our little household in Adelaide has been left reeling by this catastrophe.
Our thoughts are with all who have been affected.
In the words of the Toy Society - spread the love.
Jodie... thanks for your post. It's important that people can get together and support in ANY way they can. I've started making a toy already for the Toy Society. Just knowing that in this terrible time... we can give someone a little smile for a little while.
ReplyDeleteThe scale of this catastrophe is profoundly disturbing, and it isn't over yet - the charities urgently need financial donations. You can also make donations through any NAB branch or online through their special fund account to the Victoria Bushfire Relief Fund: BSB 082-001 Acct # 860 046 797.

ReplyDeleteI was thinking that making dolls for those poor kids would be a great idea too!! Great thinking.

Hi, I am hoping to start up a craft auction of handmade items with all proceeds going to the Red Cross, or charity of your choice to help with the bush fire appeals. I would love any help you can provide with promotion, donation or bidding. More info here http://bugandpop.blogspot.com/2009/02/can-it-make-difference.html
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lyn....this is a perfect post for high profile bloggers. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteMy work colleagues and I are putting together some money for donations....it has broken the hearts of all Aussies.
Take care
I've been trying to work out how I can donate to the Red Cross by Paypal and I think your idea of making a toy for the toy society is a great one - I'll see what I can do!

Count me in Jodie. I have some doll blankets nearly finished and will make some dolls to go with them tomorrow. It's nice to be able to do something practical.
ReplyDeleteIt has been shocking to see this terrible news unfolding this weekend. Thank you for doing this post Jodie.
ReplyDeleteI'll get making too.

Jodie, My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in Australia, Please stay safe.
ReplyDeleteHi Jodie
ReplyDeleteI've just done a post along very similar lines. I'm making my monster for the toy society today.
One of the first things I did today was to check the maps to see where the fires are - I was frantically checking for Ballarat (my geography not being great) and I was relieved to see and hear that you are ok. Stay safe.

This is a good idea. I'll see if I can do something from Canada. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI think we've all been shocked by these events Jodie. I've put a link to your post- I figure the more people who can help the better. Glad you are safe.
ReplyDeleteHi Jodie, it is all just so sad and shocking. What can we say? Meet me at Mikes has a good list of other ways that people can help too, eg fostering pets.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing you at Stitches and Craft. Good luck with the making!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Jodie, for this post. Through your link it is very easy to send a donation to the Australian Red Cross, which I have done. I also mentioned it in my blog so three more people will see it.
ReplyDeleteHow could I have not thought to add all the crafters to the "how to help" information?! Thank you for filling the gap!
