once upon a time

Once upon a time I had to send a photo of myself to someone.
This photo was going to be seen by lots of people. It went with an article, but you know it kinda became all about the photo for me........
I am not beautiful , I am not young and I am not slim but mostly I am just happy being what I am. This photo worried me. I wanted to look.......different?....better?........Younger?
slimmer?

and you know what ? At 9.30 in the morning without make-up (I don't even own any) standing in the sewing room dreading the photo and running late for work.......well I kinda look like someone who is smiling through a rectal examination.

I sent away the photo but secretly didn't want anyone to see it. I didn't realise I was this vain. Today everyone can see the photo and I know someone in blogland will direct you to it......
I kinda still want to keep it hidden but at the same time, I think Living Creatively are awesome and I have to share what they do........

So ,This is me, smiling through my rectal examination.

My name is Jodie and I don't usually look so pained.

I sew stuff and I am pleased to meet you.

  4. aww bless.. its lovely to put a face behind a "voice" though... I loath my picture being taken .. I don't really know why I married a photographer.. that pesky love thing I suppose... there are very few pictures of me... I try to hide behind the camera with my husband as much as possible... luckily our son is a total ham so it all works out in the end.

its good to see you though...

  5. You know, that procedure will probably be less of an ordeal if you bend forward a little bit!

  6. Does anyone like pics of themself??

I avoid having my photo taken, to the point that I have all these pics of my kids, but none of ME with them! It makes me kinda sad...

Anyway, it is nice to put a face to the name :-)

  10. Lovely to see you and so refreshing to see a photo that is real and not dressed up for the camera. I must say I love your real hair as opposed to the clipped version on the LC site - a great article though!

  11. You look great! Love the picture behind your head too!

  12. I think you are beautiful - a gorgeous warm (despite rectal examination) smile..

  15. If I told you how many photos I took of myself to get a decent one for Facebook you would not believe me. Did you realise you've been photo-shopped over at LC and you look very cool and groovy. I think the eye chart was holding you back frankly. Great article and gosh your stuff is fabulous

  16. How nice to see you! :o) I find it weird posting a photo of myself also. I did it once only to prove that I really did meet Amy Butler. Your "stuff" is original, creative, and amazing and I just love your sense of humor.

  17. I'm still giggling from Trashy's comment but it really is great to see a photo of you! I too wear no makeup, it's only for special occasions, once a year if I'm lucky! In photos I always have a double chin and most of the time I look like a kangaroo whose stunned by the headlights!
I still feel like I'm in my 20's but it's not me who looks back in the mirror. Sometimes I want to yell Stranger Danger!!

  18. So THAT's the funny, talented, fabulous Ric Rac... you look like a fun person to share a bottle of wine with or cake and coffee with.

Make up? Bah! Humbug! Make up is the culture's way of saying to all women that they aren't good enough... but with THIS product all that could change! Piffle!

You look like a warm, fabulous, funny, witty mum. What's wrong with that, eh?

Tho' I notice you aren't wearing your selvedge crown to signify you are the Selvedge Queen. Maybe that's for the next project.

  20. Well done! Did you notice Cathy and I never supplied LC with one!! We had to bite the bullet though as we were asked for one last week for Sew Hip. Cathy did them in B&W which helped heaps.
You are so gorgeous and the LC article is completely brilliant!!

  21. lol!!! bless you, you look quite ok with having that rectal exam, are you secretly enjoying it?

  22. Well is there someone out there that actually likes to have their photo taken? It's not me!! Photo doesn't look too bad but you look even better really!! Love the article, well done.

  23. There should be a club for those of us who hate having our picture taken. I wish I looked as good in my pictures as you do in yours.

I don't wear makeup either, which is why I look pretty good when I have a fever. Nobody believes I'm sick!

  36. Oh, Jodie, that photo is great - it's you through and through! And I love the fact that you stood next to your "Do not panic" picture!!! I think if I was having a rectal exam, I would be crying and not looking as good as you would!!! I'd be looking for a pillow.....ouch!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Just read the article and I have a grin from ear to ear. It's fantastic Jodie!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. HI! It's so nice to see you! You look great :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow you do hold it together through one of those exams Jodie!!! I often think we should all post a photo of ourselves so we can "meet" each other but I am never brave enough! How stupid is that????? It's great to "meet" you!! My name is Linda and I am a photophobic!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. LOL. Who's the lady in the selvedges dress pictures? Your daughter?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi jodie!

well done on your interview, I must read it now!

If it make you feel better I could send you a picture of myself, but I think you might already know what I look like : )

PS: I wonder if this sounds like all those bad comments you've been getting from sex perverts!

    ReplyDelete
  42. So fun to see you...gorgeous lady!! And lots of fun and a great friend, i'm sure!! Pleased to meet you as well!!

  43. I think you look like a nice normal person, who is coping very well with her rectal exam!!! Lovely face goes with a lovely and very creatively fabo blog.
I had my passport photo done last year and it was so bad (like a mass murderer on Valium)that I went home put on full stage makeup and went to another place to get it done. Talk about VAIN!!! Frankly it only looked marginally better!! Good on ya and nice to meet ya. Liz :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Everyone is vain darling. Besides, they are all looking at the dress, not you. But I agree the sight chart adds a distinctly medical air...

    ReplyDelete
  45. You totally crack me up and I think your selvedge creations are something to die for.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Gee, I hope in the advent I ever have to have a rectal exam I look as good as you do!

That was such a great interview of you on Living Creatively - good to see you being recognised! You shouldn't be so surprised about it! :p

  48. I identify with the post fully. I live in fear of having to have a photo of me accompany anything. I applaud your bravery. You look beautiful and crafty and like someone I'd love to go for a beer with! Nice to meet you Jodie.

  52. Nice to see you - and Do Not Panic, you look fine.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Is there a special artsy-craftsy reason you were snapped standing right next to a eye chart?? Nothing wrong with the pic - wish I looked that good in a photo (and that young too!) Now the pic of me that was put up in the staffroom was TRULY scary! Interesting article; great to see you getting the credit you deny yourself. I love your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think you look great....I'd hate to have any photos published of myself and very rarely wear make-up so I think you look great!!!!

    Corrie:)

  55. Oh, it not awful! Your brave for just taking the pic! I hope i dont have one floating around blogland...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ya know, I am beautiful, cute, sexy, curvy, and attractive with fantastic skin and perfect hair. I can never figure out why pictures always show me as rather short and round with frizzy hair, a red face, and a crooked smile. Obviously, the cameras don't work correctly. Maybe you have that problem too?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Nice to meet you Jodie!!! Perhaps we should all come clean and post a mug shot on our blog...then again!! Cathy

  60. Yep, don't own any makeup either. I thought I was the only one. I went to my friend's wedding this year and borrowed my 5 year old niece's little mermaid clam make up set. Gave me itchy eyes and had it off by the reception. You look great just as you are.

  68. What sort of sick person photographs someone in the middle of a rectal examination?

You look incredibly good though...if a little shocked at having been caught in a compromising position ;-)

Your article on Living Creatively is fab missus and I'm so pleased to see your wonderful work being showcased :-)

Now, just you go sit yourself down on a nice comfy ice pack.....

  69. Jodie, you don't look pained, you look adorable!
Its so nice to put a face with the name.
But, I can totally relate to the ankst (sp?) of having your picture seen. I've done a few online interviews and sure enough, a picture was requested. SO my face is floating around out there, too...but I'm not tellin where. LOL

  70. I read the article before I read your post and thought it was a good photo.
    You have a kind face.
Excellent article too - although I thought the photo of the dress didn't really do it justice.

  71. I get this! This year, I have made the resolution to grin through the photos and not stress about it. I don't want my daughters to feel this way about themselves and photos. Smile. It will be okay.

  73. I'm delighted to meet you too.

I'm trying to get over the photophobia as well. I want proof that I existed in our photo albums.

(My word verification is "agogia" - I believe this to be a condition afflicting readers of craft blogs when they see projects that astound them.)

  74. Smart, sassy, witty, talented Jodie. Great photo, even if you have to grin and bear the rectal. Beautiful Jodie, I love the make-up shake-up! Walk forth and be proud.

  75. Hi Jodie - so nice to see you. I'm sorry to hear that you had to have a rectal examination and a photograph taken at the same time - that is harsh!
I too am reluctant to get my face out in public - well done you!

Actually, you don't look how I imagined you would look - I thought you might have longer hair somehow. Funny what you sometimes imagine isn't it.
