I apologise

For the re-hashed instagram photos but the technology of photos and skinny cords and computers does not wish to work tonight.

I have been drinking too much tea and working on things that were half started, or half imagined.

( I actually drink my tea with the bag still in but being posh and all, I took it out for the photo. I like strong tea)

It is white sheet time. Everything gets worked again and again in white sheeting until it is close enough to use 'proper fabric'. It is one of the parts of toymaking that I most enjoy - that creation of shapes. it is also equally the most frustrating part !

Dont ask.

Yeah, the place is a mess, but it is holidays and I am choosing not to care. I do a mini tidy up before each new idea to make enough space to work and truthfully there is a system of sorts. The little white table is the "mindless sewing table' and is currently loaded with fox coats. The green tub on the floor is the happy, done, ready to draw up properly tub.... And the rest of it? Yeah well thats just mess...

  2. My whole house looks like that at the moment. Do you have to rip the ones in the green tub apart to make a pattern from them, or do you make a new pattern piece each time until you have something that works? I like your teacup.

    1. Nope Carmel, once they are in the green tub they are done. The pattern pieces are there in a ziplock bag. Sometimes there are notes on the pieces, sometimes they are already on the ipad.
The next step is to draw and write the pattern and then start the production line of 8 or so toys and sending it off to the testing friends....

  4. Lots of productive "doing" happening in that room
Here it is just a lot of thinking about doing … not quite so productive …..

  7. There are days I just hook up the strong hot tea to an IV drip! It's especially necessary with doing the math parts of sewing/quilting. Is Finn allowed in? My resident hairy beast steps on my quilts or fabric piles when she feels she isn't getting enough attention

  8. or "visual to do lists" as Nikki calls them. I have a giganto white board (seriously giganto) I don't write on it, but pattern pieces, scraps and uh 'inspiration' is all over it with magnets. the room is a mess, but I'm just about to update my zip spreadsheet.

  9. I cheat and use double strength teabags and still leave them in the cup to draw...extra strong for creating chaos. Thanks for keeping it real

  11. I'm sure you could rustle up a doll that could make use of the softie penis...oops, was that too rude? Sorry, delete me then hehe. My room is looking very similar, I'm doing 'me' sewing for a while, but that doesnt make it any easier to keep things tidy or stop the 'oh, look shiny object' distraction we all get!

  12. My sewing space looks similar when I'm in the throes of a project. Trouble is, I spread out into the whole house!

  15. I do like the bright pops of colour throughout, I do the tidy up between projects too. Sometimes you have to let the ideas fly around for a while too.

  16. I think the world only functions because there is strong tea!
I am pleased to see that your work space looks a lot like mine, which now has the ironing added to it and because that room is on the north wall of the house, I can't be arsed doing it because it is too bloody hot. It's too bloody hot for anything. And no, here in Miners we don't have woosie air conditioning or its like. We only have heaters!!! So we sit and swelter our way through the seven or so days we get in a summer that make it too darn hot to do anything except complain about it.
As for working stuff out, my go-to fabric is calico. I buy it in bulk when its on special at spotty. Not the 90cm stuff, as that's a waste of money, the wide stuff.
One day I'll get off me bum and go and find the wholesaler we used to use. Only thing is, we'd get dead cockroaches on the bolt. Made life interesting.

  19. If it's any consolation, my mess is messier than your mess. Won't show you a pic lest I end up on an episode of Hoarders.
