and she should be ashamed....

Sewing all the way around a teensy little softie arm and not leaving a turning gap?
Perfectly understandable mistake.
Sewing all the way around two teensy softie arms without leaving a turning gap, even though you stopped to change thread colours ?
A lack of concentration perhaps?
Sewing around 12 teensy softie arms with four thread colour changes and leaving no turning gaps....

Sheer stupidity.

  1. Happens. Especially if you think about something very different and exciting.
This way I knitted a hundred row cuff - instead of a twenty-fiver...

Still your arms make me smile...

    have a good day though!

  2. Ooooops? Where's your head at? Distracted? Overworked? Time-poor?

I think you need a holiday.

  3. D'oh!! That sounds like something I would do. Today I cut a pattern piece and forgot to cut on the fold. D'oh! Lucky it was the smallest piece - a pocket.

PS Thanks for the sneaky-peak at how softies are made.

  5. Aggghhh! That's one of those Oh CRAP moments... (or maybe another slightly more rude word)

  6. LOL! That's a big woops there!
Easy to do though if your mind is elsewhere! Time for a teabreak I'd say!

  7. This is going to be a silly question, but I'm intrigued, how do you change thread colour mid sew?
I think you were concentrating on that and forgot the other.
I have no excuse when i forget the hole every time!!!

  8. Oh ... we all have those days!!

  9. I am so glad I'm not the only one.

  10. Oh well, I imagine you just got in your stride and by the time you stopped to check it was too late. Rub your head and get your unpicker out :-)

  11. Bugger!
Sounds like something I would do too!

  12. Now when you get your little ripper out...don't go there...just a little bit will do!

  13. Oh my! I couldn't help laughing of your post...you described the incident in such a funny way. But I luaghed only because it was a mistake that I could have made myself - even 12 times in a row. ;))

It isn't funny to do the job that waits for you with the little 12 arms. But I'm sure that the result will be marvellous. :))

  14. Don't you hate that! They look great, but I guess that's no consolation!

  15. Getting a bit ahead of yourself, non?? The future where endless bobbins & softie limbs which turn themselves inside out, stuff & seal like magic!! Love Posie

  16. Consider it teensy softie arm practise sewing but tell me did they bounce when you threw them ?

    ReplyDelete
  17. bollocks! I believe that's what you call an epic fail!

    ReplyDelete
  18. What were you thinking? Oh, right, you weren't thinking - or looking. Oh well, even crafting geniuses deserve an off day. PS: So what do you do with 12 inside-out arms anyway??

  19. I love it when you make SUCH a big mistake, you're first thought is to blog it! I just wonder if 'unsewing' ever entered your mad brain! teehee Or did you think it was quicker to sew another one...and another one...and another one.

  20. Bummer! I am super impressed with the thread changes though. Can't say I did that when I was sewing the tiny arms...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yep.
    Been there.
    Done something like that...
    Had many of those days.

But your 'sheer stupidity' (as you put it) made me smile - only because I know how you feel!

  22. Yesterday I had a meeting to go to at my daughter's school. I'd had to postpone a friend coming over to sew because of it, but then I forgot to go to the meeting! duh! I usually like to throw something I threw a cake once but I think I'd eat it now...:D

    We've all been there..

  27. Thankyou
This blog and the comments that follow remind why this is the first blog I check and the one I miss when you are busy. Love the tiny arms, this is better than using wickedly expensive mohair and sewing four arms to attach and then realising that you don't have any left arms.
Looking forward to seeing the end (fixed) results

  28. Ooooh no no no! I feel your pain. Thanks for sharing your mishap, you have created smiles all round, so plenty of good has come from it

  30. ive done it! 8 times over and i still forget, especially with circles.

  31. You were on a roll! Honestly, sometimes I think it is faster to get out the seam ripper and make a tiny cut later. At least that is my explanation to myself all the times I forget.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Or maybe just time for a break. And a wee drink. Beverage choice is yours, but I would recommend something slightly alcoholic. Or a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Did you forget to put your 'superwoman' pants on? At least there is hope for the rest of us if you make mistakes like this too!
    Tomorrow is another day......

  34. Oops! Quick, give this woman coffee! Lots of coffee... and possibly cake too!

All that work is making you over concentrate so you miss stuff. I've done it with calligraphing a page...looks great until I make a glaring mistake - always near the end so I have to do it all again.

  35. Such a comfort to know there are some rather prestigious members of the club.

  36. You must've been on a roll to get all that sewing done and not realize that simple mistake! I usually do stuff like that when I'm super tired. No offense, but it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one that does something like this...to know a super efficient sewist like you can make a mistake like this! ;)

  37. Honey, you just "zen-ed" out, that's all. It's happens to us all. Michele

  40. I hope you said a really great bad word (right before grabbing your seam ripper).

  41. wow .. i'm impressed you stopped to change thread colour!

  42. It's reassuring when your role models make mistakes...............! Locket xx

    ReplyDelete
  43. ooops! but no stupidity, you were surely thinking in 1000 other things :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. If the arms are teeny tiny, you could cut a small slit in the back for turning the arms through and then stitch that closed. I use this technique when sewing small parts. Perhaps it was not a mistake after all but a chance to discover a new technique?????
I am curious as to why you change the colour, surely you could not see the stitching when turned through. As always Ms Jodie, you have us all intrigued!

    ReplyDelete
  45. So you are as human as the rest of us!!! I was beginning to think I was reading the blog of Superwoman.

    Hugs

  46. obviously your head is in the clouds!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well... that's annoying!!
Okay, well I actually had a teensy little giggle as the story went on, but I promise after that Jod I felt your pain.

  48. You need a coffee and cake break, a coffee cake sounds nice! Maybe you did it so many times to make the lesson sink in!

    ReplyDelete
  49. OH GOSH! (sure that's exactly what you said!)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Bugger. In consolation, I am sure that it is some sort of record...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hehehe, I say take a shot for each one and look at them again, You got twelve done and they truly are Completly ! sewn. Cheers :)

  52. Ha! Been there, done that. (well, once at least. not 12 times. and not changing colours)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Isn't that why we have a quick unpick in the sewing kit?
The slit in the inside arm works really well when you are buttoning them on anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I can only imagine the level of frustration!

    ReplyDelete
  55. The only thing stupider is carefully cutting the pieces of a garment out and then finding that you cut the cuff off the bottom of the back - AAK! Did that. (I wondered where all the extra fabric came from - duh)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ha! That's funny. I still do this ALL the time. Sometimes the best part of sewing is when you're working along and not even thinking!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Nawww - think positive. When I do something like this I say, "I'm consistent!" lol

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think it's safe to say you're not alone!

...so what was on your mind if it wasn't your sewing?

And can I make just one "Farewell to Arms" joke? Just one? No? ok.

    ReplyDelete
  59. You were just on a roll!
    Still poopy though.

    ReplyDelete
  60. That sounds like something I would do. Maybe even more than once! Praise be to tiny scissors!

  61. Hehe this is definitely something I would do. Thanks for the giggle :)
