Destination dressing gown

On the week that your first born leaves their teenage years and hits 20 you need to:

  • get a haircut and colour

  • buy and wear new stylish flattering clothes

  • receive at least 15 disbelieving "Oh my , you have a 20 year old ?" type comments

  • have a rich exciting rewarding week, with people to see and soirees to attend
Do not :

  • have a cold which leads you to sandpapering the end of your nose off , so you look Rudolph all week combined with a skin outbreak of High School Musical proportions

  • have so little sleep that coherent sentences are beyond you

  • wear the same tired clothes to work that you have been wearing for years because you are determined not to buy new clothes till you lose weight.

  • get a cold sore

  • be growing out your hair so you now look like you have scalped an eight year old boy for his lank, hanging dead straight at your ears type hair (only with grey bits)

  • look forward to your dressing gown as a weekend destination

  1. Oh dear! Perhaps a trip to Millrose would put the world right again.

Hope you're feeling on top of things again soon....and you really are too young to have a 20 year old!

  2. Oh my, you have a 20 year old? You must have had kids very young.

There...I tried to help. Hope things are on the improve.

  3. Did you really give birth to your first when you were in year 8 at High School? Wow, amazing!
    What a superwoman!

    Now eat lots of cake.

  4. Chuckle, chuckl, chuckle. This is why I love your blog. I also love the stuffed animals of course, but, you know! :-)

  5. Wait till the week your child turns 21. That's what this is for me. :D My sympathies. lol!

  6. Ha ha-
You could have people looking at you saying "you have a 5 year old"-- implied meaning you can't be young enough to have a five year old.
But anyway, feel better. And, wow you must have been extremely young when you had her.

  7. Oh no! I'm sending huge hugs! Feel better soon! And the dressing gown...not a bad destination from time to time. Snuggle right in and get well.

  8. oh dear!

Hope you feel better soon... (20, eh?)

  9. Hope you feel better soon but at least you don't have a son who says wow you are half a century old! Laugh or cry with me it's your choice!

  10. As someone who has only emerged from her dressing gown in the last hour (ahem... that would make it after midday)I say well-played. Take that dressing gown time and use it well to read cheesy novels and eat whatever is the weightloser's chocolate replacement of choice.

  11. You look fabulous from here dahlink!

    Even RockStars wear dressing gowns.

    Have a hug dear.

I have taken to working in my dressing gown because the studio is FRIGID and it's too cold to get dressed. There's no glamour happening in this neck of the woods either.

The 21st birthday will be infinitely worse and you'll probably have to host an expensive party to boot.

    MWAH!

  13. Well I don't have any kids at all and it's worked for me... sort of. I don't have a dressing gown.

I suggest misbehaviour to show the 20 something that you were better at it and still are. So there!

  14. You didn't mention chocolate and wine..they should definitely be on the list..you know what? I think we needs a new list with the chocolate and the wine and the haircut and the flattery!!!

  15. Okay, that just sucks! You deserve better! Additionally, I hear you about the 'not buying clothes' until I lose weight. I finally broke down and bought some jeans because I STILL haven't lost the weight! :(

    Hope you're better soon...

  16. OMG, you couldn't possibly have a twenty-year-old child--you're so creative, with such a modern sensibility in your designs--are you sure you didn't add that 0 by mistake??? (as in you have a two-year-old)
Remember, you're not getting older, you're getting better! ;-)

  17. OMG, you have a 20-year-old? You look like 20 yourself! Now lay down, take some rest, and drink lots of fluids. Make an appointment at the hairdresser's and by this time next week, you'll be like the phoenix which rose from her ashes.... Take care!

  18. LOL...
Oh, Jodi, I will keep your advice handy as my eldest turns 20 in a few months. Thanks for the voice of experience, I will heed your warning....
I better start lining up hairdressing appt. and clothes shopping expeditions in preparation. Eeep.

  19. You do not have a 20 year old. How is that possible?? :) Better?

  20. Sudafed. Or wine. Or both if you're feeling adventurous. I'm 41 and in the no kids camp. Which is fine. But I had a total stranger last week pat my hand and tell me there'd be the patter of tiny feet soon enough. Glad she was 70 or I might have clobbered her one... Hope you feel better soon. C.x

  21. Well, yes, that first bit contains worthy goals, however: "look forward to your dressing gown as a weekend destination" is more my reality.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ok I am taking your advice on board, this will happen to me in just 2 months, maybe I better start planning now!!!!

  23. Oh my, you have a 20 year old?!!

  24. Swap the dressing gown for a tracksuit and it could be me! My One and Only turned 25 this year, is married and has two sons under 18 months! I still find it hard to believe I'm a grandmother - even when I'm with them!

Hope you are feeling much better very soon.

  25. Hope you are feeling better soon and happy birthday to big kid

    ReplyDelete
  26. Happy Birthday to the boy. Hope you are on the mend soon. There's a glamorous woman inside you - she is just a big bogged down by all you have on and will spring out and suprise everyone soon.

    ReplyDelete
  27. according to my gran, a very wise older lady, you're not old until you attend your first child's 70th birthday party! So you have another 50 years of being young!

and number 3 of the don't do's is exactly what I am wearing!

    ReplyDelete
  28. You're still a child yourself, if you were old you wouldn't even remember the offspring's age.
Is hanging out in your dressing gown bad news?

  29. There is such a market for clothes that look like Chanel but feel like flannel jammies/dressing gowns - and being the selvedge designer Queen maybe you could spearhead just such a project?!? And if it makes you feel any better my 7 year old took a close-up photo of my wrinkles recently and I feel like I could give the saggy baggy elephant a run for his money!!!
Stand tall and be proud that you survived the teenaged years!!!
    Have a happy weekend

  30. Ha!Ha!..that youthful heart emerges still, despite the outer cladding of tiredness and overwork! As a Mum of a 33 year old..how old do you think that makes me feel! I think if I followed your suggestions I should be botoxed to the hilt and get an entirely new wardrobe by his next birthday.

  31. Oh, the dressing gown as destination comment made me laugh so hard! I am like that already and my eldest is only 9. lol.

  32. Murphy's Law really!
    Loved your tags :-)

  33. I told you the family should staple you to the chair to make you rest. See what happens when you ignore me. At least make one of them get you a glass of red wine while you're smooching around in your DG.

  34. You couldn't POSSIBLY have a 20-year-old, my dear!!! (Ahem....mostly because I'm a year or so older than you are!)

Take care and paracetamol, lovey. Hope to see you soon.
    xxx

  35. Hey! I loooove my dressing gown! (What are you saying here?) Anyway, you are so young. I have a 27 year old. Now THAT'S old!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh, my, you have a 20 year old?!

Hope you feel better soon, now go get ready for the next soiree...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Gah! Sending soothing thoughts to your hooter.

Soiree? Not sure I've ever been to one of those. Not sure my manners would be up to it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I shall value your advice.

    PS. Get well soon. ♥

  39. Poor Jodes. I hope you feel better soon. I currently smell like spew and of course it is not my spew that I smell of. Gotta love parenthood!
Were you in the newspaper when you had your son at the ripe old age of ten...? ;0)

  42. Oh Jodie, I hope you feel better soon. The sun will be shining tomorrow - pick some camelias

  43. Wow, that was an interesting picture in my head just now! Thanks for that :)

    My youngest is now 21...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Fabulous post. Even though my youngest is now approaching 30, I so remember those days!

FYI. I just bought BLACK athletic shoes so now when I travel I won't have the complete grandma-wearing-tennies look and embarrass my gorgeous 30 year old daughter on our trip to NYC in the fall. Hopefully. I can't escape my destiny--only now, at my tender (older) age, I just don't care.

    Hope you are feeling better!

  47. Please tell me that the "do not" list is obligatory when you have a 2 and a 3 year old? Otherwise I'm in trouble!

Especially as I'm old enough to have a 25 year old and change...I'm just a late bloomer!
