eight-teen (s.o.b)

q1      Wearing the coat to protect you all from the arse-crack
q2
A thrown-together, no pattern quiltq9

Hand quilted with hundreds of teeny tiny stitches, some straight, some not
q10
Every stitch a labour of love for the birthday, and all joining to create a giant yet subtle piece of text across the quilt.q8
“Son of a bitch”
q6
‘cause there is something in that for both of us.

  7. I thought it was stuck in that tree, that would have been SOB!
Happy Birthday Ric-rac Jr, hard to believe you have a son that old!

  8. Happy Birthday to the SOB - just love that Aussie sense of humour.

I have one soon to be 18 and am only just finishing the piecing. I'm afraid there won't be time for teeny tiny stitches done by hand - mine will be stitches done by machine but still with love and still not all straight! I hope it ends up looking as good as the SOB's one.

  11. Was this practice for his job waving placards on street corners?

  12. Looks awesome. I knew what s.o.b. would stand for but seeing it next the 18 yr old bit I thought it might also be you sobbing at the relentless growing up. Happy Birthday to your boy and I love the quilt. I'd also love to see a close up of your hand quilting. I love the look of hand quilting and have been contemplating some myself (one of these years) did you enjoy it?

There have been plenty of tears - mostly mine! Maybe a SOB, is easier than a DOB!

  20. Am I the only one who thinks that the way your son is treating his quilt shows a lack of respect for the work you have put into it.I would be hurt and probably angry too! Or am I just out of touch with the behaviour of young men these days?

  21. So now he's 18 does that make you old/older? Happy Birthday to your boy and love the quilt and the humour that goes with it.

  22. Brilliant Jodie and well done on raising and 18 yr old.

  23. Hi Jodie, it is horrible to wake up in the morning and find you no longer have children but are sharing your space with adults. It is a scary prospect! How can one all of a sudden be old enough to have an adult child? So Not Fair.
Please tell him to be nice to all your hardwork. He's had his fun, now he needs to protect an heirloom.
Cheers (and congratulations to you and Mr RicRac on surviving it all thus far).

  35. So I've seen my fair share of quilt posts. And quilt pictures. And quilt photoshoots. And I've written them and photographed them and Photoshopped them. And this is by far, BY FAR my most favorite one ever. Seriously. This is perfect and I love it. Happy Birthday Mr. 18. I hope he knows how unbelievably awesome his mother is. He couldn't be a s.o.b. without her ;)
