R.I.P Blog

With this morning set aside for computery stuff  I found myself looking at my blog roll.
I expanded the list and found all the blogs right at the bottom .

Sorted by most recent posts, those are blogs haven't posted for a year or two or even longer. They are not coming back I told myself as I deleted them from my blog roll. I felt a bit sad that some of the blogs had completely disappeared,  removed from the interwebs, just a little broken link remaining.

I could be doing a wrap up post - you know, a montage of last year and I will probably get to it eventually but for now I am holidaying a bit (photos from a trip to Sovereign Hill) and sewing some new crazy ideas that were supposed to be easy-peasy and turned into Oh Will These French |Knots Never End ?

Are you into the whole pick a word for the new year bizzo ? Do you pink Connection and spend the year devoted to family? Do you pink Strength and tackle some of the hard bits of life?
It is not really my thing but I have been pressed by a friend to give it a go - she swears it keeps her on track for the year ahead...
So the Ric Rac word of 2015 is

DIPSTICK

May 2015 be full of dipstickery of the highest order. May we pee our pants laughing at our friends, our fluff-ups and ourselves.

  2. Dipstick! Lol! I had not heard of this word stuff before, I live life as it comes, as long as I can sew, knit or crochet I am happy!

  3. Love it!! Well she said you had to have a word not that it had to be any of those schmaltzy affirmative type ones...dipstick away!!!

  4. When I saw the title of this post I was worried that you were the one closing down your blog. I'd miss your irreverent humour. Dipstick is the perfect antidote to all the pretentious "words" I've read lately.

  5. It's is sad to see old blogs die. I think we're doing well to still be here. I remember when you couldn't even do French knots!

  6. Dipstick. Best word of the year ever!

  7. No word of the year for me, I just take it as it comes too.........and stitch faster as the need arises! I just finished your teeny teapot, such a cute little project.

  8. Vale to all the blogs past..

Onward in the spirit of Dipstick!!!

....which is a VERY useful word, without it, my truck would not go!!

So, whether you are full to the brim, or totally drained, you are invaluable

    : )

  9. Okay... your blog post title just gave me a mini heart-attack thinking that you might have decided to quit blogging! So glad that is not the case and I'll get to read more of your "dipstick" posts in 2015. I don't usually pick a word of the year either but if I had to come up with a word for 2015... I'd pick Stability. Yep... I want stability for the next year.

  10. Don't alarm us like that! Some of us ludites aren't on instagram and twitter and the like and would miss your totally irreverent sense of humour if your blog disappeared into the nether. I still miss Molly Chicken and her blog has been gone for years now! Deliberately not making resolutions this year as every year I make the same ones regarding exercise and being a better friend/parent blah de blah blah so this year I figure if I don't make them I don't break them! Happy New Year!

  11. Dipstick is one of my favourite words and I will have no problem living up to that! Happy New Year Jodie. X

  12. I thought it was you giving up too, giving me a slight panic moment. I often wonder what happens to some of the blogs I used to read and enjoy but now I see you've provided a final resting place for them in a corner of your house, how kind!
I look forward to finding out how you stick to the spirit of 'Dipstick' in the coming year and hope you have a good one.

  13. It never occurred to me that you might be giving the blogging away. I haven't posted for ages, but I haven't given it away. Any minute now I'll post again ;)

  14. :gets out large wet fish and whallops Jodie with it for scary elderly penguins with headlines.:

    Dipstickery it is.

  15. also, blogs get neglected, life happens and they fade away, or folk go off to do something digital whosery, BUT stop (those people) ADVERTISING YOUR BLOG ADDRESS. it just makes you look like an idiot when people click on the link and find your lunch from 2011.

I think my word of every year is Rant, or Bad-tempered....

  16. it's too early, both those comments have major spelung misteekz

  17. I don't pick a word and I try to avoid resolutions. The whole thing just sets me up for disappointment when I am not "courageous" even for the New Year hangover and "adventurous" goes out the window with the start of the new school year routine.

But I do like the word dipstick. That lends itself to a year of not taking oneself too seriously. I could do that.

  18. I heart you hard you brilliant woman. You chose the best word in the history of New Year Words.

Deep breath - the big thing reveal is just days away. I am bedraggled but hopeful.

You are, as ever, a genius in the way of the felt and lend it charisma that seems magical. I have no idea how you do it but I'm bloody grateful that you do. I keep getting 'you-know-who' out of a bag and looking at them and it cheers the late nights tinkering with photos and worrying about the whole shebang.

You're such a good egg that you need an actual real life golden egg as a thankyou. I'm off to look for a golden goose

  19. That is such a wonderful word. I think it is the most realistic and achievable word I have read for 2015.

  20. You are effing awesome!!
I do hope I bump into you someday soon it's been far too long.
    Happy new year chick!! xxx

  21. I suck at resolutions so setting myself up for failure just seems mean. Instead I just make lists on my tiny white board and when I complete something I wipe it off and put something new on. Highly sophisticated, goal-oriented patented tracking system. If I picked a word, I'd forget it in a couple of days time anyway! I do love your approach and will think of you every time I check my oil, or encounter a human form in line at the post office.

  22. I LOVE this blog, it is amazing!!!

  23. That word brings back happy memories of the 1980's and Dukes of Hazzard!

  24. Brilliant word... I quite fancy BONKERS myself!

  25. Fantabulous word for 2015, already chuckling away :) Stopped choosing a word or resolution this year- after two goes for two years where all I seemed to do contrarily is the exact opposite of them, and I am certain various deities got into the act conjuring challenges and obstacles out of very thin air specifically to irk, just cos I gave them a very clear somewhere to start. So I am ignoring 2015, and doing this day, then when it ends, I'll start again, with well, this day, you get the idea. Even so I bang the drums for much quality dipstickery to be present. Love your mountainous french knot project

  26. Blog death is a serious issue. Dipstickery is not, thankfully! Thanks for the little joys and big guffaws on my visits to your blog and bookface. I'm already weary of word choosing since I'm not a Type A personality and never live up to expectations, resolution wise. I believe I did choose a word last year and it was focus--insert belly laugh here. French knots are fantastic, love the coffin photos.

  27. Your IG post popped up in my feed yesterday and I guffawed out loud.
    My husband didn't get it.

  28. Dipstickery. I love your wish for 2015 too. I think I'll revive the one word that I chose on the only other year that I've chosen a word. Chocolate. May 2015 be FULL of chocolate. Because, without chocolate, dipstickery would be a whole lot less fun.

(And don't start on defunct blogs. So, so sad....)

  29. It seems as though my blog didn't make it back into your blog roll. Oh well it has been about 9 months since my last post...prettyimportant stuff going on though for me.
Dipstick..I have been regularly calling my children dipsticks for many a year. Which is probably not a bad thing!

  30. Dipstick, so funny, so perfect...have a wonderful year xx

  31. Love it! Haven't heard "Dipstick" used much since the 80's - brings back memories! Definitely due for a re launch!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I feel a bit sad when blogs I used to read with a passion no longer post, and I wonder what is happening with the blogger, but then I think my life is sad if I'm worrying about that! Dipstick gets used quite a bit around here, usually using an Alf Stewart accent - maybe it's an Australian thing?

  33. A blog friend and I were talking recently about our blogging (or lack there of) and she said "does anyone still blog anymore?" I know there are some of us that still do, but 9 years on, and with the advent of instagram (and having a real job these days) it has definitely gone by the wayside a bit. I really miss some of the blogs I used to read and the friendships (albeit online) with those people that I used to have, and I become insanely happy with I accidentally find those people on instagram.

  34. I'm going to take your excellent advice, Jod and look forward to a 2015 full of Dipstickery!

Have a good one missus xxx

  35. Hahahaha! I love your word of the year. It's a good thing to be able to laugh at yourself and your flub ups. Here's to a good year of chuckles! :)
