So I love this idea, little circles of fabric in behind other fabric.... BUT I hate that you can see the clippy clippy bits around the circle on the white fabric.
and then I like the wonky 3 layered idea
So with two layers ? No more clippy clippy look, but to me this is just inviting disaster.I'm lucky enough to sew one layer to another in a straight fashion..... and in the right light you can still see it a bit....
See what I mean by the clippy clippy bit - even with batting and backing it's still obvious.
Not so bad with coloured fabric but IF this was to become a quilt, all this red would make my eyes bleed...

I have no idea about quilting or clippy, clippy bits but the grey grabs me it does. And how on earth do you cut such even circles? Is there a machine that helps?

I can't see the clippy clippy bits you are talking about and so think they all look good. I like the grey and green the best too just to be really unoriginal. I was tempted to say i like another one just to throw a spanner in thw works - but I cannot lie. I love grey.I wear a lot of grey.

Not sure what you mean by the clippy clippy bits as I am not a quilter, is it the fact that you can see the doubled over edges where you have turned the fabric back on itself?

I'm on a circle quilting binge myself right now. Am avoiding clippy clippy bit by doing raw edge applique. Help you any? That way's not as classy as your examples though. BTW my fave of the above is the three layered wonky one. It's ace.

I think I might try this with Dale Fleming's circle technique- you can flip the seam allowance either way. so you wouldn't need to see the clippy parts.
They all grab me. I'm a little surprised at the clippy clippy thing -- I guess it just doesn't bother me. ???
Hi: grey is great, but I'm wondering why you don't applique the circles on top (other than the pieced selvage one) and then no clippy bits?

Clippy clip aka Shadow, is so annoying! The gray looks great. Very modern.
The gray is very soothing - and rather hip.
Depending on how you were to do the final quilting - maybe the clippy white bits would just become part of the texture when you quilted a circle around them through the batting?

Are these all the holes in your lungs?
I'm not sure how you're piecing these in, but you should be able to press the seam allowance towards the circle itself. This actually makes them stand up a bit as well,and would hide all the clipped edges completely. It wouldn't work with the selvedges, too much bulk, but I'd do a sample one and see what it looked like.

You say anal like it's a bad thing. The scrappy I can see underneath deal would drive me mad too. Go with the grey.
I love they grey/green combination. I'm also very keen on the 'selvedge' circles.
One way to deal with the show-through on white is to quilt right along the edge of that white 'shadow' -- this makes it look like you meant it. :) Try it on one of your reject blocks and see what you think.
I, myself, do not like the color white and will go to many lengths not to have to use it in my work. :)

I guess I'm a weirdo because I liked them all. Although, a whole quilt of red would make me a little bonkers after a while.
I vote for one of each in your quilt - plus a few more. When you look at the finished quilt you are the only one in the whole wide world who will notice the clippy places. (It's okay to let it go, Jodie!)

I like the grey a lot. You might even be able to go down a few shades. That's why I have a tough time using white fabrics for my backgrounds too... stuff shows through too easily!

I like the wonky 3-layered effect! But the white with the red circles reminded me of old vinyl singles... sigh! I am truly older than I can lie about now!

but! i LOVE your wonky 3 circles. they are simply fantastic.
LOVE the circles. They look fab, specially with the selvages! Have you considered black, instead of gray or white? How would that do with the clippy, clippy bit? I think the black would really make the circles "POP"

That is a great technique and the grey and green is, as everyone else has said, really lovely.
I love this idea so much - I wanted to make a memory quilt out of some of my little girls outgrown clothes and started a cathedral window...but only did a few pains before I wanted to poke my eyes out. Also, it quickly became apparent that the finished quilt would weigh a tonne. This is a much better idea and I can't wait to give it a try!
