As a co-worker pointed out, today was the second time I have worn a skirt to work in about 5 years.
But what a skirt it was ! 
On Saturday Annie and I went to Daylesford to visit The Makers Market. Of course we popped in and visited Lark and I also popped into ThreadNeedle craft and Purls Palace to show off my first completed project for the retreat.

I agreed and then she kind of dared me to not only make a skirt by Monday but to actually wear it !
Hows that !
So off I trotted this morning, in my skirt - it cause a small ruckus in the staffroom I have to say..and even though I felt a bit nekid and breezy I have decided that I can do skirts, and quite obviously I can make them ...(No-one pointed and giggled and said how home made it looked)
So now maybe I am a wearer of skirts. The skirt is an adaptation of Amy Butler's A line skirt from the Barcelona skirts pattern.
Voila!
(and because I believe in truth in blogging- you have to know there's a good six or eight inches of fatty boombalatta coverage pinned in the back to hold the skirt on the mannequin)
How wonderful! That is the perfect fabric for a skirt :)

I appreciate the truth in blogging boomba comment- i laughed. its funny you know- i wore a skirt to work one day years ago and have never since, I wear dresses and skirts all the time when not at work but I just felt to weird!! But everyone still remembers that time cath wore a skirt to work.

ReplyDeleteI love skirts. I own none. Part of looking good in a skirt is finding a flattering style/fit. I usually end up with my back side looking like a Buick! (big american car) Plus I dislike sewing clothes or I'd have more skirts than my closet could hold...but only if I found the right pattern. LOVE the fabric.

ReplyDeleteWhen I had "sewing" in school (early 60's) I made one with a border print too; I upset the teacher because she wanted plain fabric. I've been a rebel in sewing ever since!
I haven't worn a skirt in ages and ages, and no matter how cute yours is, nope won't wear them. Dirt roads and camping just don't do skirts any good... LOL

I love that skirt, borders are my FAV. That amy pattern is also my most fave. I used it in my first sewing class, and have made many since. None as cute as yours.

I love the selvedge quilt, the thought was there for me, but it was around my big day as well and I think I was lying comatose soemwhere for a month or two there, getting over the trauma! Trcaey

ReplyDeleteLovely! Now that you are a wearer of skirts I feel you need to be indoctrinated into a little secret us skirt-wearers only share with the most awesome of our kind. Bloomers. You need bloomers. They are easy to make, and can be as ruffly and lacy or as utilitarian and plain as you like. They keep the "what if the wind blows and you can see my underwear" from being an issue, and they keep legs warm (and thighs from sticking together if it is warm outside). I personally love my bloomers because they are so dang cute peeking out from under a skirt. My favorite pair came from urbanprairiegirl on Etsy.
