Sue, who won a pattern here on the blog has already whipped up her own sweet Sally. (and is planning few more)I just love the bow- what a great idea! The gorgeous Minx, daughter of Moogsmum made a spotty Smith.
Isn't he fabulous?. Love the idea of the spots. I was so excited to see these and super excited to get the email from Minx telling me how much she liked the pattern and she also dobbed her mum in for a bit of swearing too.
I managed to stuff these guys and add their faces during couch time this week. They come together pretty quickly and I am thinking that these are going to be my new go-to gift for a while. I have to tell you I am secretly loving myself to death over these patterns, I am just so pleased that they work and that people like them and almost every fabric I look at is begging to made into a new dog.
This week in amongst the chaos I am going to make a couple of Gulliver's - these guys are about 27 inches long and take a bit of stuffing. If you would like to win a Gulliver pattern just leave a comment. Tell me what your go-to handmade gift is at the moment. Feel free to leave a linky so other people can check it out to!
(Off to the hardware shop-one step closer to the screen printing guys....)
I love them all! Honestly, I don't have a go-to gift at the moment. Just sort of in between things, trying to find some motivation.
ReplyDeleteThey are all great patterns, as shown by the irresistable draw to fabric even the assembled ones demonstrate! You should be proud and pleased--glad you are.
ReplyDeleteI have no go-to handmade gift, though I do seem to give away a lot of quilts!!! I'm making one now for a co-worker. Gulliver just tickles my funnybone and makes me smile.
Gah....LOVE the patterns. My go to present has been a lap quilt/throw made in a disappearing nine patch. I've made a bunch this summer for bdays, love gifts, and Christmas prep.
ReplyDeleteHi Jodie
ReplyDeleteI've been making Dala Horses which you can see on my blog and there's a pattern to download if anyone is interested in making them. Warning my patterns are not in the same category as Jodie's but it works and if you like embroidery you might enjoy making one.
Mr Spotty dog my favourite.
cheers
I would have to say the go to gift is the koolaid bags I make from all the left over juice pouches my kids drink! They make great totes for wet bathing suits and beach shoes..
ReplyDeleteI love the dogs...and the gator! My go-to gift, depending on the person is either socks or potholders but I am also considering mug rugs.
ReplyDeleteMy handmade go to gift is a good old fabric box! Who can say no to a fabric vessel!
ReplyDeleteOh I love making clutches gifts. Made a raw silk and lace one for my mum for mothers day from leftover fabric for a bridesmaid dress my sister had made. Now she wants one!
ReplyDeleteFavourite clutch/bag patterns would be by Keyka Lou.
Love Softies and the dogs are so cute. My little girl would love using a pink one as a pillow!
can't wait to see the result
ReplyDeleteI love when a crafter can express such pride in something they've designed, especially when it's also giving so many other people joy!
ReplyDeleteMy go-to gift this year is the Pretty Ditty Apron pattern. It's great because it includes sizes from two years to large adult and is a great opportunity to mix & match fabrics to suit the recipient's personality. http://www.kelanifabric.com.au/index.php?PCID=14533&PSO=236&PSID=JC303PD&PSV=Primary&CDO=
hmmm my sewing mojo has temporarily left the building so my go to gift at the moment comes from a shop!!
ReplyDeletebut Gulliver is pretty cute......he might help me out!
I have loads of friends who are having children at the moment and my go to gift is best described as a fabric tissue toy. I sew a heap of fabric strips together, then put them into a round container with a hole in the top. The children can pull the fabric out and then push it back in to start again. Kids love to pull and seem to think this is a great gift and it uses up scrap fabric quickly.
ReplyDeleteThose spots are fab. Loving yourself to death ..... good for you!
ReplyDeleteThey're just gorgeous!! I know exactly what you mean about go-to-gifts - I use ribbon embroidered cards as 'extra special' gift cards for my loved ones, especially when gifting a lotto ticket or gift voucher which screams for something a bit more personal! Handmade gifts are so special - whoever is gifted your lovely softies are very lucky loved ones indeed!!
ReplyDeleteMy go to kids handmade birthday gift is Lisa from The Red Thread's Ooshkas http://theredthread.com.au/theredthread/ooshka_babushka,_softie,_doll,_sewing_pattern_kit.html. Pretty much every girl in Charlotte's class has one now I'm getting ready for round two of kindergarten parties when Lucy gets there next year.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm heavily into crochet at the moment, getting ready for the winter fairs, so I'm going to be making lots of hats and scarves out of my left over wool..this kind of thing..http://www.etsy.com/people/BellaMariesboutique?ref=ls_profile (link is to shop not to hats, but it is the kind of thing I make)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE them Jodie and I soooooo love the idea of a simple pattern. My go-to handmade gift is a reversible easy to make tote but I have to admit I haven't been able to "go to" one for quite a while now!!! I really must get back into sewing xx
ReplyDeleteWow they are fabulous! I think I may have to pop into Draper's and have a peek at your patterns. I have to say that the spotty one is my absolute favourite!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of cuties!
ReplyDeleteI am whipping up a lot of ribbon key fobs for party favours at the moment. Great for the kids' backpacks.
What cute puppies! I love the croc!
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a go-to gift, I tend to make as needed. Aprons are great though, I made 3 for my sons kindy teachers and they were a hit!
love your patterns, my friend is a crocodile lover and I would love to make her a gulliver for her new home.
ReplyDeleteI saw your patterns for sale in the shop in Ballan last weekend when I was nearby for a retreat.... was exciting seeing them there :)
I love them all ! Fantastic design , congratulations ! My go to gift at the moment is fabric covered notebooks . The tutorial is on my blog and I have made quite a few , yes lots and lots , too easy .
ReplyDeleteThat dalmatian-esk spotty dog is devine! And Gulliver would be perfect as a go-to for all the boys arriving in our family over the next 6 months! I currently find my go-to gift is a colour-matched pencil roll - but they are really time consuming and after having made 12+ of these I'm a bit over them by now!
ReplyDeletespotty Smith is so cute
ReplyDeleteYour dogs are so gorgeous, wish I could be making one of them right now for my daughter who lives away, she loves dogs and I often send a little gift in her care package. I am actually still making her 21st birthday quilt though, which is taking me some time with the applique.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I don't have a go to gift so this would be great.
ReplyDeleteI love your animals. They always make me smile.
ReplyDeleteNo go to gift here now. In the past I've made quilts and other crafty things but I'm in a slump now.
Ha ha! A no brainer..cushions obviously, with the occasional apron thrown in! I have just sent off two cushions to a couple today for a wedding present, whose wedding my son attended today. PS..I do like Gulliver, but I would prefer a dog?? Is that a possibility??
ReplyDeleteWhile I do adore these little guys, I am giddy with excitement about your screen printing adventures. Will you please, please share your process with us? And the making of your own screen printer? I have wanted to learn screen printing forever, but at the moment we don't have enough spare cash to rub two coins together. And you explain things SO well. Oh and my go to pressie (for the zillions of kids birthday parties my kids go to every year) is usually a gift voucher from the local independent book store - that way I support them and get kids to read.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from the Amish community of Lebanon county. Have a great weekend folks. Richard from Amish Stories.
ReplyDeleteI love the doggies, but the alligator is REALLY special! My go-to gift is a fish pillow- perfect for a baby or 2 for a newly married couple :-)
ReplyDeleteI love all the animals, so cute!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it counts as a go-to gift but the only sewing related gift giving I'm doing right now is to make a little button down shirt for my nephew who is turning three next week. The fabric has cars on it. I'm using the Kai's shirt pattern from Heather Ross's Weekend Sewing book.
I love the croc! It's so cute with it's little birthday hat. These days my go to handmade gift for kids is a custom cooking apron with kid size cooking implements tucked in the pocket and a jar of brownie/bar baking mix.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a go to gift I try to make a personalized gift for each person:)
ReplyDeleteThey all look wonderful! I don't have a go-to-gift at the moment - things are a bit stagnant on the creative front here but I hope to rectify that before too long. Locket xx
ReplyDeleteYou should be very excited Jodie - it's a great pattern and we had so much fun making Spot Smith!
ReplyDeleteI love Gulliver, especially the way he's hugging that branch :o)
My go to gifts for now seem to be appliqued bags for Minx's friends. Made one today and filled it with bad karma as the recipient has been completely horrible to my sweet girl this year ...grrr...brings out the mother lion in me!
I can't wait to see the screen printing - I agree with a previous commenter and would love to see the whole process. No pressure ;o)
xxx
Hmmm my go to gift is either cushion or a rattle or a wonky quilt at the moment... I love these, love love love the sausage dog and love the party hat on the dinosaur. beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteLove these patterns! My go-to gift at the moment is travel (for gals) is a travel kit with eye mask, small zippered pouch, luggage tags and passport cover - I'm thinking Gulliver would be awesome new go-to!
ReplyDeleteI will checking out my fav patchwork store for a smith or sally pattern.
ReplyDeleteMy go-to handmade gift at the moment is calico rabbit I make with baggy shorts. The lining of the ears match the shorts. At 26 inches they are perfect for kids to drag around.
As always I love your work :-)
OOOh!! They are all so great. My go to gift would have to be zippy coin purses.
ReplyDeleteGreat patterns! My go-to gift is usually a bag of some sort, it all depends on how much time I have and how much of an effort I want to put into it!
ReplyDeleteI rarely hand-make gifts; my family don't appreciate the effort!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting patiently for the reclining seal pattern!
I've been making the no-tie scarf from Oliver + S's book, Little Things to Make. I've skipped the fringe and just embroidered the ends of them. There's nothing better for kids than clothing that doesn't easily fall off and get lost, and they whip up FAST!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win Gulliver and make him with my girls.
i didnt think your stuff could get cooler but somehow it did! go to things - at present is dummy clips with cool ribbon from earthgirl. x
ReplyDeleteI just made a cute star pincushion in 1.5 hours this pm - think this will be my go to now pressie. Would also be a cute Christmas decoration if you are thinking that far ahead
ReplyDeletehttp://mrsssewandsow.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-new-pincushion.html
I'm loving that spotty dog - too cute.
ReplyDeleteMy current go to gift is gadget pouches - I made a number of them last month for Family birthday season.
Love Love Love the new pattern, my children are very Sausage dog focused at the moment, so perfect timing for us. My favourite go to gift is a Russian Doll Softie, perfect for new borns and their Mummies at that special Mummy time.

Lots and lots of baby bibs! But if I had teh Gulliver patters I forsee lots and lots of Gullivers!!!
ReplyDelete...Oh my, that spotted one is just too cute! Actually, I love 'em all! :o)
ReplyDelete...My go to gift is handmade throw pillows. It depends on the person if I go folky, primitive or do a play on fabrics and keep it simple. Never fails to please. ;o)
...Thanks for the giveaway!
...Blessings :o)
Cute dogs, especially the spots and checks. My go to present (babies) is a fabric cube I make with novelty prints (usually animals) and a bunny rug made from flannel that I got from Barri Sue Gaudets book Quilt a Gift. Happy screen printing, Sue SA
ReplyDeleteI just adore these patterns and my friend would love a Gulliver for her new baby boy. My Go to gift is a tote bag or cosmetic bag. For kids it is usually some kind of softie.
ReplyDeleteThey are all very cute!!
ReplyDeleteMy go-to sewed gift is a pencil roll - coloured pencils & colouring book for kids, nice pens and a cute journal or notepad for the big people.
Thanks for your give-away!
Hayley
Minx's Smith is ace. He reminds me of Harry the dalmation who lives across the road from us. He's a little old and a bit wobbly but such good company.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Lily is still put to bed religiously each night with a menagerie that includes a guinea pig, an extensive collection of monkeys and a ballerina mouse. She is blissfully happy and currently does not need her egg cosy hat because it is quite warm. Sometimes she gets to ride on a bus made of wooden blocks.
At the moment I am whipping up apple cosies as they are quick and something a bit different
ReplyDeletei love it ALL!
