Can you hear the serenity?

I have been knitting dolly scarves ! yes I know I am not a knitter and I did wreck the first two 'cause they went all kind of tubular on me but Mr Google explained that was because I was knitting plain and purl and for scarves I should just knit plain.

I am counting on Mr Google to remind me how to cast off as well a bit later. (I seem to have forgotten)

I have been doing a tiny bit of needle felting on this flower which is destined to be a prop for Midsummer Nights Dream in a few weeks. It needs three more petals that have to be removable and replaceable.
My stencilling needs another coat (It was not really stencilled). The edges need a bit of work.

So at 1.46 pm on Sunday afternoon, having just delivered the Ric-Rac males to the train to go to Melbourne to watch a football game, and having dropped Miss Teen Ric-Rac off to the Battle of the Bands, I am here soaking up the serenity.

The mobile is on for emergencies but you know what ? with at least 3 or 4 hours to myself, I don't care if the Queen of Sheba comes knocking, I am not answering the door, or answering the phone. I am turning the computer off and I am going to go into my sewing room to bathe....literally bathe in the serenity.

ahhhhhhh.

  10. Why oh why do I keep coming to your blog? Must be a bit of self loathing or something, so I must come here to punish myself...
The hubby is at golf and they baby is having a nap and that is all the serinity I am going to get as the hubby is on antibiotics and the baby is teething with an ear ache... I'm happy just to steal 15 minutes on the computer! See, I'm punishing myself by seeing your lovely crafting and rubbing my nose in your serinity... humf...

Well, I suppose some one should enjoy some.

  11. PS. Cast off. Knit two stiches, then pull the first one over the second one and off the needle so only one stitch remains on the needle. Knit another stitch, pull the stitch that was already on the needle over the just knitted stich so only one remains. Repeat, repeat, repeat...

    Make any sense?

  15. Gasp! Actual Serenity?!! I hope the shock of it won't make you swoon delicately on a chaise longue... or Oberon might send Puck to crush a few drops of that flower so that you fall in love with the first thing you see... a softie!

  18. I have been trying to learn some new techniques in my knitting such as cables and lace and I have found that Mr Youtube can also be very helpful. There are a lot of really good demo videos on there that I have used to learn stuff.

  20. Dolly scarves - what a perfect project to remind myself that knitting is very relaxing and enjoyable. Now I just have to finish the dolly! My week off went out of control, but I sewed the hair on last night. I love your pattern instructions to "go crazy" - much more personal than most patterns. LOL.

  22. congratulations on your dolly scarves.
I think you have heaps of good advice on how to cast off, I have another tip. If you want a neat edge on your knitting, slip the first stitch on every row.

  23. Enjoy while you can eventually they all come home !

  24. My knitting skills are basic - scarves are about it. I'd knitted a little as a child, but a few years ago when I wanted to knit some fancy wool into a scarf, it required an interstate call to Gran to find out how to cast on - and again when I was finished to find out how to cast off! I've had to ring again several times having forgotten how to cast off!

  25. Who is the lucky dolly? My family went to watch the same footy game without me this arvo and left me at home on my own if you don't count the chooks, dog, cat and some chicks to be. Glad to hear you are enjoying the School Hols.
