There are two kinds finished around here when it comes to craft work.
There is totally finished, as in the project could be wrapped and given away type finished, but more often than not, things around here just get "blog finished".
Blog finished is when something is almost finished, it just has a few details (usually unnoticeable) left to go. Or it could mean finished enough to take a photo that won't show the pins still tucked in the back.
So this week I blog finished a few things.
Craft-at-work embroidery is blog finished, I ran out of cotton on that last little spot.
Craft -at-work carry bag is blog finished, stills need a magnetic closure and maybe a firm base.
Mirabel dolly quilt is blog finished -
Binding needs hand sewing on at the back.
Mirabel dolly clothes are blog finished - they just need press studs, elastic, buttons etc.
This week I intend to get all those blog finished things , actually finished.
I have been auditioning fabrics this afternoon, for a new scarf.
Isn't it frustrating when you know what you want to achieve but you don't have the fabric and can't seem to find it anywhere. Maybe it doesn't exist?

I want grey, I want bleak, I want sharp lines and slightly spooky. I want Johnny Depp in a frock coat(who doesn't?), strolling through mist. I want longing and darkness and cold poetry and maybe some branches.....I want texture and dirty shine..........
Anyone got a piece of that in their stash?
I might just Jodie - I'm off to check.
ReplyDeleteIf you find Johnny Depp in a frock coat, can you send him over to my place.
ReplyDeleteRight that's me going straght to hell with such filthy thoughts of Johnny on the Sabbath!

ReplyDeleteYeah I want Johnny Depp strolling through the mist too...
ReplyDelete(I deleted my last attempt at commenting... sorry!)
Love the term "Blog finished" - I will have to remember that! Love your little Mirabel dolly quilt - so sweet.
ReplyDeleteBlog finished - a great metaphor for life actually!!
ReplyDelete'Blog finished' ... I like that. Good luck with the actual finishes.
ReplyDeletejust love everything Jodie the little embroidery looks sooooo incredibly neat!!!! Yes I would like Johnny Depp in ANYTHING or nothing if the case may be I'm not fussy!!! :)
ReplyDeleteooo I think I should use the blog finished, as that is half my problem, things wait until they are finished finished and see there's the stumbling block!!
ReplyDeletealso I'm sorry but if Johnny Depp was anywhere in my stash I wouldn't be telling anyone!!
I am always looking for greys and blacks that aren't geometric or block colour, that somehow say, snappy and refined, not dull and boring, it seems to be the gap in my stash too.
LOL! Blog finished! That's funny :-) I'm sorry I don't have Johnny Depp for you :-( Should he show, I'll let you know asap!
ReplyDeleteDarn, Johnny was just here, but he got on my nerves with his extreme gorgeousness, so I sent him on his way. Maybe I can just catch him if I set off now.......
ReplyDeletescarf?? whats that for??? *W*
ReplyDeleteI am just funnin' with ya.. it doesn't get cold enough in Newcastle for a scarf (unless you are a sooky woosy girlie type).. I dont own a scarf, gloves or even a warm coat, cardigans are enough for winter here petal!
see another reason to move to Newcastle we have RAIN (bloody lots of it) AND nice weather in winter! LOL
dunno about Johnny Depp, my interest in him died when he become Jack Sparrow, too feral for my liking!
Now if it was Marcus Graham (when he had hair) we'd be in business!!

I love blog finished! All my projects seem to be blog finished - never 100% done! Love the look of those doll clothes.
ReplyDeleteI want all that, too...when you find it, wanna share?? :p
ReplyDeleteI always feel too guilty to ever post blog finished...I always have to finish, trim the threads, press it (or not, more often lol ), and get it practically packed to go before I take a pic of it. Lol
Add a little red or rust, and trust me, you'll have all that. And Johnny Depp.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog - finished or not!My most frequent blog-finished "sin" is to photograph before sewing buttons on. I just pop a button where its final resting place will be. I realise this is a bit of self-delusion as eagle eyed craft bloggers can always pick these things up....!!)
ReplyDeleteI love the doll quilt. I am saving some selvedges for you too.
ReplyDeleteMmmm... Johnny Depp - oh sorry he just left!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteAlison
Hahaha! I love that term: blog finished. I have many of those items in my house.
ReplyDeleteI think you've invented a new phrase there - 'blog finished' is a phrase I know all too well.
ReplyDeleteI took lots of blog finished mini quilt pics with pins in the back when I was making it.
I'll have Johnny Depp - but you can keep the frock coat :o)

Mirabel dollie clothes are just darling, love the colors, 'specially the flowered print. OOOOOhhhhh! Her her quilt is too adorable for words.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a bundle to bid for the auction myself I would.
Forget Johnny Depp...love your prose. The fabric will find you as it follows those words.
Hope you find what you are looking for-loving all your blog finished items-you've been very busy
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm, blog finished???? I know it only too well! Good luck with the fabric hunt! That Mirabel quilt is gorgeous! Could you make me an adult sized one please????
ReplyDeleteI'd settle for Johnny Depp, thanks
ReplyDeletei love the thought of Mr Depp in the frock coat, whats he got underneath? My whole life seems to be 'blog finished'! i love the mini selvedge quilt, you have done it again 'freaky creative selvedge woman'!(sounds like a super hero dosnt it?)
ReplyDeleteOh Jodie, you are a natural with words - I think it is official and should go in the new dictionary "blog finished" We can all relate! Love the bag and look forward to the embellishments. I'm thinking Tuesday and Thursday will be our days.
ReplyDeleteHi Jodie. Come and have a rummage through my stash if you like.. I don't have Johnny Depp though sorry unless you want to watch Pirates of the Carribean while you rummage!
ReplyDeleteMy stash is so out of control that I think I would have exactly what you describe - some dirty grey taffeta or black and grey leopard print jersey - and Johnny Depp might be hiding in there too!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of totally finished vs blog finished. I think most things in my life are blog finished!
ReplyDeleteGee that looks like such complex work! Amazing and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh your Mirabel goodies are looking lovely!
ReplyDeleteThat selvedge quilt is amazing! I've always loved the printed edges of fabric - especially some of the cute Japanese prints - but never thought to actually make something with them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
Umm Johnny Depp! Nice things, all of them.
ReplyDeleteoooh my sister was looking at black and white fabrics yesterday for a quilt for her daughter. she found three which were nice, but not what you were after. she's been having a hard time finding something as well and in the end had to settle for adding some red to the quilt. it should still look good though!!
ReplyDeletelove the finished, finished and blog finished. i have way too many blog finished projects - i need to get them finished finished.
love the mushroom.

You sure have been busy!!! I loooove the selvedge dolly quilt. I keep looking at my growing stash of selvedges and wondering how and when!
ReplyDeleteIt feels like sometimes everything in my life is 'blog finished' ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great description of the scarf that you are dreaming of! Your pile of fabric still looks pretty nice regardless of not being quite right.
I love the little selvage quilt.
ReplyDeleteWow! Jodie so much is "blog finished" I like that termonology.
ReplyDeleteLove the selvage quilt. Great idea.
I love your handsewing and bag that is part of your sewing at work.
I love your term 'blog finished'. I could use that and I don't generally post my craft work. Love the bag.
ReplyDeleteFully understanding "blog finished" and not sure if I want to find Johnny Depp in a frock coat under my bed or back from when he was in 21 Jump Street!! mainstream cute then! Tracey
ReplyDeleteSorry I can't help you with that elusive piece of fabric, or Johnny Depp for that matter! I love the term blog finished - I have a sewing room filled with things that are blog finished. I now have a moratorium on posting about things until they are truly finished otherwise I lose the incentive to do it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the scarf!
Sometimes I feel I'd be happy just to get to 'blog finished'....*sigh* Can't wait to see your scarf of longing, darkness and dirty shine. Will you get someone to take a photo of you wearing it while walking down a misty alley under gloomy downlit streetlight? Make sure you also have your fists shoved deep into your coat pockets, and that you look moodily at your feet as you walk....Oh, go on, go on, pleeeease????
ReplyDeleteI have a big understanding of the term 'blog-finished' - you should patent that, we all know just what you mean.
ReplyDeleteAs for Johnny - hmmmm, I prefer him in crisp white, so after you've finished with him in the frock coat, could you arm him with some crisp white and send him on over? Thanks - much appreciated.

I'm struggling to get anything blog started right now, let alone finished!
ReplyDeletexx
I simply love the Mirabel dolly quilt and your mini quilt from Monda is simply divine!
ReplyDeleteBlog finished happens here too, you're not alone!
ReplyDeleteYou should coin the "blog finished" term. Too funny. If you run into that Johnny Depp fabric, please share! You make me laugh so hard!
ReplyDeleteMini quilt - absolutely divine.
ReplyDeleteJohnny Depp - absolutely perfectly divine.
My house is eternally blog finished... just don't look too carefully or for too long or else everything will be revealed!
Yep, you've coined a new phrase. "Blog finished" is perfect. Love it. Will do my part to popularize (giving due credit, of course). You are so eloquent -- your post was poetry. Regarding the elusive fabric imbued with emotion -- you might consider the new beta site where you can design your own fabric where they will print up your design and you can order it by the yard. It's called Spoonflower (http://www.spoonflower.com/welcome) and you have to join their beta list but I found that they'll pretty quickly send you an email to join. Speaking of which, I suppose I better get to designing something and ordering it before they kick me off...! If you get some, do share!!
ReplyDeleteOooohhhh, Blog finished...that's what they're called. Yes, I've got a lot of those, too. LOL
ReplyDeleteA grey, bleak Johnny Depp fabric? No, sorry, most of my fabrics tend to be on the happy side.
Hope you find what your looking for!
Kimberly :)
I'm very pleased that you think my fabrics are the ones you've been searching for!! Though I'm not sure how they relate to Johnny Depp... I'll drop them in the post today - hope you like them in real life!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love these!
ReplyDeletebesos from Switzerland
Oh wow, the Mirabel dolly quilt is really gorgeous!
