Where’s your head at?

My (snot-filled) head has been a bit of a whirl these past two weeks.  I taught an AWESOME Print and Sew class at Millrose Cottage and lucked in again with a fantastic group of kids and even a couple of not-kids came along for the fun.20130409_120950
We used Mr Gocco to print a design and then we used that design when we made our own bags.

I followed that up with another crazy fun day at Ballarat Patchwork, teaching a heap of people to make rag rugs. This class which is offered in two hour sessions is always so popular ! A heap of people travelled up from Melbourne and everyone got the hang of it. 20130413_102645
I have been watching as people’s rugs grow on Instagram and I have to say, I am itching to start a new one but common-sense tells me it has to be AP (after Portland)

I spent a day at Creative Abundance HQ, packing my patterns and kissing them goodbye as they head off to Portland before me and than stayed in Melbourne for a day at AQC.
I find photo-taking at those kind of events a bit fraught so I tend not to bother but I could not resist taking a shot of this quilt.

This quilt just leapt out at me, yes it is  dog butt, however the same designer had another quilt there that I was almost equally drawn to. The quilt is called Maynard and the quilt maker is David M Taylor.
Apart from that, there has been ticket collecting and visas and travel money to organise. There have been email chats with an amazingly generous new friend from the US, online Ikea shopping,  and all the usual dull life-stuff.
I am feeling a little bit scratchy-undies today so am devoting the afternoon to making a few more Super Monkeys.
I’ll be back tomorrow with AQC purchases (embarrassingly poor effort on my part ) and some very very belated prize giving.

  1. I'd love to do that rag rug class, much more fun learning something new with a group. That quilt is breath-taking, humorous & such a work of art all at once. I wonder if monkey making would get rid of my scratchy-undieness, it seems to be running a bit deep at the moment but a giggle here & there helps. So would a change of scene in Portland - enjoy!

  4. You are one busy lady! Hope the snotty nose goes soon so you can really get your head around all these awesome projects. Love those rag rugs, oh to live over there as I would love to make a couple if oval ones and

  5. Hey Jodie, I didn't buy any fabric at AQC either. I went there today with the express purpose of talking to someone about magnifiers and found what I needed. Spent my money, had a chat and some lunch with Emma before heading back home. Managed to get myself lost because I didn't want to crawl up Lygon Street, but hey, what's wrong with a little adventure?
Scotch is the best thing for a head cold. Trust me! :)

  7. Gaaaaah! Those David Taylor quilts make me feel so inadequate.
I would love to make a rag rug. I made a small one using a huge crochet needle which came out quite well but I'd love to make a bigger one using a different method.
    Feel better soon.

  8. I'm so jealous -- I want to take your rag rug class, too! Any chance you'll be coming to Cape Cod soon? No? Didn't think so...would you consider a video class on your own or through the wonderful Craftsy? Bet you're the best teacher ever.

Love and kisses from poor beleaguered Massachusetts. We are staying strong through the tragedy of the Marathon and are very relieved that the second bomber was captured last night.

  10. Jod: Give yourself (and your snot) a day off - you've earned it. I'm putting my feet up today after spending all day (and lots of money - where did it all go?) at AQC with Jeni and her sister Jill; today I have to concentrate on my stitchery for this month's Stitch-A-Long project or Chooky will drum me out of the group...

    1. Haha, Chooky would do no such thing! I spent hardly anything at AQC.

  12. Thanks for the mornings laugh - the photo of David M Taylor's quilt is how I would currently describe my world 'a bit of an arse'. Sorry to any of your followers and you if I have caused any offence. Beautiful workmanship by David. Hope you feel better and the snot goes away and your throat feels better. Going now to try and put distance between me and Master 14 (the arse). I know why a mother's love is so strong - stops you choking them when they open their mouths that one too many times. Love your new patterns and the names you selected.

  13. Ah AQC -- the big event of the Australian quilters' year -- an event which I am yet to attend. But after you come home, I bet it will seem very small to you! Hope you are soon well and truly over the snot!
