waved his magic wand and said no to the idea of elbow surgery. He suggested that the best surgical outcome would be no better than what can be achieved by time. So, the cast is off and we are heading towards normal. Just like that ! It’s kinda weird…but good weird. When the discussion about physiotherapy came up Doctor 5 suggested Simon just carry a bucket of water around for a bit. Seriously.
I started a new rag rug, not that the first one (or two) are finished but I am going to teach a drop-in class about rag rugs in July. One of the things people ask is how much fabric it takes so I thought I'd better make up an example. (What an awesome excuse)
The blue rug has used 1.5 metres of fabric at 44 inches wide. Each colour change is half a metre.
It measures 13 inches across. I’m not wholly sure why, but I am still obsessed with these rugs, Every time I see that crazy popcorn of colours on the red carpet I can’t help but smile. I think I might take it to school with me and see if the kids want to make one for the library?
Thank God for Doctor 5!
ReplyDeleteWOOHOO, YAY for casts coming off and someone making a decison ! xo
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that cast is off! Hooray! I wonder how quickly a rag-rug would come together when using slaves - uh, I mean school children?
ReplyDeleteDoctor 5 is ace. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteSimon had better get to mopping the floors methinks!
And the blues in your new rug are divine. ♥
Yay someone made a decisions! :o) I love the rag rugs. My girls have one each intheir bed rooms ... not made by me though, I wouldn't know where to start :o)
ReplyDeleteHi Jodie,
ReplyDeleteI've booked in for the drop-in class! It was the kids Mothers Day present to me. All good (at last) for you and yours on the medical front!
So glad NO surgery was the answer. Hope Mr. Ric Rac regains full use and strength tout suite (that's French!!!)
ReplyDeleteI love your rag rugs. They are homey and charming and cozy. I think the kids would love to make one for the library.
Great news re the surgery. You should have asked if rag plaiting had any physiotherapeutic value.

ReplyDeleteHappy happy day!
ReplyDeleteYour hubby must be so happy to have the cast off. Thank goodness for no surgery. I think it would be a great idea to get the kids at school to make a rug, and then maybe their mums would make one. You could start a rag rug revolution!
ReplyDeleteYay for Doc 5. Yay for you and the Mister. Would love to see him with his therapeutic bucket, though. So - back to school for you to whip those kids into rag-ruggy action?
ReplyDeleteGreats news from Dr 5 and Mr Ric Rac must be so glad the cast is off. Very pretty rag rug, but I can see a certain border collie using it as a slide pad in our home.
ReplyDeleteDid you kiss Doctor 5?
ReplyDeleteJust caught up on the numerous doctors and their specialised opinions (surely that is not knowledge?). I suggest swimming for physio. It worked great on my eight year old's elbow (son no. 1 said elbows do not actually exist as their is no bone called the elbow - huge controversy at the time but he seems to have around in the last ten years or so) and I don't see why it shouldn't work for your slightly older husband. Didn't take my rag rug materials on holiday with me but finished off my 6 year old iced vo-vo rug instead. If you keep talking about it I might eventually get there though. At a months worth of hanging on the line has finally taken the moth ball smell out of the shirts I bought towards it. Cherrie
ReplyDeleteI love your rag rugs! I so badly want to make one ... if only someone would cut up all the strips for me. I thought I might convince Mr 5 to do it, but he got distracted 1/8 through the first one (as did I - related?). I will get there eventually!
ReplyDeleteOh - I want red carpet too! So many things would look cool with red carpet: rag rugs, Anna Maria Horner throw cushions, Mr Sew-Happy House (his dark hair and complexion would be a great contrast...)
ReplyDeleteHURRAY, HURRAY! Dr. #5 all the way!! I'm so glad for you and Mr. Ric-Rac!
ReplyDeleteWe've started making mini mug rugs for mothers day - wish you were there.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Doctor 5 too.
ReplyDeleteSo does that make you Jack and Jill then?
Hope the physio/recovery/etc isn't too painful.
That is great news about the cast coming off and the decision not to go for surgery...Hooray!
ReplyDeleteMy rag rug took 4 1/2 DB sheets and it is 35" across :-)
A sigh fo relief, I'm sure! It's all good then, slow going as it may be. Even with the rugs. Popcorn rug, a new name!
ReplyDeleteI love the soft colors your rug is. I have never tried your technique but it might be used for some scraps I've been saving. Here is a picture of a rug I started that used 1 madras plaid for all of the colors.http://stone-belle.blogspot.com/2011/01/braided-rugs.html
ReplyDeleteJust cut out different sections of the plaid. It will be finished now that we have gotten rid of the white carpet it will work better.
Yipee for Doc 5, thank goodness someone listened to the practical plans for patients lecture in first year medicine school...obviously there is several contraversal published medical journal opportunities in this elbow complaint!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back in the craft room enjoying yourself. Definitely looking forward to the kids efforts at making a rag rug. Your patience knows no bounds!
yay to no surgery! wow I love that rug... wish I could take your class... I would love a tutorial (hint, hint)
ReplyDeleteWoohoo for Doctor 5!!
ReplyDeleteI imagine Mr Ric Rac is mighty relieved to be cast free. Love the idea of his 'physio' - could you hire him out to help your neighbours clean their cars?
Your rag rugs are gorgeous and you need to come here for a holiday to teach me how to make one :o)
xxx
Perhaps Mr. Ric Rac could put that water carrying activity to some good use and come and stay a few weeks in France where I have to lug heavy watering cans around every evening to water seeds, etc. that Mr. Tialys has planted at a weekend before he buggers off again. I'm not really the gardening type unless it's to float around with a floppy hat, a trug and a pair of secateurs. It seems a shame to carry buckets of water around with no purpose. I will ply him with lots of wine afterward, or smelly French cheese if he doesn't drink. The offer is there :) Good news for the 'no surgery' option - an elbow operation doesn't sound like something to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteIt's totally awesome, the 'popcorn of colours', what a lovely way to describe it. Just looks so amazing.
ReplyDeletePhysiotherapy, ha, after my carpal tunnelled hands, my doctor said "you have 4 children, that's enough physio for anyone" & i thought, sounds cheaper??!! Love Posie
I have to ask, did you ever get a good photo of the rhinos? divas...all of 'em, DIVAS! ;p
ReplyDeleteI am sure the library would Love one!
