- She has to go back to work tomorrow
- Miss Jemma's show opens in 3 weeks and Jodie has 5 stage curtains to make, a full skirted dress to hem, and a pair of chorus heels to transform into the ruby (actually silver in this version) slippers. (and if course she is dealing with thespians dahhhling - they still haven't even bought the fabric for the curtains!)
- Her sewing machine has developed a nasty hacking sound that simply cannot be good. Said machine will be delivered to sewing machine casualty as soon as possible.
On the upside:
- Work means time on the Craft-at-work challenge - I am currently trying to master the very difficult stitch that I call the "colouring- in stitch" . I keep puckering everything up too much!
- It's kinda nice that I am still "allowed" to be involved. I may be the daggiest most embarrassing mum on the planet - (no its true , It's me -you can all rest easy, I am just waiting for my invite to Beijing to compete in the "No way, my mum is so much worse than yours" relay- I've been in training for years and just quietly I think I am a good chance for GOLD!)......but my sewing skills do hold some brownie points at show time.
- Lack of sewing machine means I may get a chance to look at flat-pack birdcage instructions. Seriously, I still don't get this but I'm willing to go with it- Just don't blame me if it all ends in tears.
Of course this probably doesn't mean I'll stop blogging - It'll just be as boring as bat poop!
Hurrah for daggy mums! Sounds like the machine needs a little RnR, a rest might do it good!
ReplyDeleteDid you know you can get little pots of very sticky little tiny beads that you can use on shoes?
ReplyDeleteYou can normally get them from craft shops. They are very good.
I hope your sewing machine gets better soon.
Mine has developed a horrid banging noise.
Poor thing.
Isn't it terrible when real life gets in the way of craft! Hope all goes well with the show.
ReplyDeleteThe nasty hacking sound is really not good....I nearly cried when my poor machine made that sound and I lost it for a whole week!
ReplyDeleteI hope yours gets well really really soon before all that curtain fabric arrives...
Oh no not the sewing machine! Hope it is better soon. Thanks for the welcome!
ReplyDeleteHope you're machine will be running smoothly soon! enjoy your break (at least try to) xx
ReplyDeleteFabulous selvedge 'envelope' - I look at selvedges completely differently since I started reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteHope your sewing machine gets better soon, and that you 'do' all your jobs!
I think your colouring in stitch is really nice - How would one stop it puckering???
x
Hmmm.. have consulted The Oracle and we think bat poo not boring but extremely acid (or possibly alkali) so should we expect blog to become somewhat withering while sewing machine in casualty?
ReplyDeleteMy machine is also gone :-( but I have a featherweight which has been picking up the slack! Hooray for moms that are involved! Your blog could never be boring!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOoh good luck with the sewing machine doctor - hop ethat hacking is curable...and fast!
ReplyDeleteThink I'll go and oil mine now!
I'm still in training as an embarassing Mum - very much a work in progress ;)
Good luck in Beijing - I personally think you're too cool for gold!
xxxxx
You boring? Never!! You can always work on your singer songwriter talent and we'll all sing along.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, M
Oh, Jodie, you are hilarious! I always smile when I read your blog. I would lend you my back up machine if you lived closer. I got it at a garage 10-11 years ago, and what a help it is in times of sewing machine illness. It's also nice when friends come to sew.
ReplyDeleteHAHA, Jodie the day your blog becomes as boring as bat poop will be the day the whole bloggersphere folds in on itself and ceases to exist. I'm actually looking forward to hearing how your curtain-making goes!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you put as much work in as the rest of us to be an "embarrassing mum" - it's our genetic responsibility!
ReplyDeleteWith regard to the stitching, which looks great, btw, a couple of points you may like to consider: light weight iron on interfacing that's pressed so lightly it can be snipped off around the edges on the back after stitching is completed; working in a hoop (not always possible if working on a completed item, but worth a go); seperating the individual strands of floss then threading them into as large an eye darning needle as the fabric can tolerate. As you have demonstrated, I would also put the outline stitches in after the main colouring in is completed to contain any stray ends and give definition to the final piece. Maybe fewer rows of long stitches, too? But a delightful job, none-the-less, especially with those colours.
Btw, adore your envelope and hope the machine just needed a little day spa stress relief!
Bye
A
You? Boring as bat poop!NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS!I hope your machine makes a full recovery ready for another workout or two(lots by the sound of it) I like your colouring in stitch. I hope you had fun back at school celebrating Annie's birthday:)
ReplyDeleteDear Miss Jodie, you have permission to step away for a speel to attend to all of your commitments.ONLY if you promise to come back really soon.Good luck with the whole emmbbarasse the child thing, our right i reakon!
ReplyDeleteLove fi
Sorry about the machine ... like being without an arm or leg or something ... well maybe not if you really had lost an arm or leg but I am sure you know what I mean. And as for curtain making YUCK!!!!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you need to delegate hemming the skirt. I'm happy to give you a hand with that. Back to school you go!
ReplyDeleteMy friends and rubyed-up a pair of character heels one time. Lots of work, but they looked amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love that your doing silver, like Mr. Baum intended. Good luck with yours!
Miss Jodie regrets she's unable to come out to play...!
ReplyDeleteYou are clearly unable to be boring. I love your embroidered green top too, really sweet.
Such a shame you have to go to work - surely they know you should be paid to play?
Perhaps the sewing machine has a cold and needs a sip of lemon and honey.
If you are most embarrassing mum, mums will be falling over themselves to become just as embarrassing and talented.
Looking forward to getting back to the Craft at Work challenge. Lots we can do without a sewing machine - never fear - LOVE the envelope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletemy wee birdcage arrived and I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteThank you soooo much, you clever thing you.
xx
'Tis our right to be embarrassing Mums!! Or what was the point of childbirth (twice!) ?!!
ReplyDeleteThe selvedge envelope is a gem.
ReplyDeleteThink the next few weeks sound like much fun, just love school productions. I always got even more excited than the kids.
Hope the machine is humming along again soon....but maybe after you've written a few instruction patterns....hummm????
Patty
Never boring! Never. Love the green fill in stitch.
ReplyDeletei hope you don't stop blogging - have only just found you! (trashcan sent me along!)your stitching looks great. as for the mummy bit, i think you may have a lot more competition than you think!
ReplyDeleteLove your work embroidery. You will find the more you do, the less puckering will happen. Hope your sewing machine has a very quick trip to casualty, and its nothing serious.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a lot on. Go stage Mum! Will keep checking in on you to make me laugh. : )
ReplyDeleteShame when work interferes with the fun stuff....love your colouring in stitch. I doubt that you are the daggiest mum in the world.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the selvedge envelope. did you make it??
ReplyDeleteSounds like alot of fun things going on at the Ric-Rac household... The stitching looks great, as for the puckering I put a little interfacing on the back and that seems to help, but I'm only a novice... LOL!!! So don't take this advice as gospel...
ReplyDeleteJodie :)
G’day Jodie. I’ve nominated your blog for the Brillante Weblog Award. You can see the nomination at: http://quirky-quilter.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! I hope that your sewing machine gets better soon, too. Last time I used mine, smoke started coming out of the spot where the power cord plugged into the machine. Bad bad bad. Definitely a fire hazard. It freaked me out. My machine is 30+ years old, so it didn't really surprise me. Well :o) Take care!
ReplyDeleteI think your colouring in stitch looks lovely!
