Broken promises

On the weekend I decided I HAD to clean the sewing room It was at the point where nothing could be done in there.mess1

mess2

I bought these great door knobs at the Quilt and Craft show and thought it would be a two minute job to attach them…. yep two minutes after I drill the drawer holes bigger and do a little painting because these knobs are a fraction smaller than the ones already on the drawers.

I found

mess3
  • eight unfinished embroidery projects (two of them are big ones)
mess4
  • nine mini embroidery hoops ( I have no idea)
mess5
  • an elephant who needed its ears moved and never got restuffed
mess6
  • Two monkeys and a robot in need of faces, limbs etc.

Plus I found at least another six toys cut out, 14 toys in various stages of “design” and two baskets of half-made toys that I just tucked back into a corner.

I promised myself I would finish off one project everyday.

Days since promise: 3

Projects finished : 0

New projects started: 2

    Bahahahahaha

Hilarious as per usual madam. Just tell everyone it's the 'creative way'.

  2. Ha Ha - I think we are kindred spirits although I have no little animals partly finished just a mountain of designs and UFO's - Maybe I should get in and clean up too ????

  3. It took me all day just to clean out my material cupboard and I found a large number of unfinished projects too

  4. haha - I have the same problem. I have tried to keep a UFO basket, but there are several of those, and stuff shoved in hidey holes everywhere.

  5. Cleaning Schmeaning I say. It's a familiar tale round these parts - as I sit here typing in my completely trashed craft room which I promised myself to clean this morning.

  6. Oooh you sound just like a politician - promises, promises but a light on the delivery.

  9. Awesome! Love your honesty. My 'sewing room' is actually a vintage (well just old really) Horn sewing cabinet that has become my bedside table. So yes, no dedicated space to leave any unfinished projects or mess. Hubby tends to get a bit funny when the sewing crap takes over the bedroom. No idea why!

  10. I find it's hard to be creative and neat, but it's also hard to be creative in a messy space. so I clean, make a mess and clean again!

  11. Good luck Jod. Some of those finishes do sound achievable.

  12. Love it! My craft room is a pigsty at the moment, so I am avoiding it. I'm too busy during the day at the moment, and in the evenings, there is not enough light. So, it can stay as it is for now!
I love that you've got nowhere with your good intentions! :)

  14. Have just checked it out on Dr. Google and apparently you are exhibiting textbook symptoms of "startitis". While not fatal it can be extremely uncomfortable as the brain finds ever-increasing numbers of projects to start AND, fortunately, dismisses projects that remain outstanding. Seems to be quite virulent among the crafting community. Can be treated but not cured.

  15. Sounds perfectly normal to me....

  16. I don't think it is possible to be neat and creative

  17. Awesomeness: 11

Startitis is nasty. I'm supposed to be building stock for October. I nearly got diverted into creating a tea wallet. then we realised that the card wallet pattern I already use (not mine) which everyone says "they're really nice, but I don't know what I'd keep in it" is just the right size for 3 teabags.

so i'll have to do the sensible stuff again.

and I'm meeting someone from the embroiderer's guild on Thursday... I should really have some embroidery in progress to take with, shouldn't I.

    I'm knitting a silk/merino 'Hi-Vis Vest' instead.

  19. At a meeting of my quilting bee today, I brought along a large box and an addition med-large bag of UFOs/leftovers to jump-start our charity quilt-making. Instead of feeling guilty, I call these bits and pieces a "bank account" -- like a seed bank. Of course I start new projects regularly, but if I add to my "bank account" for later inspiration, it's OK. Today, everyone dipped in and pulled enough strips/blocks/bits to start them on a charity project.

  20. Your being too hard on yourself. 2 new projects isn't a lot.

  24. A true crafter . . . 8.45am . . . your place?

  25. Too funny...i always start another project before finishing what I should be doing. got a box full of them and others lined up on the work bench. Love your blog!

  26. And dont you dare throw any of that out, cos you know you'll need it then.....

  27. You cannot imagine what a boost I got from your photos today. The guilt I have when stepping into my studio space is somewhat relieved now. I so admire you for getting started....wish me luck....or fortitude...or whatever it takes!

  28. I laughed out loud at your score: 3 - 0 - 2! Ha! You must be my sister from another mother.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You are not alone! I have a full-page list of unfinished projects, and those are just the ones I know of, not the ones that have fallen down the back of a cupboard.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ha, bet that is the last time you clean up your sewing room! Or make a to do list of UFO's! I personal find each time I clean up (or reshuffle the deck chairs on the titanic) I find that I do a bit extra on at least one UFO...don't finish it, but add a bit more to it! What the heck its nearly spring, surely that is a good reason to start a new project!

  31. Rule 1 - don't tidy up - it is dangerous and should have a government health warning!
Rule 2 - don't pretend even to yourself that you can finish more than you start

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah, I feel your pain. I find such things too...not half as cute as your stuff but it is still stuff I started EONS ago! I've made 2012 the year of focusing on UFO quilts. I've made some real progress but find myself slipping back to my old ways of starting something new BECAUSE I HAVE TO OR I WILL JUST DIE! DIE! DIE! ;p

Hey, are you watching 'Orange is the new Black' on Netflix streaming??!! It is so wild and funny!

  33. Chookyblue told me your blog was funny - I just cracked up over the tally score of Days / Finishes / New projects! Hope the score has improved since you posted that.
