Thinking about elephants again , I got out the gloves (this time) and dyed some gorgeous Doctors flannel to just the right shade of pachyderm grey.
I worked some more on a toy-ish kind of robot. Each different colour fabric represents a different version of the same part so this is a conglomeration of attempts 1,2,3,4,and 5 !!!
I put the book and the fabric in the same spot, and given my dislike of sensible(actual clothes type) sewing that in itself is a pretty good start!
and just so you know, if I were a girl turtle I would so fall in love with this guy.
His name is Ernst and he has that slightly heavy-hearted, wistful little man-turtle thing going on ....and (I'm just saying) its working for me...
in a girl-turtle kind of way of course

ernst reads the existential poets doesn't he?
ReplyDeleteYep, he is bloody cute!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very productive day... but I think it is well and trully time for bed, given that you're imagining your a girl-turtle and looking sideways at Ernst!
ReplyDeleteOh Jodie - Ernst is beautiful and if I were a girl-turtle I would so fight you for him!! Love your work.
ReplyDeletedoes Ernst write poetry in a earnest sort of way?
ReplyDeleteohh so you are going to make a skirt? to actually wear or is the book just a sort of paper or rather fabric weight?
I have some t-shirts to cut up for t-shirt yarn and possibly a t-shirt throw...BABBLE babble babble
If you were the only girl turtle in the world... and Ernst was the only boy turtle...!
ReplyDeleteI reckon he's into Tennyson and Christina Rossetti myself... does the skirty book mean you are going to make a girly turtly for Ernst?
Magda girl turtle perhaps?
I love how you say what is on your mind and don't hold anything back... You're not holding anything back are you? Because that would be a little scary....
ReplyDeleteOh, and I think the turtle is very handsome and poetic and thoughtful looking too.
Ernst is fabulous - he looks very wistful.
ReplyDeleteI just went clothes shopping. UGH! Came home with one top. I'd rather wear skirts but those are even hard to find to fit me and I don't sew clothing! Double ugh!! Well isn't Ernest looks like he's comtemplating the world. I had a stuffed turtle growing up...oh the names we give our critters. I had Tipsy Topsy Turtle. Perhaps a drunk turtle when I was 7?
ReplyDeleteYou ARE going to make Ernst a girl-turtle-friend aren't you? Because, um, I'm not quite sure how to put this really, but er, you might be just a bit too tall and scary for Ernst to return you feelings..........
ReplyDeleteJust saying.
Locket x
Who wouldn't want to give Ernst a big hug!! Hope he finds a friend...
ReplyDeleteErnst is beautiful, he has my heart!
ReplyDeleteDoes Ernst have a jacket with elbow patches tucked away in his wardrobe? I think that would be his attire of choice.
ReplyDeleteoh ernest...be still my beating heart
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous is he...
Loving the flannel so glad you wore gloves this time...
You've been a busy girl today - LOVE your work! - I've been in the garden!
ReplyDeleteAwww, Ernst is too sweet. He's looking out the window waiting for his woman turtle to come home. {Swoon}
ReplyDeleteernst is cute, but he has the unfair advantadge of being a turtle - it is well known that turtles are the cutest of all the cute beings in this world.
ReplyDeleteYour posts make me giggle .... every time!!
ReplyDeleteErnst is very cute turtles can live to be 200 so a little waiting for a friend is OK. I'm putting on my dying glove today and having a play.
ReplyDeleteJust when I think you've created the very cutest creatures (like the hedgehogs) you come up with something even cuter. I LOVE Ernst and I have some green wool I bought at a garage sale. With black squares on it. How perfect is that?? Would you like to trade a bit of green wool for a turtle tutorial??
ReplyDeletelove reading your posts, I love the way your mind works, and how you always seem to have a million things happening at the same time. too cool for school
ReplyDeletethat turtle is just too darn cute!
ReplyDeleteSo you remembered the gloves for the dyeing, well done Jodie. I think Ernst is just admiring the weather outside the window, looking at how gray it is today. He seems to have a lot of admirers already and I am sure you have something in the works for him to have a friend, it doesnt have to be a turtle does it. He could be like Franklin and have a friendly snail for a pal!
ReplyDeleteErnst is adorable, I'm sure there will be a lot if girls standing in line....
ReplyDeleteAs Ernst gazes wistfully out the window into the middle distance how could he not have a bevy of girl-turtles swooning at his feet/flippers?
ReplyDeleteOooh what a sweet little man-turtle he is! He looks like he's waving.
ReplyDeleteOh! Ernst! I love him. Urgh, how are you always sooooo good? Jealous :)
ReplyDeleteErnst is AWESOME!! I love turtles and would love to be his lady turtle!!
ReplyDeleteErnst looks like he's having deep, deep thoughts. I bet he doesn't know himself how cute he really is!
ReplyDeleteThat is a VERY soulful stare on Mister Ernst, no wonder he hooked you in.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like the look of that skirt book. I hope you make something ace with it, even if it is sensible sewing.
my son has an obsession with turtles and I think I may have caught it because your little guy just melts my heart!
ReplyDeleteErnst is gorgeous! He sure pulls at your heartstrings looking so forlorn like that. I just want to give him big hug..in a girl-turtle kind of way of course!
