Recently sounds good.
Recently I was asked to join the amazing Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson in designing a block for The Splendid Sampler 2
Using the Moda fabrics and Aurifill threads we were sent I designed my block called Pack your Bags ! (Page 92). It is a super easy pieced block with a little bit of embroidery. When I looked through the finished book I felt like perhaps my block was too simple - but I decided that people might like an easier block amidst the triple somersault paper piecing upsidedown applique throw your leg over ones.
I designed this block to celebrate the travel that eventuated because of this crafty life. My very first overseas trip was to America for the International Quilt market and it was the start of many trips and so much fun.
Are you part of the sew along? If you are then Pat is your host this week and if you enter you could win a great prize from Aurifill.
Today I am giving away a copy of The Splendid Sampler 2 book as well as two of my cute little sewing pins. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me what kind of blocks you like best. Do you EPP, foundation piece, applique ?
Let me know and I'll pop back tomorrow and pick a winner .
cheers
jod
I do EPP, I do foundation piecing, and I'm a beginner at appliqué. But my favourite is probably just regular ordinary piecing on the sewing machine - cutting some fabrics and sewing them together is my idea of fun.
ReplyDeleteI guess ordinary piecing would be my favorite, too. I do like paper piecing, though.
ReplyDeleteI like pieced the best but loved exploring so many techniques sewing along with splendid sampler
ReplyDeleteI like piecing the best, and applique second. love your block. thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love EPP and am still too scared to try foundation paper piecing, I think I would be alright if I tried it at a class and had help. i love the block, and also it is good to have a variety of blocks, sometimes we don't have the time or energy for a complicated piece. Thank you for a fun giveaway. x
ReplyDeleteThe Human has told me I has to comment on your post because I've been slack and not blogged for ages and I should practice and get back to it....sheesh! she has no idea how hard it is to type with paws, in the hot...anyways, her is telling me to tell you that she likes hand piecing and EPP most best...and foundation piecing most least! Your wee block is very cute and I thinks she should make me one with my name on it...oh and she says to tell you (bossy Human) that your pins are veerry cute and she loves them...tail wags to Finn the Wonder Dog, hope he isn't melting in the hot...Jindi the Dog Who Blogs (well used to, now not so much)...
ReplyDeleteI like your block Jodi. I'm a regular piecing & embroidery girl. So it is perfect for me.
ReplyDeleteThe assorted blocks make for a great sampler - juat as they should be.
Love your block, simple, elegant, doable. I love to put two pieces of color together and sew like a crazy woman. Love the sound of that machine humming along and then this amazing bit of creativity comes out ehnother end! I also do stitching, appliqué and foundation and epp! Love it all.
ReplyDeleteYour block is very elegant Jodie. I like EPP but also love piecing as I’m a ‘tesselation tragic’ from way back! Lol
ReplyDeleteThank you for being part of our sew along with your wonderful block Jodie!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove your engaging sampler patterns! I like applique best because I enjoy hand work and embroidery.
ReplyDeleteGiuditta
Love your block! I am a new quilter and love trying new things. I have tried paper piecing and liked it. Thanks for sharing your block!
ReplyDeleteKaty :)
not "the triple somersault paper piecing upsidedown applique throw your leg over ones"
ReplyDeleteI mostly don't make blocks. But I do a bit of fused machine appliqué and basic machine patchwork. I like embroidery and never do enough of it. you and your block are awesome, obvs.
I like to make pieced blocks but also like applique both machine and hand. Also enjoy some embroidery. Thanks for the block this week, my head is still spinning from all the paper piecing last week.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy every part of quilting but hand applique is my first love.
ReplyDeleteI like the variety of blocks in the SS2. Paper piecing is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love your block and actually made it about a month ago. i love the opportunity to add embroidery to a block.
ReplyDeleteI love pieced blocks the best, but started a long time ago with embroidering on my jeans. And your pins are so excellent. I can't wait to gift the seam rippers to my quilting buddies in March. I think I'll wait til the first one says, "S#@t, I sewed this wrong!"
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy doing foundation paper piecing. It took me a while to get started but now I love it
ReplyDeleteMy favorites to make are the pieced and embroidered blocks. I am so excited to make your adorable block!
ReplyDeleteTurns out I love appliqué and EPP with 5/8” hexies!! Never thought I would enjoy either technique when I started out.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great block and those pins are just darling. I like improv blocks the best and applique. They aren't as fussy as traditional blocks.
ReplyDeleteSo far just a chicken beginner and do simple piecing. But at 70 yo, there's always more to learn :) BTW your etsy shop is a delight--love your sense of humor and your adorable patterns!
ReplyDeleteI adore applique, needleturn of course!
ReplyDeleteI love your block! I am new to paper piecing and a novice at all machine pieced techniques. I have learned that and more in my first month with the splendid sampler 2 sew along. I most enjoy basic piecing of blocks that are easy enough to complete successfully but challenging enough to improve my skills. I think yours is perfect in that regard!
ReplyDeleteI've tried them all but I mostly make pieced blocks and applique. Your block looks great! I avoid the blocks with too many tiny pieces.
ReplyDeleteI'm mostly just a piecer, with a bit of appliqué (hand, fusible, machine) thrown in. This year I want to get back to doing some embroidery, so your block is timely! Thanks much for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteLately I have taken up applique, trying to polish my skills, especially my points, which are pesky !!
ReplyDeleteI most like piecing blocks, but enjoy paper piecing and some applique. I love to travel so your block is PERFECT. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLove doing embroidery in small amounts - your block is perfect for this! Also enjoy any pieced or applique projects but have yet to try English Paper Piecing … intimidated is the best excuse I guess. Have been making small hand stitched felt animals for our grandson - he loves them all.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance. I love to do needle turn hand applique.
ReplyDeleteI like to keep things simple, especially when it comes to piecing. I also have done applique (but not so much right now). I'm really into embroidery now, especially red work designs and incorporating crayons, applique, and ribbon work to bring the patterns into the 21st century.
ReplyDeleteApplique is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI like piecing blocks the most, but appreciate what can be done wth other techniques.
ReplyDeleteI have some get ideas for Appliqueing ... FIESTA :)
ReplyDeleteLove the block, but don't want to be entered in your giveaway. You are too kind.
ReplyDeleteLove your block My love
ReplyDeleteHowever is applique!
I am a fairly recent convert to foundation paper piecing but now I love it. I love the way I can get accurate points and create images - I recently paper pieced a unicorn head, as you do.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy applique but have not done very much of it yet. I also like paper piecing.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy paper piecing .
ReplyDeleteI enjoy paper piecing .
ReplyDeletenever learned to PP so do every thing else, thanks
ReplyDeleteLove paper piece and some with embroidery on them so love your block!
ReplyDeleteNice and easy. Thank you, Libby
My faves are pieced blocks with no t so many fiddly parts. Thanks for a fun Block to make this week. pmcrowther@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI love foundation paper piecing!
ReplyDeleteLove your block. I love all patchwork techniques.
ReplyDeleteI like embroidery blocks and pieced ones too so I like yours alot.
ReplyDeleteOh I love your tiny sewing machine, it's so sweet. I like to piece and also appliqué, it's so very relaxing... when things are going well.
ReplyDeleteI HATED foundation paper piecing but then I signed up for a bom, bought the right tools and now I love it. I epp also but my favorite is needle turn applique. I also recently started to longarm. That's really a challenge for me.
ReplyDeleteI think that I like machine applique the best. I seem to be able achieve a much better result than if I use needleturn, and I must say I prefer sewing at the machine. For that reason, although I have done some and love the effect, I will never be making a large EPP project. I haven't done a lot of foundation paper piecing, but am quite enjoying the process as I make the Splendid Sampler blocks, even ordering the Add-a-Quarter Ruler to my collection. Ordinary piecing is fun too. Thanks for your SS2 block and the fun giveaway.
ReplyDeleteFoundation piecing is tricky but oh so rewarding when done. Something almost zen-like about it for me. Love your SS2 block!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a "simple" block as you put it :)
ReplyDeleteI love all forms of quilting! This is why I am doing Splendid Sampler 2. You get everything & I love that! Love your block, Jodie.
ReplyDeleteI love paper piecing.
ReplyDeleteI mostly like very detailed piecing but it is nice to have an easier block now and then!
ReplyDeleteI love doing a bit of everythingm to do with quilting. Paper piecing has been the favourite lately.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy paper piecing and English paper piecing especially.
ReplyDeleteLove your block. I love to embroider, paper piece, and also English paper piece. I like to have something to do while watching TV or movies of an evening.
ReplyDeleteMy preference is for simple patchwork which allows for the fabric and design to shine. I have tried appliqué and like its impact on plain backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteI like doing a bit of all techniques. I don't do a lot of EPP although I am making a hexagon quilt with 2" hexies but it is a long term project.
ReplyDeleteI'm a piecer, and I've learned to love applique.
ReplyDeleteHello Jodie. It’s a pleasure to kinda meet you and I’m loving your ceramic pins! I make pins too with various materials. Thank you for designing a beautiful relaxing and fun block amidst a pleather of challenging hair pullers . I love it! My favorite blocks to make are the ones that allow room for the maker to add their own creativity. They are few and far between. Happy designing and enjoy your travels! Leslye Ann Creates
ReplyDeleteI love it all! But I guess piecing is my first love. By hand or by machine. Mostly by Machine. Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI am new to paper piecing, but found I love it! Thanks for creating this nice, fairly simple block.
ReplyDeleteI love appliqué. Even the upside-down throw your leg over variety. But I make the simpler kind as a rule. One of my all time favorites was a quilt by Sylvia Pippen which had machine piecing, hand appliqué and sashiko stitching in it. Your block could be used for a quilt label, it is perfect and sometimes the upside down twisty legged piecers like to have a nice relaxing block too!
ReplyDeleteI have made quilts since my first nephew was born but teaching and raising 3 kids kept me from really QUILTING. I retired last year and am having a BLAST! Done rag, applique, disappearing 9 patch, denim circles, home machine quilting, and some strip work. I have two jelly rolls.... but must finish a quilt for my granddaughter Izzy FIRST!!!! Just wish I were 59 instead of 69.... too little time! Thanks for sharing your work with us online! I know it takes time to take pictures and load them, but you are appreciated! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI have just read thru all the comments and they are fantastic. What a devoted bunch of sewist we are, and we love diversity in our craft and creations. Thank you so much Jodie, for giving us all this chance to win this beautiful book and the pins. I shall enjoy making blocks from it. Thanks again.
