Don't you wish....

Yesterday my mum visited and she picked up this little friend and raved about it.

as did Annie Flowergarden when she visited.
Isn't it weird? I had almost fallen out of love with this one (Telling myself it is way too simple)
I  wish I could look at the stuff I make with someone else's eyes.
It got me thinking, we need a pact, you and I.
The day is going to come (it might have already happened) when I show you something so ridiculous or so butt-ugly that you can't believe I blogged it.
When that day comes just lean in close in the comment box and let me know won't you ? Suggest I need a rest, or the world is not quite ready for that design or just front-up and tell me it is fugly...however you want to phrase it is fine.
I mean for gods sake , this thing doesn't even have limbs!

  1. He may not have limbs but he is elegant in his simplicity. And as usual it's your attention to quirky details which makes it... his fur, collar and the little bit of chewed up newspaper. Perfection.

  2. I didn't even realise he didn't have limbs until you mentioned it!! Positively gorgeous and beyond cute like all your work. I don't think that you could make anything fugly.

  4. I have a poodle-mix dog. She looks just like that right now as she stares up at my husband and tries to scam a bit of his breakfast. (She loves banana.) You don't see limbs, just imploring face.

  5. It may not have limbs but it has personality. You can go a long way on personality!

  6. It may not have limbs, but he does have those eyes, and ears, and a tilted head. And, you can tell he's trying to behave and he really does love you.

  7. The head and expression are great, and I love that you let him chew up that paper.

  13. I totally understand. Sometimes when I design crochet things, I can't tell if they're ugly or not, especially jewelry made of any technique. When I ask people, I don't trust anyone will tell me if it's ugly to try to spare my feelings.

I think no matter how much you hate some of your creations, there are plenty of people who will love them. You have such a unique aesthetic, which ends up in everything you make, and people will just be drawn to it. Like this pup!

I don't think I've commented here before, but I solemnly promise to tell you if you make something ugly. I've followed for a long time and haven't seen fugly yet, but I will pay special attention in case it happens. :P

  14. What a little poppet, Jodie - I'd like to take him home and give him a big cuddle. That scruffiness is so endearing. And he wouldn't bark his head off at 3 in the morning as my two have started to do. Looking forward to seeing him with legs on (and I'm sure he is too). (Am now wondering why I have assumed it is a 'he'??)

  15. He doesn't have limbs but he has that wierd little tilt of the head and that expression that anyone who ever owned a dog knows and loves.

  16. Just call him Bob and stick him in a puddle, then you don't need to bother about legs.

  17. Well it's definitely not this little guy I love him. Is he coming as a pattern? Maybe my girls will get the dog they want for Christmas!

  18. Look at his little face! He doesn't need limbs. Unfortunately, the scene is all too familiar as my new rescue dog is a chewer and has already eaten a dog bed, a candle, a roll of Customs stickers and a Moroccan pouf.

  19. He doesn't need limbs. He is highly huggable and endearing.
Funny enough, with the bunnies of last post I did felt the lack of legs, probably because they had arms.
All the limbs or none at all seem to translate better.

  20. He has personality Jodie...you do that so well with your toys...it's like the Velveteen Rabbit

  21. Oh please I love all your stuff, but I really want this one. At first I thought he was made of shredded paper and I wondered how you did that! He is very special.

  22. I have learned at times that simple is best. I totally agree with Annie comparing him to the Velveteen Rabbit. You don't just create toys, you create personalities.

  23. He is so cute. That face just takes your heart. He looks as if he has enjoyed himself so much tearing up your paper and expects to be praised for doing such a good job. How about adding legs and I know he has a large fluffy tail hidden away.

  24. I'm torn, I mean I love the dog, he's the cutest thing ever, really, I want one, but *pauses* the knees on the wooden people freak me out. There, I said it, and you asked and I told you, but now I'm going to wake up at 4am wondering if you're awake at 4am, despite living in totally different time zones, worrying about the fact that some insignifiant English woman who lives in France, doesn't like your knees.... -_-

  25. Love him - lack of limbs and all - I especially love the fact he's tearing up the newspaper!

  26. I find the lack of limbs confronting. I'm thinking amputee dog and you know those thoughts don't lead to a happy place...I'm wondering if someone took out all his limbs because of the newspaper incident? And if so why is there no blood? And he way he's still looking up, imploring love? Even after he's been machete-ed down like that? Too sad for me! But the head is perfect, so you know if you could come at some limbs he'd be awesome.

  27. When (if!) you make something fugly, it would probably be the lack of comments gushing on how amazing you are that will be more of an indication. Don't you think?

  28. 1) lol @ 'lean in'
    2) he doesn't need limbs to be adorable...just look at his dear face!
    3) don't count on me to rain on your parade! My job is to enjoy and get a good chuckle from the post and comments. That's MY story and I'm sticking to it! ;p

  29. He has quintessential dogginess, therefore he has cute all over him.
