Desperate times.

Some days everything just goes to hell in a hand basket doesn't it.

A friend recently asked me if I ever blogged my Boo-Boo's. I replied (and it was a joke) but I don't ever have any Boo-Boo's.

Ha ha ha Joke is totally on me. I do not know how many of these little buckets I have made over time - ( there is even a tutorial in the sidebar) so really whipping these up could be done blindfolded - OR NOT !!!!

These were sewn and unpicked and jiggled and wriggled to within an inch of their life. The only thing that saved them from being tossed in the bin was the little pictures that I really love, so I struggled on through. The problem , apart from me being too cocky was probably the linen. It is beautiful but such a loose weave just gave it a bit too much give.

I was initially unsure of these little stitchies on the front. I wasn't sure they would look offset. I thought they might just look like I couldn't sew straight so thanks to Muralimanohar whose comment made me think I was on the right track. This little offset thing could turn into a new obsession.

If you want to see the Rolls Royce of fabric containers get on over to Moogsmum- hers are great and I bet she didn't swear at them either.

I had a recent visitor to whom I quite excitedly explained these little buckets and my plan to reorganise the sewing room. Now, I did warn her before entering that the room may be a little untidy.............................. her reaction was more akin to, lets say, witnessing a nuclear explosion. Even after we left the room she couldn't stop talking about it - I didn't think it was that bad.

Note: This photo shows the tidiest part of the room: The actual workspace

So I have decided to deal with it !!! that's right , now you all know. I will not start a new project, in fact I will not blog again until I have done something about this room.

  1. I like the way the outline is a little offset.. but that might be because it reminds me of misprints.. as for workspace cleanliness I am glad I am not the only one who makes mess and has to have sparatic cleaning sessions to get working on other things!

  2. Oh Jodie - it's very neat! I'll see your sewing room and raise you one! Mine is a corner of the bedroom, much to hubby's chagrin (it's on his side of the bed!) Love the buckets by the way too.

  3. Your baskets look pretty darn perfect to me and I love your appliques and the gorgeous colours!!

Your sewing room looks perfectly normal to me. Some people have no idea :)

I hope the big clean up doesn't keep you away for too long!

  4. Jodie if you clean everything up you can never find it!
You have to have a mess to be creative and spot just the right pieces you need amongst the mess

it was nice knowing you... if I made a statement like you just did 'i will not blog until I sort out this room' I'd never be back...

  7. And here I sit in the chair surrounded by buckets containing crochet.

For some reason J has not lost the plot over that.

    YET!!!!

  8. Dude...I have a little path from the door to my sewing chair..and an 8 inch square of clear space next to my machine....that's about it. The piles AROUND my machines are equal in height to them. I would take a pic and post it on my blog, except I think my mom and IL's would self destruct! rofl (Funny thing, a fabric bucket is EXACTLY what I have been thinking of making, to hold my rolls of paper getting crushed in the corner!)

And the offset look still rocks. :p

  9. I don't think your workspace is that bad at all - you should see the state of mine when I get going!

  12. Having just done the "big clean up" I can highly recommend it as being very cathartic. Plus I found kits and books I will never use, so I sold them and now have an extra $65 in my bank account!

You will need to blog though. It will get too frustrating oterhwise ;-)

  15. Lovely buckets and I totally "get" the stitching. My sewing area looks like a bomb went off in it most of the time and once a month for about 24 hours it looks very organised!

  16. Those buckets are fabulous, and I love the offset stitching. It adds dimension - and that's not just because I'me viewing them from here in the UK.

That workspace looks absolutely 'normal' to me - I bet you know where absolutely everything is, don't you? Pay no attention to visitors who make comments about explosions.

Don't stay away too long! x

  19. Jodie, you mustn't go around making rash statements like "I won't blog til I'm tidy" it scares the hell out of the messy crafters like me! I think a tidy crafter is probably a very special and rare breed - I haven't met one yet!

    Come back to us soon!!!!

  21. I think the buckets are super cute - but you're right - that loose weave linen is a bugger to work with!

I am yet to meet a crafter who is neat and tidy ALL the time - my craft room is an embarrassing shambles, so don't feel too bad about that either!

Thanks so much for your emails and comments today - much love to you!

  28. You have no idea just how pleased I am to see that another persons sewing/crafting room looks like mine....vbg. Don't stress over the mess - it helps you to be creaive.....at least that's what I tell my family...roflmol.

  29. you are a disgrace....ha ha ha, only joking. But if you like I can send the irritatingly tidy Mr Monkey over to yours to have a tidy round? He's a bit of a slave driver though, and it will probably end it tears.

  30. The buckets look gorgeous. I love the applique and your colours. Sometimes the best things we make are the ones we had to work so hard on to get right. I tend to bleed on my work after stabbing myself with a needle. Always lots of swearing involved...

Your work room looks fine, you can still see the machine!

  31. Well if that's as bad as your 'boo boos' get, then I am DEFINITELY never showing any of mine. I love the way you have off-set your stitching. The buckets really are too cute. And I think the word for your workspace is 'organised chaos', which means if you clean it all up you won't be able to find a thing (trust me, I'm the Queen of organised chaos :P)

  32. Those are beautiful! The color, the offset lines and appliqué - just beautiful! They look perfect. If you had trouble with them, it certainly isn't noticeable now.

  33. Those little buckets are sooo cute! Good luck on your clean up -- I need to do mine too!

  34. I love your buckets! I like the applique and offset stitching, thats what caught my eye. Hey, and your sewing table looks like mine!

  35. These are gorgeous little buckets! I love the off-set sewing, really LOVE it! and at the moment, most of my house looks like your sewing room, I suggest we give it a name so it can be an official style movement, you know.. minimalism, brutalism.. crapeverywhereism...it could catch on, honest!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh dear.... I hope it doesn't take too long to clean your crafting space.... I love the fabric buckets even if they were a nightmare to create... LOL!!

  37. Hoe in, Jodie, you'll probably enjoy it in a perverse way. It's the mess-stress and the psyching yourself up to clean it which is actually worse. i just cleaned my house in the middle of the school holidays and I feel so much better. And i'm most definitely NOT a good housekeeper!

  38. What cute little baskets. Love them. I think you did a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The baskets are beautiful and the fabric is gorgeous. Definitely worth the perseverance. I would have given it up way before its completion. Well done!

  40. Didn't somebody famous say something about brilliant minds and messy spaces? If you know where everything is, don't worry about the mess.

  41. Oh Jodie,
    Don't stay away too long.
Your little buckets are darling and a good organiztion tool.. tuh boot.
Think about selling the little buckets in your Etsy shop, maybe even some chenille ones, yum!
