A bit of my sewing turned into computering and at long long last I have added Baxter's story to the blog in the correct readable order (as opposed to the way it was posted). It's up there just under the header. Funnily enough it was the sewing of a little herd of hedgehogs that made me realise he has been missing for a while.I think (but don't hold me to it) that Baxter will be the next pattern...he is all done and ready and ...you know...I'm just not sure. I wonder if he should have clothes. At the moment he is just a naked little hairy hedgehog on his own. I love him of course but I wonder if he is enough? Maybe I need to add the floofy hat to the pattern, or the little tuxedo bib? (with actual buttons in place of the pins)
I can't tell you how much I would love to add his little bathroom ensemble but "Get a scrap of fabric from your scrap bin and wrap it around Baxter's head" is probably not an acceptable instruction.

and Master 16 would not even enter the discussion " Mum, seriously, you are waaaayyy too attached to that hedgehog".So go on, why not go and read his story and let me know if you have any thoughts.(and just for the record I love all my toys equally - there are no favourites....)
Jodie - Baxter's story is brilliant beyond words and it really brightened my day. The sets, the props, the script, the ideas, the sewing - all brilliant. The tiny little sweatband was super tops!
ReplyDeleteand would you think about publishing Baxter's wonderful story?
ReplyDeleteBaxter is such a character! I loved all his outfits!
ReplyDeleteWell, you know that here we all love Baxter :-) I like the idea of accessories, but why not make a separate pattern with a selection of clothes that can be adapted for all of your softies. I'm sure the Reuben/Parsley/Izzie owners would love to be able to change the clothes on their little friends ♥
ReplyDeleteMinimal on the clothing for small hedgesnogs me thinks.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'.
You Froot Loop.
Hey Baxter! Good to see you again...you are one gorgeous hedgehog...some clothes probably wouldn't go astray...winter is coming and well, you live in Ballarat so it isn't likely to be warm!! You are very handsome in your tuxedo...
ReplyDeleteI love it! Should be a children's book, or a grown ups picture book.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite line is about having someone to turn to in the supermarket.
(And I can't decide if Lou is a boy or a girl!)
I think at least the chef's hat because some people can't work out how to do them.
ReplyDeletebut poss the tux bib, too because he can't be baking all the time.

I wouldnt like Baxter to get a cold tushie now that it is cold, so I think he needs some tweed pants with braces (well hedgehogs are English) and a dapper bow tie! Or perhaps a kilt and you could give him some jocks with rude words on them?!! Happy sewing, how is the new Bernina? Sue SA.
ReplyDeleteoh Jod..... it was so nice to see Baxter again, I've missed his perky little face!
ReplyDeleteDx
Aaaaaaaaah - I LOVE Baxter :) I must have missed the last instalment 'cos I don't remember him getting a happy ending but I'm so glad he did!
ReplyDeleteI love all your toys too.
ReplyDeleteAnd I ADORE all your stories.
Find yourself a publisher madam!!!!
xx
I think I am in love with this handsome fella'....I like his stylish stripey apron the best!
ReplyDeleteI love the Baxter and Lou story.... are you going to start a line of books featuring your toys...?
ReplyDeleteHugz
I loved seeing Baxter again! Reading through the story all posted in one place was such fun.
ReplyDeleteI think I might need to make my out Baxter once the pattern comes out.
I reckon he's ready to go out into the world. Maybe you could add clothes as an extra download later if you feel he needs something more for dressing up.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Baxter is far less trouble than Mr 16 perhaps that could have been your answer to the love question.
ReplyDeleteClothes? Not sure. Accessories? Probably. Add-ons like a boat or a car or a tent or a caravan? Oh yes.....then you could show us Baxter going on his holidays!
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do I'm sure it will be funny and charming. Keep up the good work!
This is my first time "meeting" Baxter. He is just too adorable!
ReplyDeleteBaxter boy, you are more than enough. Who am I going to bribe to make me a Baxter once the pattern in done????? Painting/Baxter swap Jodie?
ReplyDeleteBaxter--man of many talents or man of mystery. Perhaps naked hairy Baxter could come with an ensemble of outfits for people to make or maybe a mystery outfit in the pattern?
ReplyDeleteI love him. He needs his own Facebook page. :)
ReplyDeleteWell...as he hasn't enough quills to be really warm, I think he should have a scarf...and some superman undies..'cos he is rather super!
ReplyDeleteI love Baxter and his story!!! I think he looks rather dashing in his Bib and buttons.
ReplyDeleteMy friend Lucy is doing a tour of blogland at the moment do you want her to come and visit Baxter or one of your other charming fellows for a bit? Check out my Easter post for a look at Lucy Bunny :-)
Oh Jodie, that story always brings a little lump to my throat and little tear to my eye at the end.
ReplyDeleteThank you for Baxter's story. And I hope some day you publish it in book form!
Wonderfull story in many ways!! I already read this once (and many more times, also to show my children: Students of 24 and 21 y old;))when I saw the pictures on flickr I think. I like him the way he is, he certainly doesn't nééd anything. Only from a buyer's point of view it would be fun to have some extra's that comes with the one pattern they are going to order. I would make him a family, with a mini hedgehog:)
ReplyDeleteGroetjes
Annemieke
I think it's the French moustaches and boater hats that the pattern needs, after all, doesn't every hedgehog need such accessories??
ReplyDeleteI love it and will love it even more if Lou is short for Louis and not Louise.
ReplyDeleteThanks for creating and sharing.
I love Baxter and have been waiting forever for the pattern. If you are not sure what to include, maybe add paper patterns to be photocopied for hats and bags. I think the hat and other clothes are a must. Have you thought about doing a children's book with patterns in the back. Years ago I had a book that was about a mouse and the pattern for the mouse was on the front endpaper and the clothes were on the back endpaper. That way we can read your lovely story to the children and make Baxter for them (but he will live in my room).
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until you decide how you are going to do it - if you need someone to test it for you I am willing to put myself out for you :)
Thanks for your sharing and generosity with your talent.
The tuxedo bib is beyond dashing - I love it! He doesn't need full sets of clothes, just a few special accessories. When you get his story published I hope you include the behind the scenes shot of the dining room table - it adds to the already very charming story.
ReplyDeleteThe photo at the end with the bath is priceless!
ReplyDeleteJodie, you already know my suggestion.Just think how easy and how much fun it will be. And less swearing too, I bet.
ReplyDeleteBoy am I glad I'm not the only sap who almost cried when I saw the two toothbrushes. I wanna throw them a party because they sure know how to have a great time, judging by that limbo contest!!
ReplyDeleteI must say, I do like the suggestion of the story book with the pattern in the back....
ReplyDeleteoh how delightful, I adore him and think his ensamble for the bath is very fetching
ReplyDeleteHiya Baxter, good to see you!
ReplyDeleteI think you should include patterns/instructions for whichever sewables are going to be in the cover photo for the pattern. In other words, choose that image first and then pattern accordingly.
very helpful, eh?
Cheers,
AJ
Love Baxter and the sets around him. I create little vignettes around my plushy critters too! How fun!
ReplyDeleteJust as sweet and emotional as the first read! I love Baxter too.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know how much I like Baxter! When the pattern becomes available I would love to add one of his relatives to the growing hedgehog empire that has taken hold of my home. When I was 8, one of Baxter's relatives stowed away in my luggage when I was visiting England. I decided he needed a friend and wrote to the company when I was back in Canada. The kind hedgehog makers sent me one of his brothers and warned me not to let him eat too much Christmas pudding! It was extraordinarily generous of them and I have been delighted by them (and a growing number of their cousins) ever since.
ReplyDeleteBaxter is rather a spiffing chap! Loved his story. Glad he has a happy ending! He looks attractive with or w/out clothes.
ReplyDeleteIf he has relatives it would be easier to tell them apart by clothes - as I'm not that good at distinguishing hedgehogs from one another yet...
You make my heart sing....Thanks a million time for sharing Baxter and his story....I NEED the pattern for him...A chef's hat and apron would do it for me....But any accessories would be snapped up in a heart beat. I love my collection of almost all of your sweet dolls and animals...and I too, love them way too much...
ReplyDeleteSusan
Can't possibly read it again - I was far too stressed the first time! Even though you're not allowed to have favourites - he's definitely mine.
ReplyDelete"just for the record I love all my toys equally - there are no favourites...." I hope Master 16 knows that he is as much a loved toy as the others...!!!
ReplyDeleteBaxter doesn't really need clothes on account he is fab as he is. Hedgehogs don't usually wear clothes cos they get shredded on the spikes.
Porcupines or porpentines as they were once called can get upset when this happens, hence the phrase, fretful porpentine... no, really!
You have such a talent! You really need to start a line of books! Thanks for Baxter's story - so glad he found Lou....
ReplyDeleteMaria
I heart Baxter and his quest for hole-filling up. So glad he never reverted to online mate-finding. That's a tough go for a hedgehog.
ReplyDeleteJodie, your critters, their stories and your imagination are a rare gem.
Absolutely adorable..anymore instalments to come?
ReplyDeleteJodie I seriously thought Baxter didnt appear as a story link because he was busy being published.
ReplyDeleteYou have a gem there and you really should pursue your stories turning into books.
As for the pattern, I think adding in the tux and the floofy hat would be way cool, but no clothes. They wouldn't work with his furry prickles!
I love all your stories, they are brilliant. When are the books coming out?
ReplyDeleteI love Baxter just the way he is but I think he's the sort of bloke who might like some fancy clothes.
ReplyDeleteI love the little hedgehog and all his little outfits and scenes, it is too cute.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Hi Jodie, Love Baxter and his story. Why not add a simple scarf around his neck like in his dress up pictures. Otherwise I love him just the way he is.
ReplyDeleteNo way, no how should you change anything - Baxter is the perfect Hedgehog -in a floofy hat or naked although now he's found a friend maybe a little less of the naked, actually the floofy hat's not my favourite.....maybe kicking back in a the hand knitted cardy his friend made him for their first anniversary. OMG did I just suggest that!
ReplyDeleteOh Jodie - that is CRAZY GOOD!
ReplyDeleteI really like his bed quilt... clever girl you.
I think Baxter needs a small wardrobe of clothes, he's that type of hedgehog. ♥
ReplyDeleteHooray for Baxter!
ReplyDeleteNaked or not, he's brilliant.
Oops. I just commented while signed in as the Mr. He also enjoyed Baxter's story, and thinks the floofy hat must stay.
ReplyDeleteJodie, you need to get your stories published NOW!!! I have a 6 & 4 yo that would love to read your stuff...& I want to buy a beautiful book...have you seen some of the dodgy stuff out there??? this is just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love Baxter as he is - a fuzzy hedgehog with an assortment of accessories. I especially like the tuxedo bib. It lets him be a hedgehog while giving him a James Bond air.
ReplyDeleteI can not tell you how long I've been waiting for Baxter to arrive in the version of a purchasable few pages of paper. Seriously? His story is amazing, and he is absolutely adorable! Just so I'm not leaving anything out... I want your duck and the donkeys too. LOVE those donkeys! So, you know, in your spare time....
ReplyDeleteI can see why you're so attached to Baxter - he's gorgeous!!! Love his bathroom getup!
ReplyDeleteI do love Baxter in the tuxedo bib, but I quite like the thought of seeing him in a pair of y-fronts!
ReplyDeleteI love hedgehogs xox
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of clothes for Baxter - the more the better!! And to echo many other comments GET YOURSELF A PUBLISHER!!! And that's Senior Management talking so you need to take notice! Locket xx
ReplyDeleteJodie, you are amazing!! Baxter's story is brilliant, as is his creator. I love the minimal look for Baxter, the stripey apron is especially fitting. Would love to see your sweet literary work included with the pattern, the kidlets would love Baxter's back story.
ReplyDeletexo Cynthia from the States
Jodi, you kill me with these little guys and their photo stories! Too much amazing sweetness for my brain to absorb without exploding!
ReplyDeleteHope to catch up with you again some time soon.
xxx J
Ah, yes .... I'd LOVE a BAXTER pattern. Hope he arrives soon!
