Recently I asked for a bit of constructive criticism about my little dollies. I wanted to get them perfect before the whole shop thingo.
Miss 16 pointed out that they have no feet. Check! I added feet. But you know the feet kinda made the legs look funny so I had to change the legs. That meant the legs had front seams instead of side seams.....hmmmm.
Master 13 mentioned the hands looked a bit like shoes - or the bottom bit of Italy - ok, new hands. Then I went for new arms, then I didn't like how they attached. I tried more arms. But I did like the hands.
My criticism was the heads - when taking photos of the boys a while ago I did kinda noticed they were a little pancakey flat in the head department.
So, about two weeks of drawing, sewing , turning, stuffing and discarding has followed.
On Friday all the components got put together and......
BLAH !!!
She looked like a wrestler on steroids! I had tweaked this pattern to the point of no return.
On Saturday I bought some delicious Doctor's flannel, On Sunday I went back to my original pattern (with new hands) .....and today I finished these.
Milly
and the twins.
The wool also means they are less pancake like in the head and guess what? I love them !!!
All that beating myself up for nothing ! What a boofhead I am.
Anyway, after such a great day I thought I should cheer someone else up so I'm giving away this little bag. (and you deserve it if you read through all that post )
A little wristlet that might make a nice makeup bag.
Just leave a comment and I'll be back tomorrow evening to draw a name at random.
hmmm, now to tweak those little clothes just a bit................
Hi Jodie,

ReplyDeleteAdorable dolls - they looks so cheerful. And I love the frillyness of the purse. Best wishes with the shop.
ReplyDeleteMilly and the twins are just lovely - but gosh, I do relate to your tweaking thing. I hesitate to lower the tone of your blog but the number of times I've put my finger up a monkey's bottom to pull out the stuffing again, or had to remake ears, etc. Still, I don't know about you, but it's better for it in the end.
ReplyDeleteLovely little bag! That's the wristlet, not you :-p x
Your new girls are lovely - but there was never anything wrong with the others!!! Can't wait to see the shop open! Lucy x
ReplyDeleteYour talent inspires me! Great job - but then I've loved all of your work.

ReplyDeleteYour dolls are so charming, they have such personality. I can almost imagine the twins to be my little girls, except, no, they're smiling at each other. Those couldn't be my daughters after all... :0)
ReplyDeleteADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteI love the new style dolls - they look great. I can't wait until your shop opens - any idea when that might be? The material for the wristlet is wonderful - what is it?
ReplyDeleteI really love your dolls. I want my daughter to have one. I could just see here walking around day after day holding your cute little dolls hand and dancing in the living room with one. How can we get our hands on them?????

i like the way you do the hair, and they have really sweet faces. i think with fabric dolls, the face is so important. and i agree about feet, yours most definitely suit having feet : )
ReplyDeleteIf she is called Milly, are the twins Molly and Mandy?
ReplyDeleteI must go get myslef one of those swish "haircuts" that your twins have.

ReplyDeleteI love the dolls--so cute! The wool definitely gives them a much fuller look. I love the detailing you do on their hair.
ReplyDeleteI love the bag as well--who doesn't love the combo of pink and green?!?
Your dolls are just gorgeous, Jodie. I made my first doll since secondary school last week, for my God - daugher. After reading about all the adventures your 'kids' have - I do wonder what my RJ is up to with her new Mummy! It's so nice to finnally sew for a girl - i have 3 boys. The bag is beautiful too. Siobhan.
ReplyDeleteI love these dolls and the boys, too. "Flaws" and all. I think my favorite is the stories you tell with them. So sweet.

Jodie, your dolls are COMPLETELY gorgeous! I adore them - great work, and great imagination.
ReplyDeleteI love your dolls! New and old, and I love your blog - just re-found it (looking forward to making a bag and button ring).
ReplyDeleteI will be waiting anxiously for your store. My little red headed boy needs a doll with personality - and a hat, as red-headed boys must wear hats in the sun (that's what I tell mine anyway, and so far it has worked.)
Love your dearling little people creations. The details and style are wonderful. Can't wait for your store. Little wristlet looks almost edible. Yum! Monkimom
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say thanks for posting so much real stuff. I have learned a lot from watching you as you have posted about your creations. Thanks for the glimps into the process. I also like how you went back and trusted yourself in the end. Your dolls really were quite marvelous to begin with! They look like real kids. I especially like the boy dolls. I have boys myself and love to see great boy dolls out there.
