I'm going to miss Cecilia

It's hard to believe anything worthwhile can actually come out of this room.

But just before Christmas, I did manage to turn one terrific Able and Game Tea towel(pic from Able and Game on etsy)
into a cushion for Miss 19.

and in the spirit of Christmas and the fact that she is leaving home on the weekend-I did not add "except when you are being a selfish cow!" to the back as I had originally planned.

But you have to know I thunk it !!!

  1. Ahh, I love it, both the cushion and your restraint!

My sewing room is looking much the same as yours. Sadly Cohen has made most of the mess again this time, just fossicking through every draw or pile of stuff, seeking out the most dangerous item he can find and be caught wandering around the house with. Generally caught by his father too, I might add. Which then gets me into trouble...

    :)

  2. There should be a 'like' button on blogs :o) Sounds so familiar. I always used to tell my teenage kids that what goes around comes around and guess what? They have teenage kids! Karma...!!!

  3. Dear Model of Restraint

It’s bloody lovely. Thunking about cushion-back evil is entirely allowable and generally therapeutically recommended and does not, (unless C reads this blog) come back to bite one on one’s butt.

    Signed

I Doubt I Would Have Resisted

  4. Love it! You can have two sewing rooms now too when the other gets too messy. Nice

  5. Very nice...cool way to use a tea towel...much better than that boring drying dishes with it idea...
and for Christmas Jodie gets a spare room with no teenage daughter - wahoo!!! I'm sure you'll miss her though...eventually...in a few decades...
You are a model of restraint...it would have made a unique label...

  6. Oh Jodie, you totally rock!! As a mother of 4 about to become teens, i just think you should do a kit for mothers of teens with all sorts of inspirational embroidery slogans & patterns. Even my husband thought this was pretty brilliant!! Guess what my eldest is arguing with me about - what day it is today!! OMG, ha ha, she programmed her new high school computer with the wrong date or Dr Who time or something!! Love Posie

  7. Ahhhhhhhhh yes..as a mother of an almost 20 year old who finally left home on November 9th (Im seriously considering asking the Prime Minister to make that date a future public holiday in celebration) I hear you sistah!

I think a whole line of those cushions with Jodie-isms would sell like hot cakes.

P.S. I didnt make her return her house key but we did change the locks...it was a damn sight cheaper than moving.

  8. it's good to keep those things under ones breath methinks and say them during a sneeze.

  9. I think you should take the cushion back and put it on before she goes.......it would make a nice little surprise when she is unpacking!

  10. Awww..... like leaving forever leaving? Or leaving home (and coming back about 10 times before the age of 25.... like I did?!) just for a bit?

  11. LOL! That is so funny :) I love the pillow, with or without the added words on the back!

  12. I just bloody love you woman! Especially when you're being a cow!

  13. I love it that your sewing room is a tip just like mine - I'm thinking that maybe if I leave it in a mess, all sorts of wonderful craftiness might result. Oh, right, I'm not you - might have to rethink that one. Best of luck to Miss J and her unusually restrained mother.

  14. You could make her another one

    "I miss you.

    Sometimes."

I'm certain your selfish cow will soon come to realise on which side her bread has been buttered all these years. Soon...ish.

    Model of Restraint indeed.

  17. Big giggle from me.
    Lovely crafting as always!
Was thinking of taking the kids to Sovereign Hill towards the end of the holidays.
Would it make sense to combine with a crafty visit over your way?

  18. What a lovely present. It was so funny to hear what you felt you could have added to the back. Both of my daughters have now left home. One returns as a visitor, the other has her own home not so far away. Both are now good friends and good company. I could not have said that truthfully some years ago.........
    Enjoy the peace.
By the way, I wish my workroom was as tidy as yours............

  19. Nice cushion bad though. I have a small track from the door of my sewing room to the machine and that is it........the rest is creative mess.

  20. Reading your blog is always entertaining, and reading the comments sometimes even more so!! Re the cushion, I'm hearing you! I'm sure I was a dream when I was nineteen... xo

  21. oh gee, mine aren't leaving for a while (they are 8 and 10- so unless they are very very naughty...kidding), anyway, that sounds like a daunting occasion. Hooray for the spirit of Christmas- for restraint and the stuff it allows us to put up with with perhaps a bit more good humour than usual (hmm, whos just got back from visiting...!)

  22. Adult children are awesome--when they're financially independent! Miss 19 is a lucky girl. The pom pom fringe the perfect addition. Doesn't mess equal creative?

  23. Is she taking Cecelia with her?? Don't you find that when you clean up the mess you can no longer find anything?

  24. I adore you Jodie. I thought this very thought as I put my 20yo onto a plane to Melbourne yesterday, then returned to my quiet, peaceful house and enjoyed an entire day with no one telling me what I SHOULD have done or how I SHOULD have done it.

I hope you find yourself with a quiet, peaceful house too. Maybe even quiet enough for you to miss her.

  26. At first I thought you were speaking of my 19 year old granddaughter.
That pillow would be great for her too, she is "princess sleeps a lot" and the whole world revolves around her.

  27. Adorable pillow! Lucky Lovely Girl!

Oh, Mothers of Teenagers always have an unsaid-but-on-the-tip-of-the-tongue commentary, don't they? Guess what--it doesn't stop there either. I mutter under my breath to my 25 year old.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Heh, heh! I was thinking that motto was about you... until you wrote the last bit and THEN I got it!!

    Still, she'll miss you...whatever she says!...so there! :)

Why? Because you are all kinds of lovely.

  29. Where have you been all my life? Just discovered your fantastic blog and I think I'm going to love spending time here, learning from a master mom (my girl is turning 12 and times are scary). Love the tea towel, the cushion and the mutterings. Also fond of messy workspace.

  30. Oh nooooooooooooooo!!
One has flown the coup... lucky there are more to fill the void. What would we do without their teenage angst and ability to push our buttons - LOL.

  31. Why is it that we never dare put the real-life stuff on those pillows? You're so darn funny! You could probably have quite the business putting the stuff that we all think on your goods!

  32. Hmm, my sewing room is looking much like yours.....but I just wish as many amazing things would come out of mine as they do from yours!

  33. Have a Happy New Year Jodie! I look forward to following more of your creative adventures and thanks for always making me smile. x

  36. So it's not just me with a daughter who isn't always sweetness and light. Love the inspiration on your blog, and more often than not you have me laughing out loud. Even my husband appreciated this one.

  37. Excellent..I would have added it!! Sad, she's leaving though...big changes!! Well done on crocheting, used to be a thing I did, but freehand, never a pattern crossed my eyes...mum showed me how to make squares and that's what i did!! Hope the new year's great, love tracey
