opinions again

Once again my friend Baxter has made it to the front of the queue. If you haven't met Baxter , you might want to pop up there under the header and read his story.

This afternoon (after a trip to the dentist) I am finally going to decide what, if anything, Baxter should wear when he becomes a pattern. I kind of like him in his natural hedgehog state but maybe that's a bit too simple?

The floofy hat and apron ? the tuxedo bib ? something else entirely?Got an opinion, please weigh in, cast your vote, have your say - lest it be another 12 months before the poor man sees the light of day.

maybe, just maybe I am a little bit too attached to my hairy little friend and I am over thinking things (as usual).

  1. I like au natural maybe with a bonus quilt pattern.

  2. Oh seeing Baxter always makes me smile. While he is adorable naked, I think the apron and chef hat is just adorable for when he entertains his new friend,

  3. Everything? Or is that greedy? Ok, yes it's greedy. I like the idea of a hedgehog in a tuxedo bib. He is pretty classy after all. (ps, hope dentist wasn't too awful)

  4. Gosh he is so cute! I like him natural, but love the option of dress up :)

    ReplyDelete
  5. There's nothing quite as nice as a naked hedgehog but he does need a pair of lace up boots for heavy gardening.

  6. Baxter could use some red and white striped PJ pants and maybe a coordinating gown for Lou. :-) The tuxedo bib, apron and chef's hat are a must along with the little quilt. He is quite a handsome fellow and Lou is quite sweet too.

  7. I think a night cap a la wee Willy wonky and his little quilt would be fabbo. He looks so cozy :-)

    ReplyDelete
  8. I like him in the nude! And I always thought Lou was a bloke? Am I wrong?

  9. I love Baxter and I am very excited to hear that his pattern will be coming out soon.
I would love the pattern to include his chef hat, apron, quilt, hair wrap for the bath and the outdoor (mug)rug.
However, if it is a choice between Baxter bare or no Baxter I am voting Baxter bare.
I am happy to pattern test for you! ;)

  10. Red and white polka dot PJs for night-time and denim overalls and a t shirt for blokey daytime activities (what DO hedgehogs get up to in the daytime anyway?)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh this is easy. Baxter needs nothing more than a really cute pair of bathing trunks. I am assuming that Baxter is a surfer...am I correct? He is seriously cute. Can't wait for the pattern.

  12. I went back and read Baxters heartwarming story. What a lucky little fellow. I can see him in a rough vest though I am not sure how that would go with his waxed spines. Cherrie

  13. Oh I do just adore Baxtor! well, I think I like him just as he is. People can always make thier own clothes, ?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Just as he is would be grand. How about some wellies and a pair of overalls - I believe those little fellows hang about in the garden a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Love Baxter. I think he looks great just as he is - but I would also love to see him in his apron and chef's hat.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Baxter is a High Class Hedgehog, therefore the tuxedo bib seems appropriate, maybe with his initials...

    ReplyDelete
  17. If budgie smugglers aren't the look you are hoping for, I can see him in Docs, a fedora and a great vintage shirt.

Hmmm. Maybe al la naturel would be easier. He'd be cute in anything!

  18. Ooohhhh, I'm seeing him in a little red waistcoat and some wire-rimmed glasses. Perhaps one of train-driver style caps as well? And the waistcoat not bright red, maybe a deep cherry red. But of course, he is sweet in his hairy birthday suit!

  19. Nude with just a tool belt (tiny hammer, tape measure etc)! The waistcoat is a nice idea too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I am a big fan of dear Baxter :-)
I was going to say shorts as well as his apron and hat, but I prefer the idea of striped flannel pjs!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeh, I was thinking little vest or waistcoat too. A la Humphery B. Bear. But without the top hat. I love Baxter.

    xx

    ReplyDelete
  22. Loincloth? Oh, OH, OH! I got it! Robot undies!

    ReplyDelete
  23. (None of which fit into his story at all.... but seriously, Baxter could totally pull off robot undies.)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bathers and beach towel, the old fashion ones with a cap. Well it will be nearly summer soon.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like Baxter ala naturale too Jodie... how about just a cute Baxtery bow tie?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I sat here and thought and thought about different outfits for Mr Baxter, and I can only imagine him in overalls!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I see baxter in stripy pyjamas, reading the paper and munching on a croissant..

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love him in the flesh!! but the thought of a tuxedo bib for evenings out or for during a whirl around the ballroom floor is simply sublime .. as well as a cheeky pair of y fronts!

  29. Oh too much choice! I think you should bring out a pattern of Baxter 'au naturel' and then a separate pattern of clothes/additional accessories. I'm not asking too much am I??? :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I just love Baxter "in the raw" as they say but he would look very handsome in a smart vest, perhaps also with a watch and fob.

    ReplyDelete
  31. A karate outfit?

Just trying to suggest something no one else had said. x

    ReplyDelete
  32. i think nude dude and we can make a wee quilt like you have in one of the pics..he is so sweet......

    ReplyDelete
  33. I realised that I just HAD to go back and read the story so that the comments made some sort of sense. Well, at least most of them did! I'm just waiting for the little baby toothbrushes to get added to the epilogue... and some gorgeous little mini naked hedgehog patterns. (Lou is quite obviously female).

    ReplyDelete
  34. OH...I'm with the togs too...but not tony abbots budgie smugglers!! xx

    ReplyDelete
  35. Option 1 Make 2 patterns. One for Baxter and one for all his stuff.

Option 2 decide which Baxter picture you like best for the front cover and include whatever sewn accessories are in that picture to be included in the pattern.

Now get on with it ;-)

Word: regspet. This means you have to make a Reg and Reg has a pet.

    ReplyDelete
  36. If I had to choose, it would be the chef's hat and apron.

Maybe you should go with which-ever is simplest, and then release a Baxter accessories kit at a later date.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Did you forget? I am shattered...I thought he was getting a KILT! Please!

OK, well I do like some of the other suggestions; PJ's, tux bib. But he is an ENGLISH hedgehog, so tweed would also be appropriate...and vests are easy, so thats my other suggestion.
    Happy quilting, Sue SA.

  38. What a sweetie, such a handsome little hedgehog! I do like him as he is though dress-up is always fun! How about a pair of dungarees? x

    ReplyDelete
  39. Seriously!

    Embroidered undies!

With a competition for the most suitable slogan.

I thought you were bringing them out for ALL the toys!

(And I always thought Lou was a boy too, as in a friend or buddy, until someone suggested that Lou was a girl and/or a 'partner'. Hmmm - we all see the wworld in different ways I guess).

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh yes! We love Baxter. I think he is a joy au natural, although I think if he lived with me I might knit him up a little country style stripy vest. I do think clothing him should be left to our imaginations.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love Baxter naturally but think he would lovely with a waistcoat and a fob watch - a bit like one of the characters from the 80's english show the wombles. A little bit of character and elegance.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hmmm for some reason I think that Baxter needs some overalls and a swag 'ala Huckleberry Baxter.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Stubbies and blue singlet? Or is that too blokey.... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think Baxter has an adult-and-child feeling as a construction project. Baxter himself needs to be made by someone with some experience sewing, but it would be nice to have some learn-to-sew type accessories AND cut-and-assemble patterns for some paper accessories as well.

Perhaps a carrying case? When I make my Baxter, I intend to take him EVERYWHERE.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I have so missed these stories....

    ReplyDelete
  46. I second the nightcap and quilt idea!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like the idea of accessories rather than clothing. Baxter sort of speaks for himself, so all he needs is the occasional prop.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I like the waistcoat idea - I could just see him in burgundy velvet. Templates for his paper accessories would also be fab! Lucy xx

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hmm...I like his red striped bandana for a bare minimal look. But I do like a optional accessories - chef hat, apron, pillow, blanket...

    ReplyDelete
  50. I vote for the chef hat and apron!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think with all that hair he's a bit of a hippie. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. If these comments haven't confused you even more you are doing well!!! I like him hairy and natural but there are some good ideas floating around, think you may need to make him a suitcase to hold his wardrobe!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Nude! I think he should come with the quilt pattern. Ooh bow about a-la-carte options; nude Baxter with lots of outfits to choose from. You could release new patterns every few mobths.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Nude is so cute, but if you want to add osmehting, I would go with a waistcoat :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Nude is good. Tho a long, oversize tie might work. Love his jar of spine wax! xo

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm with Cathy, please leave him nudey! A collar with tie would be great and maybe a hat - he is a stylish fellow, after all.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have to say, Baster is one of my all time favorites of yours! And that's saying someing, comsidering he comes from a family of amazing creations! I love all of his little outfits, but I'm partial to his little tuxedo shirt, and Lou's hat from the beach scene (and his bed set, it's just adorable!)

    ReplyDelete
  58. I love him - He needs some Pjs and a little quilt!

    Love your blog

  59. Baxter totally rocks his chef's hat and apron and I love his wee quilt. He is one suave hedgie.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I see you've been quilting again!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Keep him au naturel and then have another line of patterns for his accessories - chef, dentist, road worker, engineer etc
    Love ya work Jodie!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I can see the cute little fella in a pair of overalls.....with a red and white kerchief hanging out the back pocket..

    ReplyDelete
  63. BAXTER!!! yeah, does that mean he is back?? Loved your story boards!! Maybe he is a woodsman? Flat cap welly boots? Barber jacket? Or maybe is he a fisherman?? It seems like he ought to have a profession-- oh, fireman!! =)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Awwww, Baxter sleeps in the buff! What if he gets an urgent phone call in the middle of the night??!!

Will he forget to put some trouser on?? Will he jump in his car without thinking because a friend needs his help??!! URGENTLY??!! It could be 'awkward'....

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think that a vest would be cute. I do like the apron and the tuxedo bib. You don't want to have to much to cover up his lovely "hair".. But I feel like he might like to cover up once in a while.. He is very adorable though! Oh, what about a driving cap?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Aaah! I remember when the Baxter story was running and I couldn't wait to read the next instalment.
I agree with some of the others that, you should do the main pattern naked and then, separately, another pattern for the clothes and accessories so then people would have the option of leaving him furred and spined only, designing their own clothes for him or buying another pattern from you for all the extras.
However..... if I really, really have to choose just one outfit I'd say the chef. I see him with his own cooking programme and he could rival Nigella and Jamie for cute and sexy.

    ReplyDelete
  67. He is so cute!

    Greetings,

    Beertje Zonn

    ReplyDelete
  68. I agree with just giving him a bow tie. He's fab enough and clothes would get shredded on those spines.

Tho' Mrs Tiggy Winkle had rather a lot on, but then she was a lady and very modest...and late Victorian too!

Baxter au naturel avec bow tie.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Don't dress Baxter. It's like dressing a dog... Add a cute little quilt to it, like he is sleeping on and can play on. A little hat might be cute, but please not cloths. Please...

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think all Baxter could need would be a type of bushie's hat and a pole with a hankerchief tied on the end. All of his wordly possessions could go in there. He looks like a bit of a wanderer to me....

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'd like to see him in a little red vest..but I'm not sure where his spines would tuck in without making him into a hunchback, therefore maybe he is better bare.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Let him be nude and comfortable!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I love him in his birthday suit ♥

    ReplyDelete
  74. Overall ? That would be and practical for a busy guy like baxter. :)
