so, imagine I am on a horse for this one....

Daughters of blogland, my sisters!
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.

A day may come when the courage of crafters fails, when we forsake our fabrics and break all bonds of fellowship: but it is not this day !
An hour of pain and shattered Janomes but it is not this day,
When the age of Craft comes crashing down , but it is not this day.

This day we crochet !

...........................badly

  1. I crocheted sufficiently to know that I could actually do it and then threw it away. It is a nasty thing that involves my fingers cramping and me losing my temper somewhat.

Just throw it away and go back to your sewing machine. If you really want something crochetted to go look on Etsy ;-)

    (Locket? HA!)

  2. I agree, you are a nutter - but one who always brings a smile to my face. Thanks.

  4. ooo la la she is almost a crochter!

ps.if any of your neighbours should tell you a story about a group of little girls and their Mum in a car driving past screaming 'Jodie come for a swim at the pool near you'...it might just have been us. XX

  5. Have you seen Theresa's videos on youtube? She is amazing and explains things really well (for left and right handers) in slow motion. Even lefthanded butterfingers like me can learn to knit with this lady..hold on I'll find a link..

  9. Well I can crochet and I think yours is coming along nicely...keep going, you can do it...it's easy...you think your crocheting is bad, you should see the way I knit!!

  10. Use the force Jodie, you are nearly there!

  11. ...and the crochet hooks of the world did shine out with pride and delight for you did add to the woolly garden of goodness.

  13. Freeform crochet is all the rage Jod, so you're well ahead of the game!
Keep going and believe me when I say, if I can do it you can too! Yes, it takes a while. Yes, it involves cramp and swearing. Yes, eventually you will end up with something beautiful.

Sounds like childbirth/marriage/life (delete as applicable).

  14. Your crochet is way better than mine, Jod; pat yourself on the back girl. It's looking good; I'm positive there isn't a craft you can't pummel into submission!

  15. Badley - ar you kidding me! At least you can actually crochet a square - I cannot even for the life of me get past a long string.

I have booked in a crochet class next Friday - If I do not hete it here I give up!

  16. Green eggs? Well you are doing better than me because my crocheting looks like a birds nest!
Congrats on the last post as well, does this mean no catch up at Craft shows anymore :(

  17. It seems as if you have just conquered the basic stitches but need help with increasing, turning and peripheral stuff like that. Knowing you though that pile of woolly moss will magically turn into an amazing creature or two! I am very wary of your claim of incompetence.

  18. Aaah, yes.... a 'nutter' indeed! That most courageous and impervious breed of human without whom the world would be quite a drab and dull place full of 'shoulds' and 'you're supposed to do it this ways'.

We need nutters to shine a light for those of us who don't even get how to crack a nut open, let alone make something out of it.

Yep, this reply really makes not much sense at all...... I know what I mean though.....

    Linda. xoxoxox

And, my word for this comment's verification is 'slings'.... which just goes to show I'm on the right track because you can sling nuts at people if you want to. Ha.

(Can you tell I'm super tired and it's the first day of school tomorrow and I've spent uncountable hours for the last 2 weeks getting my classroom and lessons ready).

And, I'm out of nuts (cashews are my favourite).

  19. Already smiling just reading your post title... I can't exactly crochet "properly" either (well I can crochet as long as it's just going up and down the one line, and if I don't follow a pattern and just make it up as I go along because of course I wanted it to be "organic" and not symmetrical")

    ReplyDelete
  20. Youve done a lot better than me; I can only crochet a single line of stitches then it gets messy. Sewing is so much easier!

  21. Oh my gosh - this made me laugh so much. I read it aloud to BSP and she said "That's what that painting in the hall is about!"

(I bought the painting several years ago, and thoughout the years, we have wondered what the subject of the painting is despairing over.)

Clearly - she's failed at craft!

Here#s a link to the pic of it I shot just now:

  22. I am inspired. I wish that I crocheted.

  23. Hahaha -- what's going on there???

  24. You go girl!
Crocheting badly is next to Godliness – The devil makes work for idle hands.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well I don't think it looks that bad to be honest. But then again with someone as talented as you it's quite reassuring for the rest of us when there's something you're not brilliant at! ;o) Locket xxx

  26. Yay Viggo!

I like the green eggs and ham you made. Adorable!

  27. I do NOT crochet. Knitting like it's the saviour of sanity these days (possibly it either is, or it's already far too late), but crochet I have not, do not and will not.

So that look damn fine to me!?

What did you do to your Janome - what did your Janome do to you?

    Cheers,
    AJ

  28. At least you can crochet! I can only knit. I can't crochet if my life depended on it!!

  29. My wee boy is mad about LOTR - I had to giggle reading this having listened to Viggo's stirring speech waaaay too many times. Next time I hear it I'll giggle again, thinking of your crochet!

PS I can't crochet at all. You give me hope.

  30. I am scraed of that day... will all our sewing machines break at the same time???

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, best stick with your day job, then...sadly I can't even say 'it's not that bad'. Clearly I don't crochet either. With so many experts about, why bother?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think you sound like you're in good company!! Should we all keep trying or just give up? I have a great expensive tutorial book... it didn't make my crocheting any better! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Any crochet is good crochet!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think it shows promise, crocheting is such a forgiving craft no unpickers involved got to love that, you just pull and start again. I have a love of crochet shopping bags at the moment and while they aren't perfect they are serviceable. I say keep going.

    ReplyDelete
  35. *belly laugh* at you!!!
    bah ha ha :p

  36. I threw crocheting away when I was a kid (because... well really it was no fun) but have rediscovered it again recently. My first few things were so terrible I tossed them, but I'm pleased to say that with a bit of practice mine almost resembles crochet now. Don't give up Jodie... as all good teachers say "practice, practice, practice".

  37. Have you ever checked out woodwoolstool.com ? This site has very interesting crochet work-I enjoy the colourful look of the work.

  38. I'm still on dishrags, but the edges are getting straighter! They do the job of dishrag very nicely - I love useful and educational all in one go.

  39. Oh & here i was expecting, from the title, something like the Old Spice advertisement, where you finish with "i'm on a horse". Oh well, worth looking through the crochet images nonetheless. Sigh, love Posie

  40. oh yay! Being the crochet novice that I am, I know exactly where you are coming from here. Keep going with it - it will start to make more sense and it's addictive too - you'll soon want to crochet everything!

  41. Fellow bad crocheters unite! For we are strong in numbers and do not fear ridicule!

(Who knows, one day I might be able to crochet as easily as I can knit....)

  42. Someone should give an award for wittiest blogger in the world... you'd win every year!I love your turn of phrase and your quotes and your funny references. Oh, and your craft too. Don't worry, there are people out there who crochet waay worse :D

  44. It never ceases to surprise me how much trouble one can get into with a little hook and bit of string. Carry on.
