to make me think I can take on the world.
Yesterday I decided enough was enough and the "cardboard Box" filing system. This is where I keep all the pattern components - a total disaster.
So a bit of D.I.Y later
and now I have a metal wrack thingo with sliding out drawers. All I need to do is make some little labels for the front of the drawers and I am organised. This fitted perfectly inside the cupboard, between the tubs and under the hanging rail in the sewing room cupboard.
Huzzah !
How good does the right container feel? Is it just me - I get endless pleasure from containers and boxes and packaging.......
People like me keep places like Ikea in business. I firmly believe that every new container is going to lead me to an ikea-organised minimalist life, that it will be the answer to my hoarding cluttering ways.
So with one small part of my life completely and utterly organised and two weeks holidays ahead of me, I have been list writing this morning and right now I am heading into today ready to whack it with a big stick!
I hope yours is a "big stick" kind of day too!
I at first thought you were going to take to the mannequin with a big stick! Glad to see the error of my ways. I too love the IKEA dream, but are more so living the bag lady reality!
ReplyDeleteI'm an IKEA tragic!
ReplyDeleteGosh I always think a new fan-dangled storage system is going to solve my mess, but alas it never seems to be the way! Hope this system works for you. I'm in the middle of re-organising too - sometimes I just feel like I'm shuffling things from one area to another then back again lol
ReplyDeleteI love storage ideas and containers. I have a big thing for containers, whcih is good. I just got diagnosed with Coeliacs and have to have EVERYTHING compartmentalised!!! Im not liking it so much now that it's absolutely critical!!
ReplyDeletePhwwoaaar - nice rack!
ReplyDeleteI got enthused and wrote my "50 bazillionty things to do in a two week holiday" list yesterday. I did not write "get organised" on the list, although I fear it needs to be done. I should use you as my role-model...
ReplyDeletethe poor girl does need a repair doesn't she!
ReplyDeletegoodness knows whats going to happen over the holidays now........look out sewing room.......
ReplyDeleteIf I make you a cuppa will you bring your big stick here ?
ReplyDeleteI am what I chose to call "artistically messy" but when the mess gets to me, I can't stop cleaning. Love little containers, big containers, square containers, rectangular containers. They make the world a better place. And I get how you feel. Last week my biggest joy came from organising my ribbon box by winding ribbons around plastic tags. Ridiculous amounts of joy.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, today is so not a big-stick day here... but I hope the big-stick keeps you going through your holidays, and can't wait to see what you have to show for it!
ReplyDelete'Plans and answers' is the propaganda I like to sprout around here. I just want a life full of plans and answers.
ReplyDeleteContainers are the physical manifestation of plans and answers I think. They will make everything better.
I suspect that organisation and tidiness may come with a maid rather than an Ikea storage system. Ah.... I can but dream. Good luck with your big stick day. I'll be spending mine drinking Lemsip and admiring other people's organisation skills.
ReplyDeleteJodie Ric-Rac : Crafter Extraordinaire and a Whiz with an Allen Key.
ReplyDeleteVery Nice Ms. Ric Rac! Like you, I love to be organized. Too bad I'm not though!
ReplyDeleteStorage is a constant issue in this house, I just wish we had an Ikea in Tasmania!!!
ReplyDeleteAn organised work room, a 'to do' list and a big stick... sounds like you are a woman on a mission Jodie.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the holidays.
Oooh I lurve a bit of organisation too. Have a great holiday with the stick. Nic
ReplyDeleteEvery school holidays I say I am going to de-clutter....my husband thinks I am delusional as it is never going to happen :-)
ReplyDeleteI too love storage and think it will make my house organised??? I just invested in some deep tubs that fit inside my wardrobe and have filled them will lots of balls of wool.
Still no method to the storage but some of it is now out of sight!
i am with you all the way! Enjoy your two weeks-we still have this week left to go!
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling of finding the right container that's going to change my life... sadly it never seems to work.
ReplyDeleteI buy boxes. I put stuff in the boxes. I do not label the boxes. I buy another box (mostly the pretty laminated paper kind) and repeat. I put one box on top of another box. Pretty pile of boxes.
ReplyDeleteTHEN I get piles. Of stuff (usually fabric and patterns) and put that on top of the boxes.
I know I have some ...insert essential craft/sewing item here ... where is it?
In one of those boxes.
So you have to depile and repile and was it in there? No, it was in the overflow drawers at the top of the stairs.
Your mannequin looks like she has led a louche but very exciting life!
Have fun whacking things with your big stick.
Cheers,
AJ
Hi Jodie
ReplyDeleteIkea (sad but true) is a dream destination when I am in organise mode... something I love! It feels good to get it all sorted and know where to find things. Funnily enough, I still manage to 'misplace' things all the time (*#*!^#*#*@)
Would have loved to drop into Jen's for coffee and cake - hope you had a lovely catch up and her cafe is going well.
Cheers, Jacinta
Golly..I need you here to container-ize my house. Unfortunately I'm still at the cluttering hoarding stage (mostly). Enjoy your holidays and time away from pin-heads (or perhaps not)!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I definitely agree with the whole "right container" thing! Like Gina, I always think it will revolutionise my life but it only lasts as long as I actually tidy things away! Looking forward to seeing all your amazing creations during your 2 week holiday!! Locket xx
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed Jod.... nice 'drawers'!
ReplyDeleteNice racks.
ReplyDeleteWhat up with that lady in the bottom photo?
I knew we were friends for a reason! LOVE the organisation. I big sticked another garden bed today - one each day for 2 weeks - oh and gave Lanie her quilt!
ReplyDeleteIf only we had IKEA in Tassie! MY storage solutions have quadrupled in the last year and now I'm starting to run out of room Yikes!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE ME some containers - of whatever ilk!!! I feel so much more organized but soon discover I've just a more containerized pile of clutter. But containers still make me happy!!
ReplyDeleteHey Jodie, this is so funny that I read your blog this morning...my Mum and I were at Michaels (like Joanns but in Canada) and we came upon the cutest little shakers (like for parmesan cheese) glass bottoms and the holes in the top and both her and I at separate times tried to think of something we would need these for as they were perfect!! Hmm we couldn't come up with something. To love a container that much to try to figure out what you would need it for is the best. Love your new shelves!!

No, no, don't touch the mannequin! Take it to a gallery and put it in as a work of art! It looks a) artistic and b) will no doubt sell as a fabulous piece of sculpture.
ReplyDeleteThen you will have enough money to buy a new mannequin and to buy more fabric! And having suggested that, I am now cursing the fact that I can't afford it. Drat! Drat! Drat!
I miss ikea so much it makes me cry. i order the catalogue every year just to torture myself.
ReplyDeleteOh, do you get those Howard's storage places down South? I love wandering around in there. But as yet I am still not storage sorted. I'm glad to see someone is and so stylishly at that.
ReplyDelete:)
I love organizing too but the big trick is STAYING organized especially when a creative frenzy takes over. BTW Jodie I forgot to say a big THANK YOU for the 3pm sugar fix at Stitches in Melbourne....you rock. xo
ReplyDeleteLove your wire rack! I tried wire, everything fell through ... hmmm - then I went to clear plastic containers! Voila! I can now see what's in the containers without having to label or move one container after the other to find what I'm looking for.
ReplyDeleteGreat big love affair with clear plastic containers ... L.O.V.E.
Hugs
