This week is Arts week at the day-job. A whole week of Visual and Performing Arts for 500 kids.
Today was workshop day, 22 one hour workshops run four times each.
Crazy huge !

Hows this for awesome, tiny strips of fabric coated in PVA and wound around balloons. When they are completely dry , pop the balloon and they will look spectacular....

Although I am strangely drawn to the one that suffered premature poppage!
(with huge thanks to Emma of Ballarat Patchwork for the fabric offcuts)

Poor thing. Premature poppage is always upsetting but happens more than we realise. I do believe there are medicines available for it now.
Fabulous!!! They look like a big crazy coloured solar system........with the odd mangled meteorite.
Are you often drawn to the prematurely popping ones?
Tell me about your mother.
that looks cool, even the prematurely popped one!
wow, you have liquid PVC? or do you mean PVA like the white liquid glue?
I'm wondering where I can get some of this PVC if you do have it!
at the moment, I feel a bit like that poor premature popped one!
so sad....
Our art teachers did these with the kids earlier in the year but with string. I'd like to try the fabric ones at Christmas time... Imagine all the reds and greens!
my kids would have heaps of fun with this - i'm sure we'd have a heap of premature poppage happening (or maybe i'd just pop off and leave them to the gluey-messy crafting, and think about the cleaning up at another stage).
What a cool-e-o library teacher you are.
An explosion of colour! Have a great arty, crafty week with the smalls.
Ha- what a lot of talk about PVC and premature poppage! YOu lot are heroes for running all those workshops-it tires me thinking about it!
ohh dear!
they look great, makes me want to crack open the glue...
That'd be my dream job - as long as every week was art week!
They'd make really cool bunting, or christmas decorations... woohoo I need to invite the nephews over as an excuse to crack open the pva.
So funny! but they do look great!
How old are the kids? My son starts prep next year.
Oh, a premature popper. Bless.
That'd be me, I feel sorry for the wee one that belongs to. :(
I'm relating to burst balloons.
Yes, well. It's been like that lately!
Major kudos on the marathon workshopping.
What a fabulous idea! I love them all, especially the premature one.
What a fabulous idea! I want to try that! L x
Um. Can I nick that idea? One imminent, rainy, school holiday day when the smalls are having premature poppings of the tantrummed kind?
That is amazing - just so clever!
Good GOD, they are so cool!! Can i be really dumb & ask if they are water balloons or regular size, be nice, it's late, i tired, yawn. I just think this is a brilliant idea to steal for my children. Any tips on how long you have to wait for the PVC to glue - a party trick or dare i tempt it at a sleep over party?? Finally, how much for your late night instructional consultation fee for the ribbon-glue-balloon uninitiated?? Love Posie
Glorious poppage. I think I need to do this with the grandies....at their house!
What a fab idea....and what a nightmare to do all those workshops! I did nine recycling workshops in a day and it near killed me.

Wow! Love this idea! They would make spectacular party decorations!
Me too. I love how all the colors shrink in upon themselves...
You're so funny. And, judging by your comments, it is entirely possible that you have a large following of rather sick readers LOL!
Premature poppage... sound like the sort of thing that would happen to me if I ate too much!
And Thimbleanna, thank you. I am indeed a rather sick reader...who can only be cured with large amounts of booze and chocs!
Fab. So PVA is white glue? Dashing off to check...
I think I might try popping all my balloons prematurely. I love the look of that one. I may have to make garlands of these for my sewing studio!
It's love.
Very cool. Kidlets here have done the same thing here but with yarn scraps not fabric. My daughter would be devastated if hers was the premature popper.
I can see lots of these being made on rainy days, very cute!
Oh wow, how awesome would they look as Christmas ornaments...?? Of course they look awesome just as they are :o)

Oh, Jodie, I want to come and play at your school! Can I, can I, PLEASE? I'll be ever so good - I'll even clean up after myself (and maybe I can have nightmares about premature poppage instead of about my upcoming school book fair...)
Now that's a great idea!
They are so nice even the premature one. I like the colourful fabrics.
These are fantastic. I have done them with my classes using coloured wool and liquid starch but this is more colourful. Love it
Yes, not a big fan of premature anything, but this is strangely appealing.....!
ahhh, premature popping, that's happened to me a couple of times too.
when I was making the little ones pinata I got a little too anxious with the whole drying process & put it near the heater, yep, not so round pinata was born.
♥
Jod's, i think we have all fallen folly to a bit o premature popage from time to time ;)
Oh bugger !
DANG! What happens to the premature popper's piece? How does one rectify a prematurely popped masterpiece?
They all look fab.
I imagine that is what you probably felt like by the end of the day ;-)
Wow, that's nice! Can you imagine it done with selvges? I like the string idea too. Hey, I see a selvage in the prematurely popped one. Cool. Thanks for all the inspiration.
I'd love to see what the finished product looks like- this looks like an AWESOME craft to do with kids- and I hate throwing away all those scraps of fabric.
It sounds like such fun at your school this week! Much more fun than mine-today we have a student free day and we're all off to do Training and Development on the Australian Curriculum in Science!!!YAWN!!!Love the colourful creations premature poppers and all:)
...alrighty then, know exactly what I'm doin' with the half full garbage bag of 'just can't part with them but not good for anything' scraps. You are the best!!
How cute are they?? Christmas themed ones would be a good project for the kidlets. I shall remember that. Thank you!
I am just loving reading all these comments! Too funny, I agree with you all, and Trash, you made me spit on the keyboard with laughter. xx
What a beautiful array of color!
Great project - and so much more fun that the paper mache pigs we used to make at primary school! Love the array of shapes and sizes,
pva, pvc, white glue - please do tell what substance you used. I want to make some orange ones, black ones and glow in the dark ones for Hallowe'en
I expect there were a lot of sticky fingers at the end of that day.
