No great surprise

I guess its no great surprise to learn I had a great time at The Melbourne Zoo Earth hour.

I mean , they are certainly preaching to the converted in my case. The evening itself was great fun and I spent quite a bit of time imagining who all the groovy young bloggers were, and what their blogs might be about.

Even though I secretly wanted to go and visit something cute and cuddly - The group I was in went for a behind the scenes tour of the Reptile house..... surprisingly, it was fascinating. I got to spend some time with the crested iguana's and then had a bit of a turn holding a Honduras Milk snake. The guide was great and he really seemed to love his job and his reptilean charges - even the snake he told us was crazy and would "bite our arse" if he got it out.

yep that's my stubby un-manicured hand right there as I try and hand the snake over to someone else and take a photo at the same time.
(As the snakes got bigger I edged to the back of room)

I got to meet some new bloggers (gee whizz name tags would have helped me out here) and to catch up with Pip and Sooz as well.

We were wined and dined by the zoo and then we settled in with Sooz and her gang to listen to some music, watch Wil and Amy dance and play with the other kids and generally chill out.

I am a long-time fan of Tim Rogers so was really keen to hear him again , but have to say I was surprised how much I enjoyed Wagons. (Hmm perhaps I need to listen to the kids more when they make music suggestions - they assured me Wagons were going to be cool!

So, even though I am not convinced that my little visit to the zoo is going to make a huge difference, I was thrilled to be invited and once again just a little bit puzzled about the stuff that comes about because of the blog......

(Oh and consider yourself forewarned - the next two weeks around here are going to be bonkers!)

  6. We crafters are far too busy to go for manicures, thank goodness. I spend my "manicure money" (ha!) on fabric and yarn. I would have been out the door if someone tried to hand me a snake. Not my cup of tea, thank you.

  8. What a great night out, Jodie - although just looking at the snake made me feel nervous. I read "created iguanas" for "crested iguanas" and was so impressed to think that zoo people too could be quick and crafty - then I read it properly. Maybe a created iguana could be your next softie.....

  11. Hi, I agree - Name tags would have been good as would a bit more organisation, but I suspect we're the first group that this particular PR company has lined up? I spent much of the evening wondering what other blogs people had and which person in each group was the blogger and who was the 'other guest'.

I loved Wagons too - what a voice young Henry has!

And you should have said hello - although seeing as I was the only grown up wearing the yellow plastic poncho I can understand how that might have put you off a bit :)

  12. Looks like you had a fun night out at the zoo.

Why did you need to warn us about the next few weeks being bonkers, aren't you always? That's why I follow you. If you decided to get normal and boring I'd be out of here! ;-)

  13. Lucky you! I think the Crested Iguana looks like a very distinguished gentleman in a green evening suit with a cravat.

  22. I'm sorry - I'm totally distracted by that crested Iguana.....at first glance I could have sworn he was wearing a 'smoking jacket'.

    That is all.

    Too distracted for further observations.

    Moogs xx

  24. Lovely to meet you (yes name tags would have been good :). Though I got a tad um, upset, about the whole dumb-PR-agency-putting-a-certain-choc-block-in-the-goodie-bag-thing when the zoo has such a strong anti-palm oil campaign going.

The zoo and it's animals were the biggest stars of the experience I reckon. Pity they employed a PR company that supports the destruction of orangutan habitat.

  25. Snakes are surprisingly soft to hold, I reckon. Glad you had a good night and good luck with the bonkers season...

  26. Can you feel my jealousy Jodie? I am just glowing green right now!!!! I LOVE and ADORE reptiles!!! I can't get enough of them! My dream is to have that reptile guys job - he better watch out!
I know I get to play with lizards every day but they're not iguanas, and I just love iguanas!!! And I know I get to play with snakes when ever I want as I have plenty of friends who own them, but it's not the same when they're exotics and elapids!!! Sooooooooo unfair!!! I wish I could have gone too! Can you seriously feel the glare you're receiving from the computer screen? I am so ENVIOUS!!!!
I better go cuddle a lizard now to remind myself that it's all ok and that I will get to do what you have done one day too...

Ahh *sigh* reptile cuddles work. I'm not nearly as green now, more an aqua. You lucky thing you! Glad you enjoyed yourself! Any more pics of the reptiles? Lizards especially?
