Taking some credit

Remember the class I did in Ballan with the kids. During the week one of the assistants (mother’s) sent me an email:

“I know we gushed and gooed on the day, but L and I just can't stop talking about your Sally class - we've both been thoroughly inspired!  (And we've become great pals with V and E too...bonus!)  L has done a little bit more machine sewing but she's just pulled one out of the bag with some hand stitching.  She designed and stitched this little number between 3pm yesterday and 10am this morning (taking out eating and sleeping time etc...) and she was dying for me to email it to you!”

How is that ? Miss L is a total darling and was one of the least experienced kids in the class, and look at her now. She is a rock star.

Every time I think about this, I get a big goofy grin on my face. This teaching kids gig has to be one of the most rewarding things I have done in ages. I just want to lean into that photo and give her a big squeeze ! Miss L is coming to my next Ballan class in July and I can’t wait for a bit of show and tell so I can see her work in the flesh. She is a delight !

Would you believe I have two new patterns ready and finished….they are just waiting for cover photos. I need the weather gods, the time management gods and the photography gods to all smile at the same time and they will be finished….

Be well my internet friends, I have been missing you.

  4. How fabulous is that stitchery! Well done to Miss L and to you to for inspiring her during the class. It's great to see kids enjoy craft and expand their minds away from electronic gadgets (except sewing machines of course). You are a great inspirationist Jodie.

Also, I can't wait to see the new patterns, and does the Rhino have a name yet?

  15. Jodie, you are creating a storm of crafting inspiration. My small girl went to the same class and has also found a love of craft in the weeks since she made her Sally dog. In fact, "Spotty" is off to school tomorrow for show and tell. See you in July - we can't wait. Thanks for such a great class.

  16. Just brilliant! Good on her and there will be no stopping her!
My grand daughter is only 7 and we've given her the bug too. She'd love to do one of your courses, Jodie. Are you going to do one in Ballarat (she lives in Bendigo).

  19. that is so brilliant, what fantastically neat stitching and a great drawing / pattern as well! Yay!!!!

Good to see you turning the young ones to the dark arts too.

I love that she was so caught up in it she must have done nothing see in that time to finish it so quick. Makes me excited for her.

If ever there was a more fitting enthusiastic teacher other than you I doubt it.

  20. Thanks so much for your gorgeous post Jodie - and perfectly timed for Mother's Day! I really did just about die with pride at her work and the way she threw herself into it.

So glad to get her interested in craft at this age, before there are "other" things she could be interested in!! My evil plan has worked, it seems!

It must be satisfying to know you are in the perfect profession - you define what it is to be an amazing teacher and I can't begin to tell you how much you have shaped my little girl (and no doubt countless others) in just one day.
